  2. bnsullivan
I'm a research psychologist and a "consulting statistician." (That means I crunch other researchers' numbers and tell them what it means.)

Yah think? Actually, I'm trying to retire so that I can write full time (blogging and otherwise).
    3. melindaville
I'm a psychologist as well--and love stats. I teach psychology and research methods classes online, which is great because I can work from home in my jammies while not having to deal with the departmental politics and drama.
    4. ptitpraince
hey, i'm a psychologist too. But i am not "researching" anything. I'm a clinical psychologist.

  37. MadameX
What great timing for this question! I just got clearance this week to finally talk about what I do for a living. tiffanytalks.blogspot.com/2008/08/just-in-case-you-were-wondering.html
    1. kristilinauer
So you're directly involved in actually developing the program? On another note, I'm quite shocked that one can receive a law degree online!
    2. Anniepooh
That's awesome! It's so nice to be able to put your education and abilities to work even if it's not what you started out heading toward.
    3. MadameX
Kristi, I'm sorry--I didn't see this question the first time around. Yes, I was actually one of the first people hired when this new division was created because (of all silly things to be an expert in) I have an extensive background in the creation and analysis of multiple choice questions. Well, and a law degree and editorial management experience, but it seems that those things are easier to come by than expertise in multiple choice questions.

Thanks, Annie. That's exactly how I feel. It's a great program, it's challenging/interesting work, and I'm making good money working from home (which means my daughter and her friends can hang out at my house during the day). And about once every six weeks I spend a few days in Manhattan, which is just enough to be fun and energizing and connect me to the core group without taking a toll on my family.
    4. Anok
How....how does one become an expert in multiple choice questions?

Just, you know, sounds like a good niche
    5. MadameX
Mostly practice, Anok. My primary expertise is in the LSAT, which I've been working with for eleven years--I've taken and dissected every released LSAT from 1991 forward, researched, tested techniques, classified wrong answer choices, written explanations, and worked with hundreds of students and trained other teachers and writers to do the same. I also have some experience with the ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, portions of the MCAT and DAT, and the MBE.

  43. acousticguitarist
I teach web development, and at the moment Diploma in Systems administration,Diploma in Communications. I specialise in Flash and actionscript. I eased up from playing live in the late 90's when my oldest son died because I felt too vulnerable to perform because music is a very emotional experience for me. When I started to blog about guitars I did a post about an instrumental song I wrote dedicted to my son

    acousticguitarist.wordpress.com/2007/09/27/the-bardo-dedicated-to-joshua/
,this was a major step to reentering into playing music, which for me is a passion beyond belief. Sooner or later I will be back playing on a regular basis. About 5 weeks ago I sang again in public and managed to do it without too much difficulty.
    1. bloggernoob

    2. PetLvr
In Canada, it would be more of a CGA or CA designation, none of which I have. I did work in public practice between 1985-2003 however before venturing out on my own. Honestly, I prefer a calculator - even the computer on screen calculator than crunching numbers Although, I always was the teacher's pet in math class during school.

I LOVE psychology, though and love teaching the subject. I think most of us are interested in understanding why each of us does the things we do.

I enjoy being a music arranger, but not many musicians come for my help here. If they do, they come with zero budget. So I never really make money from doing it. What makes money to me is when I take out a guitar and sing. But I don't enjoy performing. Sigh...

as a full time blogger and blog manager my daytime job is napper since I do most of my blogging between 2am and 7am and again from 8pm until around midnight.
    1. bloggernoob
full time blogger? when did you start blogging? and when did you decide on being a blogger fulltime?
    2. bradhart
I blogged pretty much full time from 2001 through 2004, but quit to do other writing jobs. I came back to blogging part time in early 2007 and started my network shortly there after. I have been running that full time since last December. It is more blog managing than anything (which includes editing, rewriting, and often times ghost writing for member blogs) , I don't get much done in the way of actual in my pet projects much these days.

The difference between managing blogs and simply writing, is I can pretty much guarantee a full time income, something most full time bloggers can't do on their own.

      its my passion!
    3. bloggernoob
that's awesome. im sure that not a lot of people work at something they are passionate about.
    4. ChanelleC
Yes, I too believe not a lot of people work at something they are passionate about, which in many cases, causes them to not advance in their career. While we all need to pay the bills and sometimes a "no brain, I'd rather kill myself than work here" type of job will pay the bills, it's extremely important, let me emphasis, IMPORTANT, to find something you are passionate about and work towards achieving your goals. Perhaps some people just haven't found their passion...I was fortunate to do so early on and have been trying to help others find that passion and make their dreams a reality every since.

Actually I'd like to open a religious bookstore catering to all religions, but I'd go for a new age/occult bookstore if I had to narrow my aspirations.
    3. bloggernoob
that's cool. There was a new age book store next to the bestbuy that i go to here in chicago. i think it closed down a few months ago. it was too big in my opinion. If you keep overhead down, i think it can do ok when the economy picks back up.
