People make trip after trip to the local mall, attempting to purchase that which cannot be bought for any price...happiness. Even as the debt crises in North America becomes more critical, people cannot seem to resist the call of the name brand. North Americans no longer worship a single God, their attentions are split between Tommy, Nike, Dolce and Gabana, Liz Claiborne, etc and etc. Not only are these items over priced, they are beautifully labeled so that the world can recognize that the wearer is a person of "value".

Penn and Teller did a special titled "The Best" a while back. It's hilarious too, what they did was get these women to tell their guy friends about a free dinner of extremely expensive food. And the guys fell in, hook line and sinker. These are the same people who spend more for the "Finer things in life" like owning expensive cars and preferring one restaurant over another.

The joke was that all of the food being served in this fine restaurant was dirt-cheap and bought at places like gas stations and run-down dollar stores. But the guys fell for it because they were thinking it was the best, so it was the best because it was the best to them. You dig?

Anyways, point is that having "The best" is always a marketing illusion and a trick courtesy of advertisers and popularity contests. If you gave a trusting woman a ring out of a candy machine and told her it was "the best" she would automatically believe it really was the best and be happy..Same thing here.

I think the show opened up with this baby-boomer douchebag ranting on and on about all of the cellphones and palm-pilots he owns..It had to be in the hundreds and he made it his goal (Not a hobby, hobbies don't cost money) to always own the best of this world. It was completely all for nothing because they all essentially did the same thing, make calls and send text..A few extra bells and whistles thrown in, but definitely not worth the hundreds of dollars they cost plus the monthly service charges.

These people who always want the next best thing are just running on a mouse-wheel, and it's such a hoot watching them run in circles, pull their hair out and fork out thousands of dollars at a time for something they already own.
