Discussions

Hey gang. I have a question for anyone out there with the know-how.

I designed my blog myself in good ol' HTML and PHP without the use of Blogger, WordPress, etc. However now I'm interested in using Blogger (or some other blogging interface) for the sole purpose of handling visitor comments. My reasons for this are 1.) I'd rather not program everything users expect from a commenting interface myself, and 2.) I'm interested in using the SezWho plugin via Entrecard, and it appears as though it's only designed to be used with existing blog commenting software like Blogger, WordPress, etc.

So does anyone know if it's possible to use Blogger only for its commenting features and have it integrated with my existing blog? Or does anyone have another alternative solution?

Any insight you may have is appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry Ryan. I don't know but by replying I'll be bumping this discussion back to the top of the list in case it catches someone that didn't see it before, lol.

I don't see how Blogger would be suitable for this purpose. Other options include HaloScan and Disqus, though I don't know how to do the dirty work of integrating them into your template.

The only reason I mentioned Blogger was because SezWho was compatible with it. I'll check out HaloScan and Disqus. Thanks for the suggestion!

Check out hotscripts.com They have a few PHP and Perl based scripts that essentially plug a comments system into non blog websites.

Not sure how that would mesh with sezwho though.

Blogger is really pretty weak as a comment engine, and even so, as with any other blogging software, the comments are tied to the posts, so no post in the system = no comments in it either.

Yeah, I was wondering how Blogger ties-in with posts. You're probably right that comments wouldn't work outside their system.

Thanks for the hostscripts link. I'll check out what they have.
