Abuse of what?
This is a very large category and being non specific may well weaken the impact. I mean if someone is posting against abuse of animals and someone else is posing against abuse of women in third world countries and someone else is posting against abuse of women in general and then the third person post against abuse of children and the other guy posts against abuse of the justice system the effect is quite diluted.-
That's what I said a month or so ago, to no avail. You put it much better though with phrases like "weaken the impact" and "the effect is quite diluted." I'll still try to come up something on one of my blogs, but it won't feel like much of a mass action.
Nonetheless, there might be a golden lining in that a certain pattern of communicative action could emerge here. Diluted or not, if people get used to doing this, perhaps better targeting could be added into the equation.

I'm just saying it is not an effective tactic, and is virtually meaningless without an exact topic. We recently did a very specific campaign on the Jena Six. Many in the afrosphere as well as their supporters had been campaigning for the Jena Six for some time this campaign was very specific, developed by Black Perspective dot net. it was to call out the media and ask them to cover this case, to start covering real news and to start with the Jena Six. It worked. The smaller station picked p on the blogs and then yesterday sitting in a sports bar I watched as CNN did a rather full coverage on it flashing across the screen, a whole story repeated throughout the night.
Specifics work better. -
I like this idea. We often speak about "doing something" but how much of us really participate (beyond just keeping the thought in our heads) in taking a stance against an obvious injustice.
However, as Cooper mentioned, "it should be something specific" which everyone writing their own cause it might not get pass your servers.
With one cause and massive blogging about it, media will sniff it out like bones in the graveyard. It will generate a large interest. Having been the victime of child abuse, that is my area of interest. -
The question of whether "Abuse" as a cause is too broad a challenge has been raised a few times.
For newer members of blogcatalog and those who haven't been following our previous blogging for good challenges I'll explain how this latest campaign came about.
To a large extent these efforts where we recognize and encourage bloggers to unite and participate in social awareness campaigns has been an experiment.
After the first campaign, which was to raise money for a US based non profit members told us they would prefer topics that did not isolate the beneficiary to one country.
After the second campaign, members told us that they would like to have more input into the topic choice.
So, this time, we asked blogcatalog members to raise various issues and through discussion and it became the very broad topic of "abuse."
Really, I do not know if it is too broad or not. Once this campaign ends we will do what we have previously and learn from the results, adapt it, and continue to make the concept of blogger-driven social awareness campaigns even better.
In essence though, blogging against abuse, is about blogging for hope. It's about uniting us as bloggers against any abuse whether animal, political, child, spouse, environmental abuse.
I do believe though its important that we each ask the question, "even so this is a broad campaign, who will benefit from this campaign?" The answer you come up with may provide insight as to whether this type of campaign is worth the effort.
For me, if as a result of one blog an animal or a child is saved, because someone was inspired to act and protect that animal or child, then this campaign has been a success.
