If a newbie suddenly happens to ask for your opinion in creating his “very first" blog, what would be a better option would you advise him? Blogger or Wordpress? Please try to cite some features, facts or criteria for comparison. Remember that there’s no definite correct answer for this so let’s respect each other’s preference alright? Thanks..

I've had both and I find blgger more user friendly. The only downside is that their default templates are kinda boring, but you can always upload one, or easily change the colours, etc.
I find where you write your posts on blogger much easier to use because the layout is larger, gives you a better view. I also find uploading widgets and stuff much easier with blogger. And I like that I can change the colours of my template very easily, I even used colours that weren't on the blogger colour chart, I just typed in the colour code from photoshop and it accepted them. I'm not even sure if you can change the colours of the wordpress templates. In the end I got very frustrated with wordpress and went back to blogger. -
I prefer Wordpress. That's mostly because I'm paying for hosting and own my own domain and so on, but really I find that Wordpress kills Blogger when it comes to customization (it's extremely easy to adjust templates, by the way...just have to take a look inside the style-sheets). While I do have a slight problem with its text editor, overall I love the Wordpress admin.
However, I do agree that Blogger is more friendly for the casual, well, blogger, and so that's what I'd recommend for a newbie. -
I have used blogger, wordpress and tumblr. My answer is that I would choose Wordpress over Blogger hands down. I can give you all kinds of reasons why but, first please read this post on the same subject which is also active on the forum at this time.
In the post at the link below you will find the differences between free hosted wordpress.com blogs and wordpress.org installs that can be used on your own domain.
A key factor is whether or not the would be blogger wants to have advetising. Advertising is not allowed of free hosted wordpress.com blogs. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/blogger-or-wordpress-4#comment_410076 -
I agree with those that answered Wordpress(Wordpress.org) here. Wordpress is super flexible, and have a lot more developers actively developing compatible applications.

There is no "paid" version of wordpress. Software from wordpress.org is open source freeware and the free blogs at wordpress.com are free hosted.

I am using wordpress and I have loving it till now.
I'm having this problem of posting new pages and have been seeking help
but to no avail. Anybody experiencing the same problem or have any solutions at all? I've even tried changing the template and all but it doesn't work..
I even thought of changing to some other blogs but I have my own domain and wordpress is the only option I like... =(
Is it just me or wordpress really has a bug that I just can't resolve? -
Wordpress all the way! I have seen good results with wordpress! Its easy to edit, create and find themes, it automatically pings your blog for almost instant search engine results and you can host it on your server or use wordpress.org/com\'s community. Its what most Internet marketers use.

I think for the free versions that Blogger beats out Wordpress hands down. The widgets are easier to use, they optimize very well especially on Google since they are a google product. I have yet to figure out how to do the hosted .org version of Wordpress. Those seem to b the very best looking blogs but are definately less user friendly for a newbie.

Wordpress. I've written a few articles through the years on this.
One main reason is the commenting platform, but there are lots of other reasons.

Understand that you should know why it's better to go Wordpress because it requires a bit of skooling and it can be frustrating. The payoff is enormous though. If you'd like help making the switch, I'll mentor for free, but no more than 3 people I am already helping some. -
Some bloggers start out on free hosted blog platforms like wordpress.com or blogspot (Blogger) on a test basis. They plan to establish traffic, purchase a domain and then to switch over to paid hosting. Well, listen up! The Technorati Authority and Rank as well as the Google PageRank belong to the sub-domain url for your blog. That means that if purchase a domain and move your blog on to it those will disappear unless you also purchase domain mapping.
There are many benefits to having your own domain and you will find them in this post, as well as, some how to instructions and tips for equipping your new domain with free wordpress software:
