While my head says no, my heart says...well, maybe! I wrote a post about how it's hard to root with your heart when the team you love is facing seemingly unsurmountable odds. Has there been a time in your life when a team you were rooting for, or maybe even a person in your life, overcame crazy odds and pulled off a "miracle."

Here's the link to my article if you want my POV on the subject: www.broowaha.com/articles/5323/game-5-pits-heart-against-head-for-phils-fan...

Nope. They will probably lose tomorrow.
    1. DailyBeerReview
      You gotta believe!
  2. Jaybetee
I have renewed faith now that they took Game 5. Petite pitches on short rest and Martinez looked good the last time he pitched. I think they have a shot tomorrow and if they win that then Game 7 is anyone's game. I do realize the odds of a 3 game sweep vs the Yanks is pretty slim, but holding out hope. The 2004 Sox did it!
  3. DollinNYC
    Frillies win in NYC? unlikely.
    1. dbowles1017
      they won game 1 there
    2. DollinNYC
I meant the Yanks have a possible series win tomorrow..they threw the game last night so they could win at home
    3. Jaybetee
Yanks are only rotating 3 pitchers. They have to be tired and I say the Phils jump on that and force a game 7!
    4. DailyBeerReview
Exactly, the phils won game one there and took 2 of 3 during the regular season there. For you math geniuses, that's 60% on the year so far.
  4. Theresa111
I have always liked the NYY but if it means this much to you Jay, I will root for your team to win.
    Miracles do happen ... Believe!
    1. dbowles1017
      Go carve clyde.
    2. Jaybetee
Plus rooting for the Yankees teaches kids a bad life lesson. It shows them that you can simply buy success rather than working hard for it. Any socially conscious person should be rooting for the Phils. It's the right thing to do for our kids and our country! ;p
    3. dbowles1017
      You can buy success.
    4. dbowles1017
      It's the truth
    5. DollinNYC
I agree! I was LOL'ing at your 'go carve Clyde' post
    6. dbowles1017
She hasn't done it yet! Even after she said she would.
    7. Theresa111
S**t! I just couldn't carve Clyde. I will get my sister to do it. She has carving tools. But you made me burst out laughing when I saw what you said. "Go carve Clyde." Indeed ... oh poor Clyde. He is so innocent, too.
  5. brianomaracroft
I'm still in denial. I'm counting on the White Sox to pull it out.
    1. Jaybetee
at least Ozzie is a broadcaster this year...so there's that.
  6. DollinNYC
The only reason I really care is because we have a friendly competition at work. A free drink is riding on this, as well as the opportunity to make the Philly fans wear Yankee hats when NY wins.
    1. Jaybetee
I have the same thing going here with some Cowboys fans, but our competition just involves the buying of beer...no humiliation.
    2. DollinNYC
of course, our group has agreed to wear Phillies hats in the off chance that they win.
    3. Jaybetee
everyone looks good in Phillies red!
    4. Floormodel
I have a similar bet for next year's fantasy baseball draft. If my Yankees win, he wears a Yankees jersey to the draft. If the Phillies win, I'll be sporting a Phili jersey.

      humiliation is fun....when I win
    5. DailyBeerReview
FloorModel, you keep changing your avatar, can't keep track of you Yankee fans.
  7. melindaville
    Go Phillies!!!

As a Red Sox fan, I root for two teams: the Red Sox and whoever is playing the Yankees!

BOO YANKEES CHOKE! Just like in 04! (what a fantastic memory).
    1. DailyBeerReview
good stuff melinda. I just commented on a bumper sticker that said just that a few days ago on my blog. Search "beats the yankees" and you'll find it. Go Phils.
    2. melindaville
That's great! Believe me, I am bicoastal--I have the A's on the W. Coast and the Sox on the E Coast and everyone in between rooting for your Phils.

      Go Phils Go!
  8. MidwestMom
It can be tempting to think that the Yankees pitchers will be tired, but this is the World Series. They won't be *that* tired. And, the Yanks have a far better bullpen than the Phillies.

The Phillies are going to need their bats, not just defense, to win even one.

(But I'm keeping my fingers crossed.)
    1. DollinNYC
      it's just wishful thinking...
    2. Jaybetee
even so the Yankees bullpen is not amazing by any means. Every pitcher in there is hittable. The only scary one is Rivera.
    3. melindaville
Hey MM--don't lose hope! EVERYONE counted the Sox out in 04 and they came roaring back to make history and provide the Yankees franchise with the title of "Biggest Choke in Sports History."

Such happy memories! I was at games 3, 4, and 5 at Fenway. When David Ortiz hit the winning hit in Game 5, I turned to my husband and said, "The Sox are going to win the WS." And they di.

      Good times . . . good times!

I agree with Jay--the Yankees bullpen is really nothing to write home about--other than the great Mariano Rivera, of course.
  9. newblogmogul
There is a chance that the Phillies can win but from the looks of it the Yanks wanted to finish the series at home.
    1. melindaville
Not a chance. They would have loved to have finished it last night--believe me. ANYTHING can happen in a 7 game series--look at the Red Sox blowing it on 86, the Yankees in 04, etc. etc. etc.

I think the pressure is on the Yankees to not choke it all away--the last time they did in a big situation (giggle giggle).
    2. Jaybetee
Saying that any team throws a World Series win out the window just to win at home is ridiculous. Ask anyone on that team and they'd rather be getting ready for a parade right now instead of a Game 6.
  10. HollytheHousewife
Sorry jay,but u really are just dreaming...
    1. DollinNYC
ahh the voice of reason. How many times have the Yankees won the world series?
    2. dbowles1017
Wow... I think they should give some of those away... it's only fair to share you know.
    3. DollinNYC
well they did give one to Boston..once.
    4. Jaybetee
Said of the Phils..."They love each other, love the game, love being at the park every day, love coming from behind to win (as they have 44 times)" This will just be the biggest "come from behind win" of the whole season!

I know the stats are against me, but the yankees are beatable and things change when the season is on the line. The game changes and I think going into NY with the series on the line it's anyone's game.
    5. DollinNYC
being in NYC I have heard other things said about the Phillies...
    6. Theresa111
Oh Jay, Pretty soon I am going to get Joe's upright bass and run the bowstring across the old guy. I cannot play the pity song but I can make a noisy attempt.
    7. DailyBeerReview
Holly, Derek Jeter is Unavailable. Root for the Phillies. J-Ro is just as hot.
    1. DollinNYC
Wed. night will be 27 World Series WINS!!
    2. Jaybetee
Did Steinbrenner pay you to change your logo?
    3. DollinNYC
hmm I might ask you if the Philles are paying you to wear their cap?
    4. Jaybetee
No, ma'am as far as I know I came into the world wearing a Phils cap! My mom says the brim was a bit of an issue.
  11. melindaville
I'm rooting for the Phils because I hate the Y*ankees and because Pedro is pitching. And I ♥ Pedro.
  12. DailyBeerReview
Utley for President when he's old enough!
    1. Jaybetee
After this post season, I am no longer ashamed to admit my full-on man crush on Chase Utley. I love the man!
    2. DailyBeerReview
yes, he can be senator next term, but president will have to wait.

Seriously though, what the hell does he put on his hair? he is really greasy.
  13. DailyBeerReview
Jay. Let's just forget that they won last night and think. Can the Phillies beat any team two times in a row? Of course!
    1. dbowles1017
At least you guys made things sort of interesting... Taking game 1 and all.
    2. HollytheHousewife
Do whatever makes u feel better!!!hahaha
  14. empiresportsnow
Yanks have the upper hand in the last two games. They're home, have Pettitte and CC compared to Pedro and Hamels/Haap. Read more here empiresportsnow.com/2009/11/03/yankees-home-for-game-six-of-world-series/

  24. Deray28
Seriously? No-one else is making fun of the Philies, I mean, celebrating that the Yankees won?
    1. DailyBeerReview
no one really likes the yankees, that's the reason.
    2. HollytheHousewife
      The hell u sayyyyy
  25. Jaybetee
No problem there Deray...I was mentally prepared for the loss. It's been like 30 years since a NL team has won back 2 back WS. We still had a good year and were the first NL team to win back 2 back NL championships, so I'll take that and feel good about it.

Congrats yanks fans...we'll see ya next year!
  26. HollytheHousewife
Yea u will!!! Still feels like something's missing without clemons and torrez
