Today is the day! If you are participating in Bloggers Unite for Human Rights please post the link to your entry and what it's about here as well as in the Bloggers Unite group at:
www.blogcatalog.com/group/bloggers-unite/discuss/entry/list-your-bloggers-u...

"While the words might change from country to country and are sometimes taken for granted, human rights represent one of the universally agreed upon ideas — that all people are born with basic rights and freedoms that include life, liberty, and justice. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations.

Bloggers Unite For Human Rights challenges bloggers everywhere to help elevate human rights by drawing attention to the challenges and successes of human rights issues on May 15. What those topics may include — the wrongful imprisonment of journalists covering assemblies, governments that ignore the plight of citizens, and censorship of the Internet. What is important is that on one day, thousands of bloggers unite and share their unified support of human rights everywhere."

Again, I forgot to put my Human Rights topic (senior moment). It is: The basic human right to Clean Drinking Water - Nards
    1. Shiley
Proof Positivity is about World Slavery.

My Thoughts is about child abuse.
    2. clioandme
The second post on child abuse has got to be the toughest read I've encountered in a long while. It is worthwhile.
  1. thegoodknife
    Great stuff so far.

Make sure and let us know what your entries are about in your comment. this thread is going to get pretty long and some people will likely just be searching for certain topics.
    1. Norski
      Good point.

      Here's to a long thread!
  2. Anok
Oh crap I've posted it all over the place now. I shouldn't be allowed near a computer until I've had my second cuppa joe. Oh, mine is short and sweet, general human rights, nothing specific.

I know!! You're all thinking short? Hahahah!

Another thread? Well, since it's sticky and official, I'll post again:

"Human Rights in the History Survey" (How I taught the issue in my Western Civ courses this spring)
    clioandme.wordpress.com/2008/05/15/human-rights-in-the-history-survey/

"The Responsibility to Protect" (Maybe the world community should help Burma even against its government's will.)

    1. thegoodknife
thanks for posting your link again mark. we had one too many unofficial threads so i thought i would start an official one.
    2. Norski
      thegoodknife,

And thanks for an official one! I'm linking to this thread from my post, now.
  4. Norski
With so many issues to choose from, I had a hard time picking one. So, I didn't.

    apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2008/05/youve-probably-heard-darfur-is-mess-a...

"You've Probably Heard: Darfur is a Mess, and Journalists are Getting Killed"

"The two social causes are 'Darfur' and the regrettable tendency of journalists to become dead in some parts of the world. Both are, in the Lemming's mind, serious situations.

"Finally, the Lemming doesn't have a solution for either social cause. But, he does believe that knowledge is power .... "
    1. Norski
      Looks like it's about:
      * Ensure humanitarian aid for Cyclone Nargis victims
      * Human Right Watch
      * Peacekeepers and Aid for the People of Darfur
      * Please Support the Global Online Freedom Act, H.R. 275
      * Stop Human Trafficking in Montenegro
      * Support House resolution to secure the Darfur conflict region
      * US: Ban Cluster Munitions by 2008
      * US: Urge Congress to pass the Child Soldier Prevention Act
Interesting collection - and display - of photos. (Curious - where did they come from?)
    2. AmyOops
Cooked brains. I have it on there, and it also links to his for the photos.
    3. Norski
You're the second person today to tell me that they use links to cite sources for photos.

      There's merit in the technique.

      Thanks.
    1. Shiley
I just gave you a kudo.

Jamyang Kyi is well-known as a performer of pop and traditional songs and for her blog. She is a respected intellectual and blogger who has written about women’s rights and the trafficking of girls. She has traveled extensively, including a 2006 trip to the United States to perform and lecture.

She was escorted from her office on April 1 by plainclothes police officers in the city of Xining, according to colleagues and friends. The authorities also confiscated her computer and a list of contacts. There has been no official confirmation of the detention.

timethief: I would love to Digg your post, but I can't find the digg button. Is it there and I just don't see it?

To all: I have dugg if you have a button, I've tried to leave comments on all, but I can't stumble. Sorry. My new computer went belly up and apparently I can't download the toolbar on this old one that I'm using in the mean time. Yuk!

Anyway, I will be gone for a little while and just wanted to say great job on all I've read so far.
    2. timethief
      @mommatalks
Acckk! I forgot the social network icons. I'll put them at the end ot the post right now.

It's probably just me, but I can't get to the bottom of your post to comment. Sometimes I'm a bit challenged. Anyway I will keep trying. I remember seeing a movie about the story you are talking about and I'm very interested in seeing the rest of your post.
    1. mommatalks
Oops. The article is about Darfur and includes links to ways you can help that won't cost you anything, but a few moments.

I'm not sure if mine is very conventional, and certainly nothing new, but I figured the more people who wrote about it and joined in the cause would be better than not writing at all...
    1. stilesjp
Sorry, mine is a mish-mash of... how it's sad that tragedy is the only thing that seems to bring the world together, and how as the world grows smaller, world wide destruction seems to be more prominent than world wide help.

Human Rights, I wonder what the school teaches and what the nation preach. The school holds the key to the future of the nation, and One thing lead to the other thing, the chain reaction has no end. You eat me, I eat you, what kind of world are we living in?

Even as a child, they have their own rights, are their voice being heard?

I have stumbled and reviewed every one of these except one. Now I'm off to eat.

One that I find particularly appropriate is about free speech, which major western technology companies are guilty of suppressing in China and other countries: imby.wordpress.com/2008/05/15/free-speech/

As I said, there's loads more there, some of it by people I recognize from these forums, much of it not.

yeah i did a tribute for some old growth forest that isn't there no more...Alot of animals and forest was lost in Goolengook Vic Australia...The way it effected me and human rights is the area that was destroyed was Aboriginal sacred land and also the river that was bulldozed into was World Heritage.
This was all because of a one evil corporation, Norths Ltd...Its sad to think these sort of illegal operations are still happening in the world...

It was great to be able to participate in this. I came home for lunch to write my post since I knew I would not be home until late that evening. It was our high school graduation ceremony. It was very encouraging to listen to the speakers. We had some of the alumni speak and it is always great to hear what they are doing. One young man wants to retire by age 23!! He is well on his way with 3 of his own businesses now, including car washes and a custom car body shop.

He did not listen to people who told him "No". That is what it takes for change is to move beyond the "Nos" in life. I believe this applies to human rights, too. We must get beyond shutting our eyes to injustice, and things that are not right, and find a way to help those who are less fortunate. Remember the "random acts of kindness"? It can start that easily. Oops guess this could have been a post. Sorry for the ramble.
  46. faisalimranlone1
Human Rights i think is main issue in our world because some people and countries have to suffer or forgive rights which they have to be given due to some political, regional, some more others basis, Like war of Iraq and the condition of Afganistan's people become more critical and thinkable for every human beings. I think if one human suffer in our world its mean we all suffer along with them because it is the virtual relationship among all the people which Respected God have made in the beginning of the world

While looking through this list, it dawned on me that not one of the presidential candidates, or even their campaign staff, actually bothered to participate in "Bloggers Unite For Human Rights" by submitting their blog...guess they were too busy campaigning and all.

I would like to ask my fellow Blogcat members if they have any suggestions on what we can do next to further this case. One thing I am thinking about is to somehow pick the ten best blogs, or the ten that most examplify the criteria of the posed question "Bloggers Unite For Human Rights" and then the whole Blogcat membership pick the best and the runner-up blog and then we can donate some money to the winners. I'm game for $10.00 in support of Humane Rights. How about you?

It's just a suggestion and perhaps we can get a re-mention on CNN on this effort, send the winner to the UN, or at least Amnesty International and ask them to post it on their website.

    ex animo
