This discussion is about Blue Screens of Death. Has anybody else ever come across this error? When you get a blue screen of death (BSOD) your computer attempts to start up but instead of booting into your Operating System you see nothing but a big blue screen with a bunch of mumbo jumbo wrote all over it.

I recently had this happen to me and it took almost a week to finally figure out what my specific error meant, because there are almost NO explanations out there.

My blue screen "stop error" as they call it was INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE which turned out meaning my BUS cable going to my hard drive had fried and needed to be replaced. I replaced the entire hard drive and several other parts before I found out it was just a cable!

Anyway, to prevent this from happening to anybody else or at least in attempt to offer some sort of help I have put up a detailed list of all of the BSOD Errors that you might come across and detailed descriptions of them and possible resolutions.

You can read them here: alex.hsgoodman.org/category/free-repair-guides/errors/blue-screen-stop-erro...

Let me know if it helps!

I've only experienced the BSOD with XP and previous versions of Windows. Vista and onwards, no BSOD so far.

brace yourself friend, there's more where that came from

    Or just get a Mac!

Well, the problem with Mac's is that when they decide they are in a bad mood and don't want to start up, instead of giving you a BSOD their screen stays black and you might get a couple of beeps and the LED will flash. That's basically the Mac version of BSOD.

I get about 5-10 people a day coming to my site for Mac startup beep codes and flashes lol

Well, if the computer companies would provide proper manuals with their computers, maybe we'd be better able to trouble shoot the problems.

Think about it...my new laptop's manual is on a CD. Great if nothing is wrong, but if the bugger won't boot and this in the only computer I have...meaning I can't access the content on the CD...what the h*** good is it?

Good point. They obviously assume everybody is financially well-off enough to have two or more computers.

Another trend I have noticed with Computer manufacturers is they are starting to not make Recovery CD's anymore! Instead, they put the content of the CD on a seperate partition on your hard-drive (for example, if Windows is installed on your C drive you will usually find this "Recovery Drive" as D or E).

The problem this creates is that if you get a virus that completely wipes out your hard drive or you come across a problem that makes your hard drive completely inaccessible, you will never be able to restore your computer to it's original state with the recovery process.

You can argue that Windows 7 is better than Vista, Vista is better than XP, etc, but each operating system has it's pro's and cons. I for one will never upgrade to Windows 7 because I believe the majority of the features in 7 should have been FREE upgrades for the people who got ripped off by buying Vista.

If you never see a blue screen of death, don't thank your operating system, thank your computer manufacturer because the majority of BSOD errors are all hardware. If you never come across a BSOD you know you've got a decent piece of machinery!

If you see Blue Screens of Death,
it means you are not using your PC the way it meant to be. LOL Simple!

Use your PC with (sound knowledge) and care

My laptop has done this since I got it, which was over the Holidays last December. It only has done it once in a great while until recently, when it started doing this way too frequently--like twice a week. Today, I was working on one of my classes that I teach online and I lost about 45 minutes worth of work because it was online so there was no autorecovery. Man was I peeved!

I know I need to move my stuff to my old laptop and send this one into IBM. I have tried the 'fixes' they recommend but they didn't work and I have no idea what it could be. It also did this when the computer was only a few weeks old (I should have shipped it back after that first time) but then it stopped and I forgot about it. But then a few weeks ago, it mysteriously started doing this on a regular basis.

Next time it happens write down the error it gives you.

It should say something about STOP and a few numbers such as 0x0000013 and maybe a few words after that such as INSERT_ERROR_HERE.

Let me know what it says and I might be able to help you!
    2. melindaville
Thanks, I definitely will and will shout you. The problem is that the screen flashes so quickly that I haven't had time to write down everything it says. It says something like bugcode (and then some #'s afterward). I will see if I can write down more--and I appreciate your help!

Normally is Hardware problem, well, here are some tips! First check the HDD for errors using chkdsk, second see the temperature of the CPU(too high will make the pc crash, if that's the problem, you should clean your pc), third see if there is any damage hardware, fourth see the code error and search on google if isn't of this problems, fifth if you installed a new component maybe it isn't compatible with the hardware you have(happens to newbies, buy without know what they are buying!), if your problem don't fix, consult a professional!
