Having had decent success using SEO for Google, I have started venturing into social networking and social bookmarking with my new blog www.maximumbusinesscredit.com
I have found most of the advice out there equates to "use digg, and stumbleupon, make friends, join communities, have success".
What I'm finding in my few days of research that quality friend making and reciprocity aren't that easy. Anybody had any real success (ie at least 50+ unique people per day, or a good number of rss subscriptions) come out of using blog catalog?

I have been "blogging" for a few months in that time I have met(online) a few people got all excited that we were on the same wave length whatever I promoted the hell out of them every way possible, once they got what they wanted or whatever I'm hearing crickets.Online/real life straight up old school 100% REAL mofos are hard to come by.This is a whole different world now then what I grew up in the streets of NYC to.
It's sad and troubles me often but it's LIFE in this world now.
anyway I stumbled ya and techno.
PS-dont mean to bum you out but dont set yourself up for disappointment like I did,now I realize that when it's all said and done the only person you can count on nowadays is YOU:(
PSS when i say blogging for a few months-I have had a computer for yrs since a TRS80 model 3 in the early 80's I only blog cause I decided it was more important to be around my son so I came back to San Antonio,so I do this and smoke mad weed cause there's not much else going on unless u gangbang-at least where I'm at.I hear "them" right outside my door at night talking all that NONSENSE-Yo DOG -

I agree with that, however it seems like there must be a strategy that works for broadening your social network (ie getting more friends on sites like blogcatalog, digg, stumbleupon) that is specific. clearly you'll have to create useful content and be engaged with your network, but I think that's the easy part. I guess i'm just an social network NOOB -
I get loads of traffic from BC. And, more importantly, it seems, is that the visitors I get come back again and again.
Plus, with all the socializing here, I've managed to get better at using things like stumble, and Digg, and have already had good contacts, to help me get started and promote me.
So, it's worked all around for me.
Pre BC = 20 hits a day tops.
with BC = 100 hits a day, and then some. Many unique visitors (per day, or for every so many hours that they use in the equation, or whatever). -
I'm delighted to say that without doubt my blogging tips blog is getting traffic from BC. I have also noticed that the visitors I get do come back and that blog subscribers have increased as well. Although I've yet to use other social networks effectively I do intend to do so in the future but, BC feels very much like "home" to me.

@Anok - I think it's great that you've been able to experiment and make good contacts, that's exactly what I'm hoping to achieve here; it's also the reason I started this discussion.
@rearvumirr - I started using twitter a couple of days ago. I'm not certain "i get it" from the stand point of an indivudual blogger. I certainly understand it's use for a business that has products and support staff. I'm going to keep plugging away at it though. My twitter address is www.twitter.com/maxbusinesscred
@timethief - what have you done with BC that has driven traffic to your site. To you participate mostly in discussion, start discussions, surf groups, what?
@stilesjp - can you tell me what the difference is between BC and MyBlogLog. I have some ideas, but like I said, I'm kind of a NOOB
