I've noticed that some people seem to eat out every single meal. I'll go out to eat lunch every once in a while during my lunch break just for a change of pace or if I need to grocery shop, but I'm not one to go out to eat every day.

It is much more cost efficient to bring a lunch to work and eat in. Also, it's easier to be healthier and if you bring the right things, it's actually better tasting and better for you!

Do you eat out for lunch at work or do you brown bag it?

I agree! Eating out all the time is too unhealthy, I think--unless you go to health conscious restaurants but those can get pretty expensive.

I think it is much better to bring your own lunch--you know what goes into hte products and it's usually less fattening as welll.

Yeah, you mentioned the word restaurant and on top of healthier food being more expensive, if you go and sit down somewhere for lunch vs. going to fast food, you also end up paying tip to your waiter/waitress as well.

      Good point.

I brown bag at my desk at work. I am the KING of leftovers...and it saves a ton of money.

Sometimes food taste better the next day anyway!! No leftover goes to waste when I'm around lol...

I don't generally eat lunch at all.

Brown bag it. It's cheaper, and better for your figure.

better for my figure? I better just start eating just the brown bag then, cause I ain't doing something right.
    2. Anok
Well, OK it's supposed to be better for your figure IF you control what you put in the brown bag....

I'm with RTB. Eat the bag. I'm sure it has plenty of fiber!

lol... Good point, control of what goes into the bag definitely has what to do with the "health" benefits of brining your own lunch.

i used to eat out for lunch, but that adds up so fast
~$250 a month, like another bill!!

It can cost quite a bit to eat out. Like you mentioned when you add it up over the course of a month it's a pretty hefty bill. You can sometimes save up to half the amount you spend eating out vs. going grocery shopping and bringing your lunch to work.

I work at home .. so, it's more like "frigid lunches" instead of "bagged lunches".

But I have been trying to eat healthier and more salad. Salad add croutons. Add red/yellow/orange/green peppers. Add onions. Add broccoli. Add carrots. Add Green onions. Add salad dressing. And, if I want to splurge I might add mini marshmallows, bacon bits and/or turkey to the salad.

It's cheaper to buy a brand name "Sante Fe" or "Asian Mix" prepackaged salad and fixings than make your own these days (unless you have 5 people or more)

You're right, the pre-packaged salads are typically cheaper than buying all the ingredients separately. A lot of times you can find them on sale buy one get one free. The convenience of working from home must be nice.

I always have my own. If I can't prepare it or don't have time or am out and about, then I may buy something semi-healthy, but still choose pretty much what I'd eat anyway.

Strictly Tupperware or eat out for me. Brown bags, don't they get a bit mushy?

When I worked in an office, I took my lunch with me. Technically, I didn't 'brown bag,' since my food was in a plastic tub and (reusable) plastic bag.

Now, I get my meals hot from the kitchen: which is the next room over from my desk. There are advantages to working at home.

I agree, Norski--I work from home myself--and this is definitely one (of many) perks.

I always prepare my lunch and snack the day before, and bring my own water.

    Saves money for one thing.

If you are eating a proper diet your waistline and long-term health will benefit.

It's definitely easier to prep lunch the night before, it's easier than rushing in the morning trying to get everything ready before leaving for work. Bringing water or soda is a big way to save, especially if you buy from the vending machines, which are typically overpriced!

Considering I tend to cook quite often, I usually will brown-bag it. Since I am not currently working, I just grab it from the fridge.

I have very little time between work and class so i typically try to bring my lunch like a sandwich or slimfast. Something quick and easy to eat while i'm rushing between places.

I go through phases. I work at a college that has just changed vendors for our cafeteria and snack bar. The new vendors use locally-produced, organic foods whenever possible, and are surprisingly affordable. I've been buying a lot more often now.
