Warren Buffetts co just invested 44 bio in a railroad. This is the largest investment ever for berkshire-hathaway. What would you think is Buffetts rationale for this mega investment?

Inclark,
It would seem to me to be a good investment if he is predicting a change in the transport habits of Americans, ie a greater tendency to pile up in city centers (thus an end to the dominant suburban sprawl model - where 50 per cent of Americans live).
How high would the price of a gallon of oil have to go to motor this change?

I can tell you that a lot of folks around here are pretty nervous, since the rails run through many towns (including two sets within three blocks of me in both directions, right now) and many farmers and mines rely on the service to do business. I'd be happy to see an increase in passenger rail service, though, should it be sustainable. It's much more a civilized way to travel, at least for the passengers.
