Haven't seen a mountain move yet.

Believing in God is called faith.
    1. vijayanths
lol,so you took the direct meaning? Yes, it is faith I' m talking about.
  3. creemos
Actually, the "mountain" you are referring to is our "sins." They are impossible to remove by ourselves, therefore, it must be faith in Jesus Christ and His work (His Gospel) that removes that mountain.
    1. vijayanths
Oh, I thought prayers could make even impossible things possible in life.
    2. DangerMouse
Prayer is communicating with God; have a relationship. Plus prayer is more than just asking for things too. I encourage you to read the book of James if you read the bible...I should of asked that first really. Esp. the first two chapters - you'll then understand the importance of faith

I just realised that me asking you to read passages in the Bible isn't quite smart! Apologises!!!!
    3. vijayanths
      @Dangermouse

no need to apologize. You are 100% free to tell what you feel and think. This is after all for fun. May be we will share some useful information during such discussions.

I've seen brush fires turned back and strange things seemingly effecting the local weather, so why not?

But here in earthquake country, moving a mountain suddenly would cause more trouble than good! Better to move it a little at a time.
    1. vijayanths
In India we say"prayers can move mountains- prayers are so powerful that they can even move mountains.
In reality if a mountain moves I don't think it is good for any one.

I believe in a creator who is playing a very long and subtle game the rules of which are only dimly apparent to us. The trick for mankind is to stick around long enough to get into the play-offs.
    1. vijayanths
yes, I agree with you windroot.

I believe the original story about faith and mountains involves the prophet Mohamed.
Some people came to him and asked him is it true that his faith is so powerful that it can move mountains. 'Sure!' answered the prophet. The problems was that when asked to prove it no matter how he prayed no mountain came to him. 'Praise, the Lord,' said Mohamed. 'For if Allah has answered my foolish prayers and brought the mountain here it surely would have crushed us to death.' And from then on whenever Mohamed needs the mountain he goes to it himself instead of praying ot God to move it closer to him.

this is another useful information form you AlexGreat, thanks.

the only thing prayers give imo is hope and faith that our situation can/will be better.
Do i believ in God? well some days I don't but most of the time, I hope He indeed is out there doing more than watch.
    1. vijayanths
If prayers give you hope, it is good, is n't it?
    1. vijayanths
      I believe it too.

Biblically it's faith that is described as moving mountains. And in that context, it's describing how our issues/problems, hardships, temptations, sin etc look as big as mountains if we focus on them. So then faith in that illustration is keeping our focus and trust in God, who then looks bigger than these "mountains". Faith in God to remove those "mountains" aka faith moves mountains.
To simply believe, "Hey my prayer can move this mountain" is impossible. There's no chance of that mountain shifting just b/c wyou addressed it. Believing in God is not to rely on our own strength, but His. Still, we are not talking about actual mountains here like Creemos said.

To put prayer in here would have to be an act of faith rather than the other way round b/c faith is the key and should always come first.

    There's my 2 cents...
    1. Ajah
      AGREED!!!
    2. vijayanths
Believing in God is not to rely on our own strength, but His, this line is very good, DangerMouse.

If by 'prayers' you mean 'high explosives'...then yep!
    1. vijayanths
yes it explodes your sins and problems.

I am not religious, but I do think that a strong belief in something gives one strength and can even help the body heal. So, I've no doubt that a belief in prayer can improve the lives of those who do pray.

    You mean an earthquake?
    1. vijayanths
That's what exactly I say.intarso, you are practical.

    Incredible

Sometimes I think that way but this LITTLE mystery keeps me thinking
  14. idealpinkrose
I think God use a parable when He said that. Others follow the bible literally like carrying the cross on Holy Week because He said carry my cross.
    1. vijayanths
We are raised with God belief by our parents. But you can think independently when you become an adult,is itn't?
    2. DangerMouse
You mean like literally carry a tangible wooden cross?!?
  15. vijayanths
    @DangerMouse
yes if you are a christian. There are many other religions too. I'm a hindu.
    1. DangerMouse
I'm aware now... I'm not usually this reckless and ignorant
    2. LynneaUrania
It might even apply to others too if one must take it literally. A cross was never an exclusively Christian symbol. And I've known many an occultist with a rosary, cross and all.

    @DangerMouse & Lynnea
thanks for sharing your valuable thoughts.
