What is WordPress exactly? I just visited their site and I saw that you can download some application. But I did not understand what it really is. Is it some program that you can use together with your Blogspot blog?
    1. Deepak700e

Wordpress is a powerful blogging platform and software. It's very Search engine friendly, and 80% of Search engine are tackle by wordpress software by default (by Matt Cutt, HEAD of Google Anti Spam Team). You can download it for free and host your blog with this soft.
    3. BazsoDombiAndras
I see. Thanks for the clarification. I think I'll stick to Blogspot, though. One blog is enough for me

I Think Blogspot is more Powerful . And Provide More Option To Monetize Your Blogs . Like as Google Adsense,Google Webmasters, Google Search Engine, and Much More..

    Blogspot is Best.....:.:.:.:.:.:

Blogger is owned by Google (adsense, adwords, etc.) and allows advertising on it's free hosted blogs. That's why the blogspot platform is full of low quality and no quality splogs full of plagiarized and stolen content.

Wordpress does not allow Adsense, Yahoo, Chitika, TextLinkAds and other ads on WordPress.com blogs. n addition to AdSense-type ads, wordpress.com does not allow sponsored / paid posts including PayPerPost, ReviewMe and Smorty; affiliate / referral links to the following domains: usercash, clickbank, clickhop, cashrocks, payingcash; clicktrackers (and any similar) and any promotion of the “I made a million on the internet and so can you” type of advertising (i.e. MLM, network marketing, cash gifting, etc.).

"We have a very low tolerance for blogs created purely for search engine optimization or commercial purposes, machine-generated blogs, and will continue to nuke them, so if that’s what you’re interested in WordPress.com is not for you."

For me,i prefer blogspot to wordpress, but both i have also used before.
  5. cooltool
I love blogspot cause i never tried word(weird)press so far.
  6. FaithfulinPrayer
I'm never tried blogspot, only wordpress. I'm pretty happy with it. I'd like to see a few changes and sent my recommendations in.
  7. Shiley
I use both. They both have good and bad qualities. Blogger is easy to use and maneuver and Wordpress looks more professional. I think Wordpress is a little more difficult to use.

I once asked for help from Blogger and it took weeks for an answer. I asked for help from Wordpress and help was there in about two hours.
    1. jeremyjanson
Yes although on the flip side its much easier to edit the source code to make Blogger look more professional. Glad Wordpress has good service though.
  8. cooltool
Just to add something , the best themes for Blogger comming from Wordpress , so i agree they seem to be professional blog system. The best Blogger themes are actually adopted by WP.
And something i found today about WP.Their WP system can be download and used everywhere.
  9. mattiasx
I've only ever used WordPress, but there are many other blogging sites/software out there. There's also TypePad, Movable Type, and many, MANY others.
  10. sinhkhuong
I'm using blogspot, it's ok, but I think wp also good
  11. husdal
I've tried (in order of appearance) Movable Type, Blogger, TypePad, Squarespace, WordPressCOM and WordPressORG and WordPress is definitely the best and most versatile.
  12. sweetcynic
my main blog is a wordpress blog. i love the freedom you have with it.

i use blogspot for a journal for my boyfriend namely because you can specify it for certain google users. but i find it quite cumbersome! layout wise. it's a little too simplified for me with very little freedom.
  13. jeremyjanson
I've used both. Wordpress is more complicated and has less versatility. Worst of both worlds.
  14. Halconite
Never tried anything other than Blogspot...
  15. anthony9910
    Blogspot rocks! xD
  16. timethief
    EPIC FAIL!

The most useless, lame and over discussed topic in any forum is Blogger versus WordPress. If you don't believe me check the forum searchbox ->

    www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/search.php?q=wordpress+versus+blogger
    www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/search.php?q=blogger+wordpress

The arguments are cyclic. Blogspot software is inferior easy to use software with templates that do not validate out of the box, but allow for greater customization. Anyone can hack the crap put of it and screw it up royally underneath, while looking fine on the surface. Blogger also allows advertising.

Wordpress.COM has superior free hosted software but does not allow editing of templates because it's a multi-user blogging platform. That means if the underlying template is edited all blogs with the same theme are likewise affected. Also at wordpress.com advertising ia not allowed. Consequently, the free hosted wordpress.com community is not comprised of spammers, sploggers and scammers.
    1. jeremyjanson

Although on the flip side TT, who actually looks at their host community? My community is BC! I don't look at other Blogger blogs unless they're here or referenced by someone else.
  17. arindra
I am a wordpress lover . Not sure why some of you have no interest for it . But it allows more customizations and ease of use than any other blogging platform and a huge collection of plugins and usages.
    1. timethief
Wordpress software comprises a complete CMS. Blogspot software is limited to only a blog.
    2. timethief
Yes, we can use many plugins on self hoted wordpress.org installs that we self host on our own domains.
    3. jeremyjanson
If you know HTML you can customize blogger pretty easily, but I do suppose it requires some coding knowledge....
  18. luv4treat
    i love blogger...
    1. timethief
What exactly do you love about the software? And how many other types of blogging software have you used?
  19. metal666
    hey...... timethief
dont compare blogger with hosted wordpress
    Compare blogger.com and wordpress.com
    Thats true compeition
    1. husdal
      How is that truer comptetion?
    2. timethief
      What competition?

Bottom line: If you want to blog for bucks on inferior software without spending money then go to blogspot.

If you want to blog for bucks on superior software then hire a web host and download free software from wordpress.ORG for your own domain. Good web hosting is not expensive and everyone in business knows you must spend money to make money.
  20. jijosunny
Wordpress software acts well than any other.
But comparing the free hosting websites, Blogspot is the best, because wordpress doesn't allow you to put ad unless you have a paid account.

    Cheers
    1. husdal
There are no paid accounts on wordpress. wordpressCOM is free, and so is wordpressORG. However, with wordpressORG you need to pay for a domain and for hosting. That's the difference.
    2. timethief
      @jijosunny
Yes you can have advertising on blogspot and yes you can hack the template. However, the assumption that every blogger has a blog simply to make money from it is erroneous. As wordpress.com demonstrates there are millions of bloggers who do NOT blog for bucks. Last month wordpress.com reported 2,153,498 active blogs.

      @Husdal
Yes, there are paid VIP hosted accounts at wordpress.com but qualifying to have one is not easily accomplished. wordpress.com/vip-hosting/
"You may be a good candidate for VIP hosting if, for example, you get more than 500,000 pageviews a month on your blog. Pricing begins at $500/month per blog with a one-time setup fee of $600, but may be flexible depending on your circumstances or number of blogs."

Wordpress.com VIP powers more than 50 blogs for CNN including Anderson Cooper's 360 blog. It also powers canihascheeseburger (sp?) CNN’s Political Ticker, Dow Jones’ All Things D, National Football League’s Official NFL blog, Time Inc’s The Page, People Magazine’s Style Watch, Om Malik, official blogs for communities like Flickr and BBC’s Top Gear, and many other high-profile and high-traffic blogs.
    3. husdal
TT, you are correct as always, there are paid accounts on wordpressCOM. I was trying to counter the statement that wordpress doesn't allow you to put ad unless you have a paid account. It does...if you have 500$/mo or 500,000 pageviews/mo, something only few average bloggers qualify for, which is why I said that they (paid accounts) don't exist (for most of us).
  21. deborah3756
    I like Blogspot by far.

Depending on which wordpress you have will give you more tools to work with or not.

Free wordpress, you can't do much with. No, widgets to try and make money etc...

I like blogspot. You have a lot of room to customize your blogs.
    1. timethief
No widgets? Where did you get that erroneous idea from? Every free hosted wordpress.com blog comes equipped with a full complement of widgets that actually work. There are far too many for me to list them all here. One does not have to try and find third party widgets on the internet that may or may not work like blogspot bloggers do.

Also one can purchase an upgrade for 4 cents per day and customize the css stylesheet for their wordpress.com blog. Also there are over 75 themes that validate, unlike blogspot templates, and 27 of them do allow for customizable headers.
    2. drummingpariah
Timethief is right, wordpress.com does a great job of offering a lot of different options for customization. However, you cannot insert ads on their free service.
    3. timethief
I'm well aware of the adverstising restriction and that was one of the most compelling reasons for me to move from blogspoit to wordpress.com. Another compelling reason was that the software is superior. A third compelling reason is that there is both peer support and Staff support 24.7.365 at wordpress.com. Add to foregoing the fact that the global tags pages do deliver traffic to your blog, and top it off we being a part of a decent blogging community, where sploggers, spammers and trolls do not rule but are butt kicked right out the door.

Blogger support is poor. Blogger does not have global tagging pages that drive traffic to blogs. Blogger does not have widget equipped blogs. Instead, one has to fiddle around with third party widgets they secure from the internet.

Blogpsot is a spammers and sploggers paradise. It doesn't matter if you have expertise in a niche, can write well or have anything useful to contribute to the world -- getting a stable of free blogspot blogs, fill them with stolen and/or plagariazed content, and pimp them out for adsense pennies has become very commonplace.

In this BC social network which member are more likely to spams the crap out of forum threads and groups threads? The answer is free hosted blogspot bloggers who have advertising on their blogs ... hands down!
  22. emooyoungart
Wow, Timethief is a real defender of Wordpress and she's right. Most of the big professional bloggers, who earn huge sums per month use Wordpress. But for ease of use in setting up, Blogger is best. It seems to me, that Blogger is best for beginners, later as you develop proficiency, Wordpress offers more professional options.
    1. drummingpariah
Wordpress is free, set up already (if you're using .com), and you can grow into using the full-fledged self-hosted version (using the software downloaded from .org, installed on a LAMP server). You don't need to be a pro to see the benefits of Wordpress.

      @emooyoungart
I'm not trying to put you down or attack you personally here, but you're wrong. You have not given Wordpress the same chance you have given to Blogger. It's just as simple (if not simpler) to get up and running and have something that looks good. The text editors are equivalent, but the presentation, speed, expandability, and barriers to entry for prospective commenters are much lower.

I've spent quite a bit of time using both, and even had the two sync'd and running simultaneously for a few months awhile back, but ended up using Wordpress (.com, the already-set-up-version until I eventually tried .org and never looked back) exclusively. It's just my .02, but my .02 are very objective and I'm looking at it from a sterile perspective of 'whats better for anyone/everyone' and I can't come up with a good excuse to use Blogger other than the POTENTIAL to sneak ads in there (if you have ads on your site, you'd better be generating enough money to be able to pay for an inexpensive bluehost account ... otherwise, why are you bothering with ads?).
  23. michaelclements
Much talk of income. What happened to doing it for pleasure?
Wordpress hands down, not because of income generating ploys, but because it is flexible and powerful, not that I've tried blogspot, why would I when I've got wordpress? michaelclements.co.uk/
    1. jeremyjanson
Yeah I don't use income generators but I still like the fact that blogspot has two modification interfaces, one is simple and quick to use, the other one allows me direct access to the code. This allows me to work down to the physical level when I need to, and avoid doing any work at all when I don't need to so I can get right back to bloggin'. I use blogspot mainly but do have a wordpress account for blogs related to schoolwork as on those I have to use my real name.
  24. celticmusicfan
I have to agree with tt in terms of wordpress superiority. I never took blogging seriously until I joined wordpress. Seeing 'blog stats' chart gives one the push to keep on doing the right thing because you know which of your posts gets a lot of traffic. The design is superior. It doesn't matter if what you write about gets paid or not. It is the final result that matters. Being able to get your idea out to the world, being able to touch lives and to highlight ideas and artist that matter -what could be more satisfying?
    1. jeremyjanson
You can get add-ons to do what you're describing in blogspot. Better yet, you can decide not to do that and free up processing space for faster loading.
  25. Deepak700e
Wordpress is More Professional Then Blogspot. And maintain More Quality Then Blogspot.... But .... Blogspot Offers Users More Monetization Tools. and Help Author to Earn Revenue Form Their Blogs. And Offer Authors to play with Template and Codings .. Therefore I think There is no any Problem to Choose Blogspot.
  26. mister2mike
depends on what your needs are. Ilike blogspot as I can easily add any widget I want. With wordpress.com,there are already predefined widgets and they're so hard to customize.

Wordpress.org though is the best choice!
  27. MountainSage
I've used Blogspot, Wordpress.com and now have a self-hosted blog using Wordpress software.

With most hosts that are recommended for self-hosted wordpress blogs there is no need to download the software, the host has it available for almost instant activation. I would guess there are thousands of Wordpress.org templates and themes and enough widgets to do just about anything you want to do.

I find it amusing that people who are struggling to get 100 hits a day on their blogs and always asking how to increase traffic are often the same ones worried about monetizing their blogs.

Wordpress.com also has the option for $10 a year to forward your wordpress.com blog to your self-hosted blog if and when you make that move. I still get hits from my wordpress.com blog on my self-hosted blog all the time.

Wordpress.com does a better job of advertising your blog for you through it's tag setup. I more than doubled my hits over my blogspot blog instantly when I moved to wordpress.com.
    1. husdal
I can attest to traffic-generating effects of the tag structure at wordpressCOM. If used wisely it's one the top tools for increasing search engine ranking.

After moving my domain from wordpressCOM to wordpressORG it took me almost two months to regain the former SERP I have had wordpressCOM.
