I had blogger originally.
I prefer self hosted wordpress. I have a wordpress.com as well and prefer that over blogger. -
-
You can get a wordpress.com account for free and see what they have - play around with it. The wordpress.com blog which is my Darfur blog has.
delicious
flickr, meta, rss tag, cloud, akismet, blog stats, calendar, sonific songspot, meebo, category, pages, recent comment, top posts, box.net file sharing, platial map kits, top post, top click, and vod pod video widgets available as well as as many text widgets as you want.
The problem is there are certain type of javascript they do not allow .
Right now their my blog log function ability is broken and they are all at word camp so it won't be fixed till they get back.
There are a lot of themes available.
I think it is the way to go before doing the self hosting where you can then have total control over your themes, altering them yourself or designing your own and all script. There are hundreds of widgets available for self hosting just look in the wordpress plugin repository.
Blogger is much easier to hack which is what happened to me and why I left.Thank god for that I say.
You can try it and if you don't like it don't use it. -

I have both and for certain things Blogger is easier but then again WordPress isn't that bad either...
-
I actually find blogger much harder now when I go back. I believe it is a matter of getting used to one over the other. Blogger was easier when I used it, wordpress is easier now that I use it. You will find that some people who have had blogger for some time are just moer comfortable with it, same with wordpress. Wordpress has the advantage of letting you use the platform to self host.
Blogger gets hacked easier.
I don't t hink there is a right answer but wordpress to me is a cleaner system and looks better out of the box. -
I don't use either, but based on all the blogs I've seen WordPress would be better. I personally don't use either one, but I'm just telling you anyway.
Make sure to get your own domain though. -

I have no idea how. I only know they hacked my blog several times before I finally left. The template was replaced with the words - "get a better blogging platform, get wordpress".
I changed my password a couple times and it happened again. finally I quit and got a self hosted wordpress blog. -
Self hosted wordpress all the way!!

I have installed wordpress and many many plugins in multiple hosting accounts... so I swear by it
I LOVE WORDPRESS!!

Wordpress is great. You should also look at Joomla and Mambo for great plug ins. Word Press is by far the easiest to use and customize in my opinion. I use Joomla on a few sites and it has a bit more custom plug ins, but a bit more painful admin section.

the discussion seem to encourage me to shift to wordpress. But is it possible that I can transfer all my posts there in just few clicks?

i have 2 new sentiments posted..-
Wordpress now comes with a plugin that imports all your posts directly from blogger. You may have to do a bit of tweaking, but it's really minor work considering that you're saving yourself hours of work.
Like someone mentioned earlier, try their online version first and if you like it switch to self hosted, if not stay with blogger.

Go for both! Have the main blog in WP and do the secondary blog about the main one in Blogger - this way you'll get the most from both SEO.

i prefer blogger
and am doing the reverse of what kamazas said.. am having blogger as the main and wordpress as the secondary.. and to avoid repetation am juz adding snippets of the posts in wordpress(not doing tht for a couple of weeks though..!)
vish..!

I started off a few months ago using Blogger. I grabbed the first template which seems to wok fine. The template does not quite meet my needs as I would like columns on both sides of text. There are other templates available but I am leery of trying another one if it screws thinks up.
I have loaded Wordpress on my own domain and I am just learning the features and I have one duplicate article there.
Blogger sure was easy to set up and the their WYSIWYG template with the easy to use and setup column box works well.
In wordpress and I am just learning it does seem harder to figure out.

Nielsp,
Sidebars on both sides of text... are you speaking of something like mine? Check it out.

Thanks to this thread I've setup a wordpress account and have imported the posts from one of my blogs (so easy!) and I love the template choices...I'm having trouble adding the other blog to the same account - anyone know the trick? TIA...more questions please ;-) can you setup adsense in WP? or the same badges, etc. as in Blogger? By going to WP does that end the google adsense relationship? Danny

I am currently on blogger, but it is also the same reason why I am in the process of switching to a self-hosted wordpress now.
I am just a little pissed that I see too much http error codes and for some directories, the delay in showing up posts can go as far as 9 hours. -

Actually I think this problem is more of Youtube than blogger/WP. I have tried putting iMeen in my blogger and it works perfect. Tested it out on a friend's WP and it works too. Youtube is seemingly taking longer to load, that's all.
I am not sure if buy-overs of such services contribute to the problem. Look at Photobucket, same thing. Ever since the buy-over, it's uberly slow. That is also one of the reasons why I finally decide to have my own webhost, host all my own music compositions to pictures and videos.

Wordpress.com hosted Wordpress sites are free. You CAN spend money/credits for extra stuff like more features or more storage space.

I use my own installation of WP also. The only thing I don't like about WP is the complexity of upgrading to current versions. Also the plugin workings can be frustrating.
On the one hand it is great to have a platform that allows you do find a plugin and theme for almost anything that you want to do. On the other, it is frustrating that every time WP puts out a new version, many of the plugins and themes are broken by the WP changes. The authors of said plugins and themes are often too busy to keep their customizations up to date with the frequent WP releases. So for the end user, it becomes a huge problem. -

Wordpress because it's what I installed on my domain. I once tried the free version of blogger and didn't care much for it so I am biased to some extent.

I prefer blogger than wordpress
it is easy to customise layout design n widgets
plus.. its free to have adsense..
Vote for blogger

I have just started blogging and am currently using Blogger. I haven't had a problem with Blogger, once you learn how the blog is constructed. Once you learn that, you could pretty much do a lot with it.

I have found out about wordpress when reading other blogs that may or may not have anything to do with blogging. After checking out some of the features and other things that can be custom made, I will be sticking with Blogger because it is not very difficult to use for those who know as least the basic web editing processes.
Also, I did not get into blogging to get rich off of a Blog. Instead, I used my blog as a portal to provide information, humor and commentary on my own movie making process and that of others. If I wanted to get into all of the self hosting and server stuff, I would probably use wordpress since it would be a better choice business-wise. Since my goals do not include making a business out of one or several blogs, Blogger seems to be sufficient enough. -
Bromoluz,
Wordpress without a doubt.
When I started work for my current employer (a publishing company) they had four commercial blogs all through Blogger. We did not use the Blogspot hosting. Instead we published the blogs via FTP to our own servers. We were constantly having issues with Blogger publishing via FTP timing out as the blogs got bigger and bigger. One of our blogs - Library Stuff www.librarystuff.net - had so many posts and comments that updates would take forever.
We looked around at other and finally selected Wordpress. So far we have migrated the three busiest blogs over to our own Linux server with Wordpress. The blog authors have all been thrilled with the change. From an author's viewpoint Wordpress is just plain easier to deal with and more responsive. From an admin's point of view, Wordpress is infinitely more extensible and much easier to backup and maintain.
In Blogger's defense, once I changed publishing from FTP to SFTP (I tracked down an acceptable SFTP/SCP server for Windows), the publishing issues improved drastically. -
I'll vote for Blogger, but just because I use it more and it attracts more attention (read traffic), more quickly, with less effort. Creating new blogs is simple. And modifying the templates is a snack with just a little knowledge. I host on my own domain and that probably makes it both easier and harder, if I can put it that way!
I do have one WP installation and it's OK, works fine. Probably technically superior, too, I just don't find it matters that much for my purposes. I think as you scale up WP becomes much better though.. Blogger takes forever to update when you have tons of tags and files and what have you. I also use my own platform for both, and that helps reduce downtime and errors.
Agree also that whatever you use you get used to... and using both hasn't been a problem, I've just become used to both ;-)
