National leaders will come together with those from the country's largest medical center in Houston on Nov 13-14 (Two months to the day after Hurricane Ike, and eight days after the Presidential election... will it be decided by then?! Surely!) at Minute Maid Park, Downtown. Speakers like Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, 17th Surgeon General of the United States (2002-2006) and president of the non-profit Canyon Ranch Institute.

Only 19 Days Until the 2008 Wellness Symposium.
The Houston Wellness Association's 2008 Wellness Symposium promises to be the most unique two-day healthcare event of its kind in the country. Never before has a Symposium brought so many diverse leaders from the Private, Public, Not-For-Profit, Medical and Academic sectors together with the simple purpose of Translating Knowledge into Collaborative Action to enhance the health of the residents of our community. The Symposium will take place November 13th and 14th at Minute Maid Park/Union Station in Houston, Texas. The Symposium will have two distinct days of programming:
Day 1: Obesity Summit focusing on the impact of obesity from a multitude of perspectives, including personal, economic, and environmental levels.
Day 2: Worksite Wellness Conference reviewing the latest information on improving employee health to increase productivity and profits.
Individuals who would be interested in this event would include anyone who:
Provides medical treatment for obesity in children and/or adults
Provides stress management or family counseling
Manages a business in which obesity impacts performance
Runs a not-for-profit or for-profit program focused on obesity and wellness
Provides nutrition counseling for weight loss and weight management
Provides physical or occupational therapy
Is a human resources manager
Is an exercise specialist
Has obese children in a classroom
Conducts research in the areas of wellness and obesity
Is a community leader
Oversees a school district or a university
Is the CEO or CFO of a large or small business
Provides funding for obesity and wellness programs
Develops or invests in treatments for obesity
Manages private or public fitness programs -
