Topics: blogrush, garbage, traffic exchange sites
I know there are other threads on here about it. But a few of them have referral links which I thought we weren't supposed to do on here. So I wanted to start a clean one without them.
Traffic exchange sites like this, blog explosion, and other things that provide headlines are usually such a piss poor traffic source. I signed up for it though just to prove that I am right. And I am willing to bet that in a weeks period of time I don't get 100 page views from it.
Should we start a pool for fun?

My traffic has been going pretty well so I would imagine my headlines would be on there a lot. But I never click on things like that... So I think we should all take a guess on how much traffic I get... I am going to go with 44 page views.
-
it bothers me that people are making outrageous claims of increasing traffic with this tool when they haven't been a member long enough to even check google analytics!
I give 7 reasons why I wont be using it on my blog, RobSellen makes a good point when he says John Reese will benefit the most -
It might get a few hits, Kevin, but I'd be more concerned about giving up space on my own blog for links to blogs I know nothing about. One user says I can filter out blogs I don't like, but who has time to keep up with that?
Also, another user made an interesting point that could support your prediction: the widget will become such a commonplace that it will merge with the background noise on blogs that we already ignore. -
Someone on a different forum made another interesting observation. The way the layers are set up to include credit for referrals, this has a "pyramidish" whiff to it. Not that it is illegal or anything, but I wonder how sustainable the model will be for people further down the food chain.
-
Why I am gonna test it for a week or two...see what happens. ;o)

Here's the latest schmuk to sign up for it. It's still in Beta mode and as Beta testers, let's just see what transpires.
Most of you would appear to have joined very recently, perhaps we should give it a period of at least 30 days before we crash and burn it? -
I installed it, but I'm not expecting much from it either.
And since coming to the understanding that the good traffic comes from places where you've been pre-sold a bit, I don't expect much from the traffic that does arrive, but hey, you gots ta try it right?
What really struck me was the number of reviews of it out there that seemed to have been written before the thing was even available. And the number of reviews already making promises of the "best new traffic source" when there is just no way to know this yet one way or another. -
-
Ive just installed it but Im not sure how good it's going to be. i think it will draw traffic sometimes and other times it will do nothing.

Maybe I am making a rush to judgment, I just got an e-mail from someone that wants to feature my blog on their page and ask me a few questions about it. They said they found me via blog rush.... so wow I at least got one hit off of it.
-
wow this is very interesting - I created a post about it about how a smaller blog will not be able to get 100 views - since it really benefits the bigger guys
www.ianfernando.com/2007/blogrush-did-not-think-about-the-little-guys/
and I am yet to see my stats! is anyone seeing stats? -
-
I have installed it and I have also used it to find new bloggers. I have had TWO new readers link from it (okay it is only day two, but...more than came from BlogCatalog, cough, cough). Andy Beard's post today was spot on I thought...
andybeard.eu/2007/09/blogrush-7-critical-mistakes.html -
Nope...sorry cardio girl...I have not sent a note back to you yet. The idea behind the article is I wanted to let my reader know about it because I have a lot of "niche" readers who may not be aware of the widget. And, if they sign up using my widget as a link, it does allow my blog posts to have more exposure. From what I understand. Writing an article is NOT a requirement.

My dashboard is working as well...here is what is says under "my stats:

Im curious about these numbers. Getting credits is easy. You get a credit each time your page is viewed. Calculating the credits is easy to. So then whats the big deal of a balance of credits for number of page views on your blog? Isn't the increase in traffic to your blog more relevant?
-
i don't mind displaying my stats everyday if you are interested...I have about 150-200 unique visitors/day...ususally 250-500 page views
-
oh, stoneman...i have only had blogrush installed for less than 72 hours. the e-mail from them yesterday said they were still working out some kinks. according to my stat counter...I have had three clicks to my blog today. again, more than came from blogcatalog. But, I still get more traffic from stumble than any other referral source.
-
Generally I shy away from hype, especially when everyone in creation starts getting involved. Personally I tend to like my individuality, and if that means I won't be able to benefit from the 3 extra visitors Blogrush brings to my site, then so be it. :-P

I am amazed at how well versed everyone is here.
Good comments about Blog Rush. John Reese was with us at the
World Internet Main Event. Everyone fawned of course...
I joined while there.
Notice the program is having many Blips and glitches..
I wil remain neutral, after all, I ventured nothing but a
few minutes to Join -
Thanks Pregnantexec for the answer to my burning question. Not one to be left out, I'd like to throw down my very impressive stat:

Now I have to say I am not super stoked. I did peruse the article attached to BlogRush that gave suggestions on how to best utilize BlogRush through your headlines, so I'll give that a whirl.
But so far, not seeing the love. -
I installed it and will give it a try. It can always be removed. I'm sure there will be some bugs along the way but we won't know unless we try.

So you're shooting way below you expectations, even though your blog is chugging along nicely otherwise.
Now I don't think much of BlogRush, but there is one possible problem with your example. You talked about your keywords being too all over the place for Google AdSense to be effective. Is it possible that the same problem applies to BlogRush? Or are you being shown in the right categories?

I think part of the battle is this product is only a few days old.
John Reese is a master at marketing. I am working for a guy that knows John well and for all practical purposes helped John Reese when he was a unknown. Now with that said there was a huge ground swell that appeared to be VIRAL, but it was more marketing driven by affiliate promotions and some very smart blogging and marketing tactics. I think the product is good, but the community that jumped on it was Affliates and marketers not the "real" blogging community.
I was talking to the team at BlogCatalog last night and we were kicking around ideas. I think they started a group about really helping bloggers monetize and grow there traffic. So your input on that group will be invaluable. So look for the group. -
I started a group in the new groups section to get more info one what is going on with blogrush. Anyone can join this group

Many of these sites remind me of that old urban myth back when scammers plied their trade in the want-ads of various newspapers.
"Send 10 dollars and find out how to make easy money!"
The response would arrive in an envelope a few weeks later. A single piece of paper was enclosed with one typed line:
"Do what I did." -

Also they had this listed:
IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Click- through rates are very low right now due to problems with some users cheating the system. We are a few days away from removing all abuse from the system and you will see your click-rates increase. We are also moving to a Manual Review Process for all member blogs which will also increase the traffic you receive. Thank you for your patience -- we're working hard to improve this beta version of our service.
Apparently people have been hiding the code on their page so the widget doesn't display, which is what they are saying is hurting the click through rate. I think though that this is getting blown out of proportion a bit, even if 1/5 of the people are doing it the amount of clicks from this program are really low. -
They claim to have a click-through rate of 0.44% That's around 4 for every thousand views. That's just too low.

Don't count traffic numbers from the console in Blogrush
If you haven't got some kind of 3rd party tracking then make sure you use at least Google Analytics (great for time on site, bounce rate etc) plus some kind of real time tracking that also allows filtering, possibly the pro version on MyBlogLog, or one of the many free real time tracking solutions.
I have written a lot more detail about tracking Blogrush and been providing details of the real traffic I have received.
So far it is over 100 visitors, and none of that is from referrals, as referral credits are not being used.-
I still think it is cheesy that you cannot add a BlogRush widget to a WordPress blog. It doesn’t work with Wordpress.com blogs, only self-hosted Wordpress.org ones. That has ticked off a whole lot of bloggers. Erin

I just added blogrush on my blog. I am going to give it some time to see if does anything. It isn't in my way and I don't mind having it on my blog. I am off to prison in less than 10 days--I will be back in 30 days--I will have guest bloggers so I will see.
www.lovebabz.blogspot.com -
According to lovebabz's blog, she is being banged up in a few days for a white collar crime. It was said in such a casual and breezy way that I did a double take as well.
Fair play to her for dealing with it in such a positive way. The tagline on her blog banner is: "Notes and views on being a wife, mother, felon and citizen of the world."
Good luck inside lovebabz. It should provide some good fodder for blogging once you're out.
I've just left your blog open on another tab because I like the music that you have there (something I don't usually like on blogs but this is nice.) -
Good luck, lovebabz ~
I signed up to Blogrush today as I figure it doesn't hurt to try it out for 30 days or so. If it doesn't do what it claims, I will remove it. Apparently, the other links they list in the widget are supposed to be in the same category as your own blog but I'm concerned that it could get out of hand if malicious or pornographic sites sneak their way into the mix.
I am one who will click on widget links and have already found a couple of nice art blogs via Blogrush to add to my Favourites.
