I didn't know what to expect - but I thought that was funny. At this moment, my favorite is #3 - "Pick a good pose!"
Thanks - I needed a laugh.
Now, a shameless plug: More about volcanoes than you may want to know - "Attention, Governor Jindal: Volcanoes Go Boom, Bury Cities" (February 25, 2009). ( apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2009/02/attention-governor-jinal-volcanos-go.... )
Turns out, that little hiccup by Mt. St. Helens a few years ago is small change, compared to what's likely to happen soon (geologically speaking), when the Yellowstone caldera erupts again.
I'm not panicking: odds are good that we've got around 60,000 years to get ready. My guess is that someone will have tapped the geothermal energy out of that hotspot by then.
Again, thanks.-
And, I've added a link to that cartoon on my post about Governor Jindal's unintentional stand-up comedy ( apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/2009/02/attention-governor-jinal-volcanos-go.... )
Actually, that post is more about big volcanoes - really big volcanoes. -
Hey, thanks for the shout out! I just noticed the link to my post, much appreciated. I do try to look on the lighter side of things, even though this issue does have a tendency to freak me out. I saw a program about supervolcanoes a while back. When Jindal said that thing about volcano monitoring in his address, if I had been drinking I would have done a spit-take.

Volcano preparedness is serious business. For instance, a massive shelf of volcanic rock in Hawaii will soon (in geological terms) fall into the Pacific Ocean after an eruption. This will raise a tsunami large enough to wipe out most coastal cities in CA and OR, plus Baja in Mexico. I wonder how Jindal feels about hurricane preparedness.
