I am not going to lie if I told you I didn't start blogging because I thought it would be a profitable side project. I enjoy writing on my free time but I am so frustrated I haven't seen very much return (only about $150 in 3 months). I was under the impression that blogging can be quite profitable... it seems like it really is impossible though.

Any other bloggers out there going through this? Can those of you who've passed this hurdle offer any advice?

Thanks guys.

$150 in 3 months is more than most make.
    1. DollinNYC
hey Men101! are you Amanda Lepore?
  4. jflower36
Collegewarrior that is not a bad amount for the first 3 months. Go to problogger.net Darren makes a 6 figure income and he said that it took a year to really get off the ground. Exercise some patience.
    1. thecollegewarrior
why does it take a year? is it because search engines take time to update the popularity of a blog?
    2. EntrepreneurNovice
You are very lucky to get already PR 2 and 150$ after only 3 months, so it's a pity that you can't sustain longer than that for it takes months and months to get traffic and earnings

You do better than 90% of novice bloggers and you don't even know it !
    1. EntrepreneurNovice
You cannot hard sell well on the internet: if you have no content to pre-sell, you won't incite people to buy anything.
  5. Men101
Sweet Doll I am a genuine female;)
    1. DollinNYC
      So is Amanda!
  6. kat822
so are some others but the question is men101 are you a supermodel?
    1. DollinNYC
I know what this is leading up to and Lisa would not approve!
    2. kat822
      what???????????? lol
  7. fruitcake
Perhaps if you weren't getting plastered all the time, you could actually write something people will want to read.
    1. melindaville
An excellent point! Or making up stupid posts about bodily functions no one gives an eff about!
  8. kat822
oh and don't forget shagging even more plastered bar ho's lol
    1. larrybrains
It's club rats, jeeeeeeeeeeeze, get it right!

come on giveem some slack fruit cake he's a kid, a college kid at that that's what they do
    1. fruitcake
Didn't your mom ever tell you that just because "so and so jumps off a bridge doesn't mean you have to"...

And how do you know he's really a kid?
  10. kat822
well I didn't ask for his id, I am just assuming he is a college kid like he says in his blog, he really is harmless, and as far as him acting like a kid, I am thinking he isn't behaving much differently than other young men in college
    1. jflower36
      yeah true....that's a SCARY thought
    2. fruitcake
Sad, but true. I do know some college guys that do have it together...I wish that were the trend instead.

    @Doll Girlfriend I know.
    @Kat ROFLMAO
@Collegewarrior My Daahling boy Crpitt got it right you are doing it all wrong. For eg when you leave me this message: "you can add me on your blog" I just won't.

Spend a little more time here, look at the other messages, read the rules, learn how people relate to each other and you'll probably get it right.
    1. larrybrains
      Isn't Crpitt a female?
    2. crpitt
Gosh I hope so, I think she meant the daahling boy@collegestuckinbasementreallywarrior
    3. Agit8r
      yeah... female roommate = MOM

I don't make any money. And I have no intention of making any money off my blog, ever. I do it for a combination of simple enjoyment and opportunity to intellectual leadership. And I know it will take time, assuming I'm even good enough. But it's worth it. Now quit your complaining, nothing comes fast or easy on this earth. And it's not like blogging is that difficult of a job anyways.
    1. crpitt
Nice answer, I am betting that certain folks (not pointing fingers, but I totally mean college warrior and other spambots)will never invest the time and brain power into writing/creating a decent blog.
    2. Agit8r
I feel obliged to point out the "abolition" was promoted by the William Jennings Bryan crowd (Populists)

...and "Let us reason together" is from Isaiah 1:18
    3. jeremyjanson
Agit8r, like all political philosophies, Populism changes with the conditions of society and previous failures. Hence why conservatives don't (generally) still support protectionism, something they supported in WJB's era, although there are still (sadly) exceptions.

And I understand your point about the bible quote, but even the quotes people use tell you something about them.

blogging isn't the scam, "get rich quick with blogging" is the scam and people seem to fall for it all the time. You gave it a try and you earned a little dosh, and you might earn a bit more, but don't get your hopes up too much.
    1. EntrepreneurNovice
You can but not by doing it like 99% of bloggers

Within 2 years from now I'm going to target 1000$ per month. Once I will do that it's just simple arithmetic to duplicate.
    2. Agit8r
you have to become a commercial marketing machine... there's dime-a-dozen jobs out there that you can be successful at by selling your soul
    3. EntrepreneurNovice
It's like stock market a very few can make it that doesn't mean you can't try to belong to the few. For example this guy has made an unsuspected breakthrough with adsense: he built a free dating site and within less than 5 years was capable of generating so much traffic that his adsense check is about 900000 canadian $ (yeah not a mistake : nearly one million dollar ) every 2 months. His single employee is his own wife and his windows servers reside in his house

As for me I will "just" try to target 1% of his gain
  14. wonderwilm
If it were easy everyone would be doing it ! Wait everyone is doing it.

$150 is pretty darn good - $150 more than I've made. Probably I suck.

Its exactly what I expected everyone going in circles commenting on each others blogs. Its the Blogosphere
  15. EntrepreneurNovice
Remember the Pareto Law: 80% of adsense revenue is made by 20% of people.
  16. WillIAm2009
Can i have the $150 then?
  17. Aldereteca
Yeah, there are a billion bloggers out there, and the only people making any real money are the advertisers who whore us to their wicked needs. I feel dirty. 150 bucks is pretty sweet though.
  18. Floormodel
I think college warrior needs a hug. Someone step up and take one for the team please. I would but I just ate.
    1. Epicharis
      hahaha!
  19. buyersweb
lol -- all the comments here are great..! If you want to earn more from your blog you need more back links.. Its all about two main elements, lots of good links to you and good niche content..
  20. greencurmudgeon
This is all rather like a line from a Dire Straights song, "Money for nothing and chicks for free".

Life isn't like that. If university hasn't taught you that, then the school of hard knocks surely will.
