Topics: blogcatalog
I have been mooching around Blogcatalog for a few days and must say I am impressed. I particularly like the discussion element, something that mybloglog does not do well.
Interaction is vital for any site these days. Plus the fact that mybloglog was bought by Yahoo lessened it in my eyes.
Although blogcatalog does not have the numbers yet, I think it it wont be long until it catches up.
Well done guys. Does everyone here have accounts at both sites.

Well, I get more traffic from MyBlogLog, but I like blog catalog much better. I think the discussion forum is a really nice touch.

You're right lyndoman. It's only a matter of time that BlogCatalog or and possibly another "social networking site for blog will take over the popularity of MyBlogLog.I don't use MyBlogLog though and I'm not really that eager to try it.
BlogCatalog is my first take on this so called social networking for bloggers. -
apples and oranges....I like them both. However, when I'm looking for quick blog stats, it's MBL; when I'm looking for interaction and excellent discussions, it's BC.
...and I heard it through the grapevine that some contest(s) should be in the BC mix, too, real soon. That will make this place BIGger, for sure! -
The discussion forum is without doubt the winner for BlogCatalog.
Mybloglog takes much longer to do anything in my opinion.-
Good point, what have we really seen from MBL since it launched? A twitter addon and a few other minor things.
Maybe they are paranoid about rushing out new untested features only to get blasted in the blogosphere over security and whatnot. I guess its easy to criticise without being fully armed with all the facts. -
MyBlogLog is about to release a number of new features... Im sure they will be very cool. Check out a post from Eric at

I had joined MBL before I join BC...and had to admit MBL does bring more traffic to my blog. Things that I love bout MBL are the stats counter and the widget...it let me know who been stalking my blog lately so I could the same for their blog
However the means of interaction btwn members are limited to just the post msg thing in MBL. And for that I love BC more...for this discussion board that we all could join and share our opinion.
And the community here in BC is very warm and responsive...I'm now officially hooked by BC. -
For me Blogcatalog has taken the baton and kinda run off with it.
I did a little review on Blogcatalog sometime back here www.yackyack.co.uk/2007/04/27/blogcatalog-broadening-the-discussion/
Particularly with regard to this very aspect of the software. It looks like its a big success in that people are using it and participating. The new widget feature kicks arse too, kudos to whover coded that little beaut, simple but very good..eek I'd better go and stick it on my blog at some point too
I still think MBL is great, its just that for now, Blogcatolog is doing it better. -
MBL brings me more visitors. I like the at-a-glance "admirers" feature. But, as active as the members are, there's a cobwebby feel to the place. For as long as I've been a member, the same member has been featured in the "Meet:" section of the Members tab. One gets a sense that the host has left the party and abandoned the guests.
BC looks sharper, fresher. There's no musty smell here. -
I think everyone knows how I feel ;). Don't forget today is the BlogCatalog Mass Buzz Experiment posting day > iwebis.com/2007/05/14/blogcatalog-mass-buzz-experiment-participant-list/

We're with the Blogcatalog posse for sure, just seems to be less corporate, easy to use and connect (thats the idea, right?) more on the like minded wavelength and the first genuine social site we've the pleasure of gracing. We've both on our blog but its 98% blogcatalog vs 2% whatever the other one is called...

I do enjoy both. I joined MyBlogLog first. I have more contacts and readers on there. However, I enjoy the discussions on here And not being limited to joining neighborhoods every day as I am on MyBlogLog.com
-
I seem to get more traffic from mybloglog, but it is mostly people not really interested in my topics and my interests, but merely interested in gaining rank and earning money.
This community has a better feel to it. Maybe it is because of the approval process. I like the way the tags work here and I can find other individuals of interests to me easier here. I do believe that as this place gets noticed more, it will become more popular and I will start getting more hits from here. -
I did comprehensive review a few days back. Check it out at: onlinepresence.blogsailor.com/2007/05/09/mybloglog-vs-blogcatalog-vs-bumpze...

I like both, beacause each of it has its plus (like discussed above). My number one feature here is also the Discussions, and every future feature that will give the bloggers community a feeling of being "home" which is very important if you sometimes run out of fresh ideas, want to keep up with others writings or are just bored and need a fresh kick to continue blogging. Keep up the good work and keep it as clean and simple as possible. I would prefer to pay a small fee like on mybloglog instead of watching the Adsense here inside which makes no sense as I believe that bloggers are a specific user groups that knows adsense very well and the chance that someone clicks should be low? what do you think?

Blog Catalog without a doubt and especially since MyBlogLog has started to change how many communities you can add and how many contacts you can make. I think the interaction and conversations here are superior in all ways. This is more of a community in some way - hard to define. Even though many of the members here are also 'there.' There is a sence of belonging.
Blog Catalog has helped promote my site with Alex far more than 'the other' and indeed the size has perhaps enabled it to be more 'personable' - a quality I hope it manages to maintain when the number get bigger.
I for one will sign up for a 12 month Top 5 package once I get my situation with Alex finished - alas another 6 weeks I gather, but it will be worth it just to say 'thank you' to BlogCatalog. ~ Rod -
Signed up with MyBlogLog first and it doesn't seem to have really been very beneficial to me, not really working it. Found Blog Catalog and it's been great! I like the layout, navigation and interaction here. It has just been better for me so far. As I am just starting out with blog social networking, I'm going to stick with what works the best and easiest for now!

BC - I use widgets from both, but I haven't even clicked on my profile in MBL in ages. Why? There's almost no way to meet people on MBL. I honestly don't know if they are giving me any traffic, of if I'm getting traffic from other saps that also have MBL accounts and give them the same amount of attention I give mine.
Blogcatalog wins from the forums, the networking abilities, the groups, and of course the beautiful women that post here.

MyBlogLog doesn't do well in many fields, and if you try to tell them that, they'll even insult your intelligence more. I deleted my MBL account today and replaced the widget with the BlogCatalog widget. I was not active in this community before, although I read a lot positive on authority blogs and I've been a member for a while. Things change.

This was my first foray into the social networking scene and I have to admit it spoiled me. I received friend notices right away. Although I wasn't quite sure what to make of this, I am now up to 183 friends.
I have hand selected most because they offer either an expanded view of my own specialty or a totally unique and fascinating glimpse into their own.
When I finally went to MBL the first 4 "fans", were offers from "ladies" wanting to get to know me better. I have come to be just as disillusioned with most of the other social networks since. The only time I travel beyond BC is usually for "shameless promotion" or because I ran into one of my BC friends on another site.
And I NEVER leave comments anywhere else...My Mom always said you shouldn't talk to strangers!
Your Friend at Blog Catalog,

I joined mybloglog before I joined Blogcatalog. But I still find that navigation in mybloglog a bit tough. Add to it, they have never updated my posts and the thumbnail of my blog. And you can't promote your blog much in mybloglog. But I loved one thing in mybloglog: you can change your username in it. blogcatalog does not allow that. So I am stuck up with my old username.
-
I registered for Mybloglog yesterday and I find it hard to navigate around, unlike the first day I joined Blogcatalog where it was simple to use and figure out. Not to mention the discussions here are interesting. I quit navigating MBL after 30 mins. Didn't even know where the discussions are, and I stopped bothering about it.
BlogCatalog definitely for my choice. Recommended it to some friends even!

If MyBlogLog were to get someone who can do some design and toss up a forum, they would take away most of the advantage BlogCatalog has. Why Yahoo hasn't done this is beyond me.
The widgets for each site could both use some rethinking. Knowing who last visited your site from each network is interesting, but doesn't really do anything. They are sort of like any number of widgets you can get for your site showing traffic, friends, Alex rank or the weather.
Both sites are rather self contained. You pick friends, join networks without every having to leave the system and actually visit other sites. That is the nice part of Entrecard and StumbleUpon. It would be nice if they could integrate more of that. -
well.. to be honest, im feeling confused with the MBL system now, its changed the layout and seems not user friendly anymore. The widget are cool but its payed with more longer loading. And the members there always spammed me with SEO and Make money online messages. From now on i will not focusing my social networking activities there. Here i can find "real blogger" community. I loved beeing here. Please forget about what i said above. Its changed.

We just started blogging and found BC - There is so much going on here, I don't have time to go register somewhere else. I spend my online time in BC discussions, which leads to reading and commenting on others blogs, and I spend the rest of the time researching and posting.
Even if I did have time... I wouldn't go anywhere else! -
If you want a fun blogging experience come here.
But If you want more traffic go to mybloglog.
failureblogger-16 year old blogger -
The date on this thread: 5/09/07
Lots of things have changed since then.
(1) I get more traffic from Blog Catalog than I do from mybloglog.
(2) BC also has this forum, groups and, superior account management and search tools.
(3) BC members have access to expertise through this forum. Here they can turn to other BC bloggers for help, advice and/or support.
But I don't really think it makes much sense to just take the black and white position in favor of this one or that one. And, it puzzles me that other people do. IMO the sensible blogger will be joining more than one social network.-
That's what I was wondering when this popped up again - do those who said that they get more traffic from MBL still see the same results or has it changed since Yahoo took over and BC really took off.
I get very, very little traffic from them and find their interface to be too complicated and focused on following rather than finding and interacting. At least I figured out how to keep it from automatically adding people to my follow list.

@DrowseyMonkey
I have stated my case for closing all threads that have seen no activity for a period of 30 days. The threads would still be visible and could still be referred to or linked to. Unfortunately, I was told that this cannot be done by software so it would require staff time to do. And, I think we would all agree that staff time could be better spent elsewhere. It seems necro-posting to resurrection threads will continue so keep your eyes peeled for the dates.
