Can Blogging be a "ministry"?

I was asked by a friend if I was into any special service or ministry for the Lord. I told the young man that I blog for Jesus.
He exclaimed that blogging is not a real ministry. Blogging is more of a journal that relates mostly to the author.
I begged to differ with his assessment since I feel my Christian Bloggers Online blog is for nothing more than to help spread The Gospel of Jesus Christ and is not for personal gain. I consider my work as a true ministry.
Am I wrong in my vision? Can a person have and maintain a real ministry presence on the Internet?

Blogging? That's your call. BlogCatalog? Maybe not so much. Though some here feel differently: www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/sunday-message

"Blogging is more of a journal that relates mostly to the author."
Well, that depends entirely on the blog, doesn't it? It sounds like your friend doesn't know much about blogs and is relying on a one-sentence description someone gave him. -
I would agree that blogging can be a ministry to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ . Ministry is service to the Lord and what ever we do in spreading the gospel God can use it as ministry . We water and plant and God gives the increase . Ministry is not just for preachers in the pulpit but can be many different avenues if the Holy Spirit is behind it.

While I can't speak to the notion of a "real ministry," one only needs to start clicking on avatars here to see that blogs are used for an extremely broad array of purposes--ranging from those where people talk about their most personal feelings at a given moment, to those presenting well thought-out and researched essays on politics, to poems, to photos, to...yes, sermons.

I find it a "calling" of mine to blog about uncovering false doctrines in the modern church world. So I guess you can call that a ministry. If you feel the Lord is leading you to do anything, even giving a homeless man some money knowing full well he will spend it on a 40oz, do it.

Like any ministry, there should be cyber churches whereby these blogs can be read. A gathering place and not a discussion venue. This is only my opinion.

BC is doing itself a humongous favor by continuing to be a place that embraces free speech....even if it means....gulp....talking about Jesus once in awhile.

Not at all. I would just like to have assumed you'd find out for yourself before you made such a point of using the phrase repeatedly in public discussion.
Disappointing that a self-proclaimed serious Christian would drop by this thread only to advance his own agenda and not bother to respond to the question posed, anyway. -
Nothing to do with forgiveness, GG. It wasn't my question and I have no personal stake in the matter. I'm just concerned, as I've expressed in these forums before and to Ruski personally, about the damage to Christianity and human connection that he does with his constant aggressive and prideful "discussions" that are more like verbal beatings.

Anyways, sorry, I hadn't answered your question sooner.
I read your mission statement here at your BC page...and yes, you are doing a ministry. Whether that is your full time gig (ministry) or not is something for you to determine.
Thanks for providing a networking service to help out bloggers looking for bloggers and sites of similar interest. -

Well, where I am concerned, DrowseyMonkey has it right.
Bottom line: I know where my nearest church is and I am adept at using Google if I want to find an on-line "church." Satellite TV in my area offers an abundance of televangelists. Don't bring it to me...I'll go get it if I want it.
Ruski's "99% positive" is misleading...I am sure I am not the only one who simply refrained from saying something negative. Shall we all make negative comments next time so you have a more complete picture? Bear in mind, I won't read the message, I'll just suggest you take it elsewhere.
Churchy stuff is like porn: we all know where to find it if we want it, and it is offensive to have it stuck in our faces without invitation.-
Do you disagree that I should be able to go get religion when I want it and not be bushwhacked with somebody else's religion every place I turn?
Do you disagree that Ruski's 99% is misleading? I just took a tour of that thread and I think it's more than misleading, it's an outright lie. The majority of the comments I saw were NOT supportive of being preached to without invitation on BC.
Or do you disagree that churchy stuff is offensive when it is stuck in our faces without invitation?
How about I spam the discussion with a thread about how all you christians are going to hell because you are worshipping the wrong god and the REAL god is pissed and will torture you forever...and then I post links to my blogs that expound even further on the subject. Would you find that offensive?
When I want religion...or porn, for that matter...I know exactly how to find it, I don't need people who think they know what is good for me (which is rather insulting, don't you think?) slapping me in the face with it. Religion and faith are, like sex, very personal and should be kept private. Wasn't it Jesus himself who criticized the Pharisees for their public displays of piety?

We are getting Christian spammed here at the moment
There is a place to post at BC
Yes it's Sunday and you're doing YOUR God's work but this is Religious Martketing
And the Lord is actually a SHE to some-
Excellent point, Red Panda. Perhaps the administrators can move these threads to a more appropriate discussion?
If they can do it, I can do it...here's a link to my favourite religious-themed site: www.fstdt.com/fundies/default.aspx?date=2008/08&archive=1

My blog is kind of a ministry. I am beginning to highlight a new ministry I am starting outside of cyberspace on my blog. Sometimes journaling your life is a ministry. Mine journals my life and I tell stories that inspire me and I talk about things I think need to change in the church. My life is a ministry for Jesus Christ. Why shouldn't my blog?

Can Blogging be a "ministry"?
AngieA (Admin member and co-owner of BC said):
I personally believe it can be, but not allowed on BC.
Sorry and end of story.

Indeed that's so. However, BlogCatlog is NOT a blog and it is NOT a public space or place, and "freedom of speech" applies ONLY to public spaces and places. Therefore, any member of any religion who attempts to evangelize in forum threads in this private space and place ought to be mindful of what AngieA said.
"The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny him with their life style. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." -- Brennan Manning
I agree with what sweetviolet observed above:
When I want religion ... or porn, for that matter ... I agree with what MadameX said as well:
