Hi everyone, just want to know who among you here are blogger users and wordpress users. It seems to me that there has been a stiff competition between these Blogging software. I'm using self hosted Wordpress account and so far i'm happy with it...

Eventhough i m a blogger user , but i still recomment WP . But dude hold on , Blogger is about to Change completely in few months and then Wp will face the toughest competetion ever. Check blogger draft for blogging updates.
If u r a pro blogger - Use WP
If u r blogging for reasons anything except earning money , etc - Blogger-
Wordpress is open source free ware and Blogger is owned by Google. IMO those of us who support open source are not likely to give up superior software in order to cosy up to the Google corporation.
I started out with a blogspot blog and then made the switch for several reasons. There was no peer support to speak of at blogspot as there really is no actual community set-up there for it. However, at wordpress.org volunteer peer support is what everything is based on and at wordpress.com peer support is also available. In addition to that volunteer peer support at wordpress.com there is also staff support.
Wordpress.com has over 3 million free-hosted bloggers on their multi-user blogging platform and they are all part of a highly developed global categories and tag pages set-up. There are also featured Departments that are a means of blog promotion as well as the global categories and tag pages.
Automattic which is the corporation that owns wordpress.com also owns Gravatar and that support is currently being integrated. Mark my words when I say that free-hosted wordpress.com will soon become a very large social network that will attract many bloggers.

I like WP but there is something of a closed society about it.
Blogger hardly seem to do anything to promote your blog -
I like WP because it's free software (released under the GNU public license). It also gives you pretty good stats information.
-
-
That's the truth and it can be applied to many other situations too.
It's truly amazing how many people post this same topic the forum searchbox is full of threads like these popularity polls.
And as far as stiff competition goes ... lol ... wordpress is open source software and blogger is owned by Google.

I use wordpress but only on recommendation from one of my friends that has several blogs. I'm just now becoming aware of the self hosted wordpress and may transition to that soon...I'm not real sure yet of the pros and cons for both.

I think it's just personal preference. When I started blogging I opened a blog in both ... but very quickly found blogger easier to use & just more user friendly in general. So that's what I stuck with. Of course lots of other people will say the complete opposite. So ... it just depends.
-
Blogger provides no means whatsoever of promoting your blog posts. At wordpress.com the categories and tags I place on my posts immediately place them on the global categories and tags pages after I publish them. Most of my blogging tips posts get enough traffic to also palace them in the front page departments of wp.com, usually under the How to" section. The setup at wordpress.com delivers traffic. There is nothing at all like it at Blogger.
-
Yeah, but I don't like working in wordpress ... you know, behind the scenes. I find it realllly frustrating. And I also prefer the look of blogger blogs, altho I know lots of people are the opposite.
People often say blogger blogs look alike, but WP blogs look alike too. It just depends on what look you like ... if you know what I mean
I also hear people saying the WP is easy to personalize, but I didn't find that at all ... I found I was so frustrated ... but that probably has more to do with the way my brain is wired than anything. So I agree with the comment below ... I find WP more complicated. But mostly I found the layout where you type/update your posts to not be as user friendly as blogger.
I do agree with you regarding the promoting of blogs. Blogger is really lacking in that area. Their help centre is quite frustrating as well. But even with that ... I still prefer it.
It's all about personal preference, I guess. -
Having used WP for the BlogCatalog blog, I'd agree with Drowsey's assessment on that. Again, it's personal taste, but I do like Blogger and enjoy the lack of having to mess with the technical aspects of it.
It's allowed me to focus more on creating content-- and finding the fun in the blogging. And not worrying about making the blog work.
I've really enjoyed that.

Free-hosted wordpress.com blogs are not "complicated". Learning how to blog using one is easy provided that you actually take the time to read the well developed FAQs. If you still have questions afterward then my blog is the place for beginners to go to. Volunteers answering questions on the wp.com forum often direct bloggers to my blog because many volunteers learned their wp.com blogging from my blog posts and/or from the answers I gave on the forum.

I lossed my "blogger virginity" to wordpress.com . i had a blog on blogger later, and a couple other places. but i went home to wordpress eventually.
wordpress just feels really comfortable to me today. -
This is just to let everyone know that the OP of this thread has established a domain and is using wordpress.org software.
-
I've been using both. Blogger for my personal blog. WP for Indiepreneur.org . I think they're both fine platforms.
Blogger is a bit easier for me because I've been fiddling with it longer.
WP's dashboard confuses me sometimes. It's difficult to find the right widgets at the right time -- they don't seem to be in one place. Whereas blogger's gadget/widget dashboard/interface is much easier to use.-
If you've been using Blogger before WordPress, then WordPress can be VERY confusing, and especially for me, coming from TypePad. I've never tried self-hosted WordPress and probably never will, free wordpress.com with a domain mapped to it is more than enough for me.

squarespace.com does have it's advantages. I'd love to have my blogs there, but cost is holding me back, and the biggest cost is that you can only have one blog per account...compare that to wordpress.com: unlimited for free.

Wordpress is OK but I like blogger.com
-
I have lot of great things about WP, but I am using blogger and am comfortable with it.

I started out with blogger but recently switched to WP. It is much more work to get up and running at WP, but I'm finding it is well worth it. Besides, I like tweaking everything just so.

I used blogger in my first blog and it seems that everything id fine but I set up another blog in wordpress just to try it out and I found it very hard to set up unlike blogger. But right now I already learn to set up the wordpress and I got PR 3 instead. My blogger got a PR4 but in wordpress I got it in shorter time compare in blogger. Whats the difference anyway?
-
Here's the laydown.
Professional blogs (that cost money) = Wordpress.org
Casual blogs between wordpress.com and blogger (MANY of these end up looking like myspace regurgitations) = blogger
Web2.0 Blogging = Tumblr -
Hey I posted a review about a really kewl comments plug-in for you wordpress users.
It really puts some power in your comments, check it out I love it.

I use wordpress and blogger however wordpress is my choice.-
@rodwambold
Thanks for posting the link to the plugin that self hosted wordpress.org bloggers can use. As free hosted wordpress.com blogs do not have plugins I just wanted to clarify this to prevent confusion.

I know why Automatic won't change the name of Wordpress.com. But why do they not change the name of wordpress.org to stop the confusion?
Anybody who is going to use the package is going to know how to find it.

The wordpress.org open source community, which is not a corporation came first. Matt and Mike Little were co-founders of the woordpress.com project, a fork from the wordpress.org software on a multiuser wordpressMU platform and turned the wordpress.com project over to his corporation Automattic Inc. WordPress development is led by Ryan Boren and Matt Mullenweg. Now, if you take a moment to think about "branding" and how important that "wordpress" word is in terms of both branding and in terms of SEO, I think you will have your answer as to why.

I have 2 on each, I chose the wordpress platform for the professional stuff as I liked the features a bit more as well as the personalization, plug ins etc.
For the random rant or specialty blogs, I chose blogger because of the thousands more layouts that fit those blogs. Want a pin up blog? seach pin up? Spongebob? same deal.
All in all though I prefer wordpress because you can make it exactly what you want -
I use the Blogger software but self-host, which means that many of the newer features are unavailable to me. Oh, and little tweaks that would be automatic hosting on Blogger's website I have to edit manually with workarounds.
My next Blog is going to use WordPress, but also self-hosted.
If you're going for free hosting, why not try them both out and see what better suits you. -
This is THE TOPIC for me now as a professional blogger and internet publicist. I look forward to reading what's been written here. I have blogs on both Blogger and WordPress. I've resesarched a few comparative posts comparing blog hosts (services). See my recent (september 2008) posts on Bloglogalog.blogspot.com.
Blogger has so much ease for widgits! But as far as I can tell Wordpress is the host for all kinds of professional bloggers. The intuitive learning curve on Wordpress is harder, but there is GOOOOOOD customer support by email. Blogger is WAY easier to come up to speed on, with great connectivity through widgets and feeds, and NO customer support from GOOGLE, that I know of.
BUT I LOVE the static pages on wordpress that allow a person to have a free web/blog site. Check out this beautiful site as an example awiderintelligence.com. Hosted for free on wordpress... BUT with a $10/year fee for the custom domain mapping.

It's nice to have all these things being discussed openly.
Since we talk about numbers here i decided to create a poll out of this topic. i am calling all our bloggers, wordpress and users of movabletype, typepad livejournal and other blog platforms to participate in this voting poll. Collaborate and see what others think.

What matters is content. Period. It's not true that "all blogger blogs look the same," as some people are saying. It looks like a FEW wordpress users are like the Mac users -- they can't accept that people just happen to like different things.
Again, though, it's content that matters. I've seen some really nice looking blogs from Blogger and Wordpress that have nothing on them but blogging information and content from other blogs (videos, etc.), so it seems that all that matters to those particular users is how their blog looks, NOT what is on it. How boring. -
I started out on blogger 3 or 4 years ago and recently tried WP. I found I was frustrated easier with WP and I didn't like that you can't use adverts there. I didn't get as far as looking up themes for WP, but for blogger, I found quite a few I liked.
However! I am noticing an annoying trend. Although I like the theme I chose, lately I've been distracted by it and I wonder if that's a good or bad thing for people coming for content. I've changed things around (and still am) all the time and I can't settle.
My non-political blog is a plain white background with a header made by me, and I like it fine. It's very simple, but the content is all you see.
What drew me to try WP was 1) the pages and 2) it felt more professional. I still like the pages option but I felt very confined in WP, possibly because I just didn't want to fiddle with the formatting.
I've still got the blog there with no content on it, so I can play around and get used to how it all works. In the end though, if I choose a less distracting theme, both blogger and WP offer plain templates and then it's a matter of social networking. WP seems to have the edge there as far as I can tell. I stick with blogger because it's comfortable and familiar, at least for me.
Good luck! -
With a lot of [b]Open Source Blogging Softwares available in the market today it's a bit confusing for newbies to decide which blogging platform to use. By creating this poll and casting our votes altogether, we share our participation by informing them the great good news about the mainstream in blogging.
This ongoing debate among the best blogging softwares would never end. But as we see the trend in the coming months and years to come, this survey would visually serve it's purpose.
Tell us what you think.

I use both blogger and self hosted wordpress. Both are easy to use, however wordpress outshines blogger for all the extra things that it allows me to do without having to know programming.

@pilotcommand
Is it possible that the reason you are activating these 3 threads and dropping your links to your forum into them is to shamelessly promote your forum? If so, then is this the correct approach to take? After all, you could simply post one Shameless Blog Promotion thread and promote your new forum in it. -

The top 5 reasons I love designing wordpress blogs from a web-designers perspective
1. You can customize the wp front end with endless options.
2. If you know how to use dreamweaver or front page or know some html you can add custom navigation rollover buttons to a wordpress blog.
3.There are plugins that allow you to add flash to blog page.
4. There is also a plugin called wp cart that lets you add a shopping cart to your word press page.
5. You can customize your login page with your company logo (great if you are creating a blog for a client).
Below are a few blogs I have created using the wordpress platform.
my personal blog- www.thegnrgroup.com/blog

season of "THE CONTENDER" thegnrgroup.com/realestate (it's still a work in progress)

Wordpress....I get thousands of hits a day from the Wordpress search. When I used blogspot I didn't feel blogspot did anything to advertise my blog.
-
@MountainSage
IMO you have introduced an important point. My blog at wordpress[dot]com recieves a significant traffic flow via the wordpress[dot]com global category and tag page searches.
Automattic has purchased gravatars and intense debate. buddypress is also unfolding and when all the pieces are in place wp[dot]com will be a huge (over 3 million members) social network in its own right.
In addition, there is no "geeky" stuff to worry about as wp.com staff does it all. When things go wrong their staff support which is backed up by volunteer forum support provided by members, is prompt and excellent.
BTW this has been discussed many times before and there is no new information in this thread which apparently was reactivated by a blogger who is using it to promote a new forum. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/search.php?q=blogger+wordpress

I used Blogger and preferred it over Wordpress.com. If you're using your domain name, making money and want premium templates, I recommend Wordpress.org. I prefer Blogger solely for blogging for the heck of it and Wordpress for blogging for $$.
-
I use blogger but i say wordpress is better because of the looks and feel and most important is the numerous themes present for wordpress... blogger struggles in some aspects... but wordpress is limited for tweaking purpose so i chose blogger, and the wordpress upload to some folder idea doesn't suit for me..

Figure out here: lolkontol.wordpress.com/2009/10/27/wordpress-vs-blogspot/
that should suffice, to say the least.
