It seems that the CA treasury wasn't prepared for the number of LGBT citizens who decided to skip out on their taxes this year. Did they REALLY think that gays would sit back and take ABUSE after ABUSE from the government?

Think again! I'm witnessing a huge underground movement that the government will NEVER be able to gauge due to the widespread anonymity, but so far the general sentiment I hear from most gays is "F*CK the government". I agree.

CASH ONLY in CALIFORNIA!

As a straight Canadian male, I'm dumbfounded at how a segment of the US population is being discriminated against. How can all these rights NOT be afforded to EVERY segment of the population??

If you offer a governmental service to catholics, but not to hindis - that's discrimination. If you, as a business owner, will hire only men and not women - that's discrimination!!

So, why is it that every segment of the US population can get married, except Gays? Why is that, for the most part, anyone can adopt a child, yet Gays have many difficulties?

    That's discrimination.

So, if a segment of the population is not receiving the services they're due through the payment of their taxes AND they're being discrimated by said government ... I say withhold the taxes en masse. That'll get their attention!!

What are they going to do? Prosecute and jail 10m Gays? Let alone their supporters.

    Like me. Nuff said.

seems like it should fall under "freedom of contract"

republicans should be all about that, right?

You are comparing two things which are not of the same order.

In the first case, the natural family unit (general case taken, not the exceptions) is the ethical basis of (administrative) marriage - offering in particular legal protection to the less autonomous members of the unit.

In the second case, love/pleasure would be the ethical basis of (administrative) marriage.

If love/pleasure were the ethical basis of marriage, then it would make sense to speak of equality or discrimination.

did the "institution of marriage" begin as a "natural family unit" (which I am assuming is the same as was once called a "nucular" family)? Or did it begin as a simple property exchange?

I guess this is one way to go about it, but frankly I don't think it will do anything, nor do I think anyone will escape paying their taxes. Truthfully, I think this act could backfire horribly and could garner a lot of animosity from California residents who will pay their taxes. Also, the state will make you pay taxes, especially if you put a bullseye on your forehead.

I suppose you can not pay your taxes, but the government will get it from you somehow, even if they have to lock you up.

Truth be known ... there is no law stating that the US Government has the right to collect taxes, but what they do have are laws regarding the failure to pay taxes.

I suggest watching the documentary Zeitgeist ... skip through the first 8 minutes of crap, but then watch it to the end.

There are former Tax Auditors who worked for the US Government (can't think of the Dept.) who do not pay taxes. They were taken to court and won, as there is not law saying the US can collect taxes.

All I know is that Wesley Snipes wishes that were true.

Can you point out which lawsuit they supposedly won?

The 16th Amendment to the US Constitution:

"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

Homosexuals refusing to pay their taxes would be but a tiny drop of spittle when it comes to the revenue issues California faces.

It may be an issue for some cities or counties, but as a whole is a mere 1/4 of a pixel so far as the big picture goes.

California revenue issues are nothing new, they are just bigger than ever now.

It's the train wreck everyone has known was coming.

I wonder what would happen if the illegal immigrants were removed from the state and Gray Davis...who ended his last term with a budget surplus...took back the governorship?
    2. trailofpen
The removal of illegal immigrants would spell doom for California financially. Who else can business owners pay scraps to gain a bundle?
    3. SweetViolet
Oh, bulldust. With the exception of point-of-sale taxes (i.e.,sales, gasoline, liquor, tobacco), illegal immigrants do not pay into the state or federal tax system. They do, however, make extensive use of tax-supported services such as schools, welfare (a child born in the US of illegal aliens is entitled to welfare), MediCal, and public hospitals. Meeting the needs of the children of illegal aliens has nearly bankrupted at least one California school system (Fresno).

Since when does California (or any other state) need employers that can't stay afloat by hiring natives and legal immigrants?

If rfburnhertz wants to think gay tax revenue in CA is so tiny it can be dismissed - well, that is a nice fantasy. Have you actually BEEN to CA? (lol)

Wesley Snipes was an idiot - he had no VALID reason for tax revoltm UNLIKE gays. The I.R.S. may have ways to get to your money, esp. if you are dumb enough to manage it in a way where they have access to it - THE PICKET LINE has some nice ways to avoid government involvement in your money - sniggle.net/Experiment/index.php?entry=howto

More and more gays have decided to use their 2nd Amendment rights to protect themselves and their familes from unjust, immoral taxation without equality. I.E. - we will FIGHT against injustice, no matter what the costs.
