My wife and I have started to write a book about her heart failure, experience of being listed for transplant and unexpected but gradual recovery. I have also maintained a blog about her for several years. Can anyone recommend other good against-the-odds blogs on similar issues?

I have not come across any blogs about heart failure, but quite a few on other health issues.

I suspect they may be few and far between...my wife was 43 when she had her heart attack, which is atypical. Hmmm...

I am no stranger to atypical medical things, the mumborg has seen to that. So it is a good thing to be writing about your wife, as I am sure it will help someone.

It was incredibly helpful in keeping people informed about her condition without having to spend time on the phone that I needed to keep free for her needs. It just mushroomed from there.

Yes that is how I started writing about the mumborg, why a million phone calls or texts, when a blog post will do

Kind of off topic, but still on topic.

In recent years there have been more and more women in their 40's having heart attacks.

And the scariest part of it is that when it's men, it's taken seriously. With women, paramedics often presume (as they did with my wife) that it's a panic attack. Truly frightening.

Yes, but that is changing. The new curriculum for (most) EMT's include women as at risk as well. It's just a slow process to get everyone on the same page

Let's hope...the fact we were less than 5 mins from the hospital made a lot of difference.

Wow - 43!!! Did she wind up not needing the transplant?

Nobody can really explain why, but no, at least for now. She recovered to near-normal. She'll likely have more problems in the future but, for now, she's pretty much golden.

      Glad to hear it.

Thanks. She's a fighter. She has a sister who's dying of cancer that metastisized from her breast to her spine. Tough...the whole lot of them.

      wow that's too bad!

Thanks...she's one of my pals. She's eight years older than me, but I call her Kiddo.

The human body is an absolutely fantastic thing. Especially when one considers how we abuse it! I hope your wife continues to heal.

I really think she will. Not to sound too maudlin, but we're hoping her sister has a turn for the better soon, too. We were told by Patty's doctor once not to be "stupidly optimistic." But with Kiddo, we can at least be "foolishly hopeful." Thanks.

Your wife's sister can't be that old either!! Cancer is such a terrible thing!

Hi Brian--what an amazing story. I finished writing my book a few months ago and I am now working with professional editor through my agent. Good luck with the writing of your book and if you have any questions, I am happy to tell you what I've learned. I was lucky enough to have a friend who is a published author who introduced me to his agent.

Best of luck to you and your wife.

Thank you. Patty and I have actually written about 25% of a book about her experience. The agent who sold my book is shopping it around now. It's a wonderful story. We keep running into the bane of most non-fiction writers' existence...no established writer's platform in the genre. We shall see...
