Hi there all!

OK, my Dell Inspiron 1501 has 45 GB of storage on the C Drive and I only have 5.74 GB left. Because of this, my programs don't respond or are slow and my Internet can be slow too.

Before I run out and buy a new hard drive, I'm smart enough to know that there must be another way to resolve this problem besides buying a new one.

I have deleted and/or uninstalled files and/or programs that I don't need. However, to be honest with you, there are other things that came with the laptop and I don't want to delete something important.

I'm not too familiar with computer maintenance but I'm learning.

In addition, I noticed that while I have not downloaded anything for awhile (I bought a portable hard drive), my remaining GB seems to fluctuate. Yesterday, I had 6.74 and last week it was 7. something and now today it's down to 5.74. Why does this happen?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Thanks for the advice, Techhgyan. I have Windows Vista and to be honest, I'm not all that tech savvy, as I stated before.

I take it that I can find tuneup utilitise or ccleaner on my computer or is that something I have to download?

I had download things from the Internet but now I put them on my portable hard drive, unless they're programs, then I download them on my computer.

As far as fluctuating, as I said, one day I will have 6.74 GB left of storage space and the day I'll have 5.74 GB and the day after that, it might go back up to 6.24 GB. And I haven't downloaded anything for a while now.
