One can not go wrong with AC/DC. Back in Black is one of the greatest albums ever released.

On another note for all you metal heads out there, prepare to feel old, Headbangers Ball just turned 20...

Don't much care for Metal, but you can't go wrong with Metallica.

unless you forget to genuflect every time Lars Ulrich's name is mentioned and then immediately offer up a prayer to never listen to music you didn't pay full retail price for...

      Ehhh!

      Whatayah do?

Ozzy bit off the head of a dove, yet he had his own reality tv series.

      Ha! Go figure.

For a rough top ten of metal albums:

Slayer (just about anything, my favourites include Divine Intervention and of course, Rein in Blood).

Megadeth (can't go wrong with Holy Wars or Countdown to Extinction).

Death (Symbolic. Anything by Death is light years ahead of anything else).

W.A.S.P (just about anything goes. You can try starting with First Blood... Last Cuts, a greatest hits)

    Morbid Angel (everything)

    Vital Remains (Dechristianize)

    Moonsorrow (Blood verses)

    Wintersun (Wintersun)

    Therion (Theli)

    King Diamond (Conspiracy)

Some other honourable mentions which are not really popular outside of Europe include Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Rhapsody/Rhapsody of Fire and Dragonforce. These are more power metal based bands, so they are more accessible than the others. I like classic heavy metal and I don't care much for the Slipknots of the world. Some newer experimental guys like Meshuggah is also pretty interesting. If you want some reviews of albums, check out my blog.

I'm not such a big metal head, but I would recommend Tool.

I'm not sure how to classify Tool, but it's not metal.

Is red hot chili peppers metal? Whatever, I just find their music awesome. I wouldn't part with my Blood Sugar Sex Magic album...
    1. flamingpoodle
No. Never was, never will be.

Blood, sex, sugar magick is a great rock album. I quite like One Hot Minute, which is one of the few real jam albums that broke into the mainstream of the last 20 years. Not metal though. I always found R.H.C.P to be a poor man's Faith No More.

The Peppers are very much not metal. I'll second Metallica, as long as you go back to the late 80s for it. Hubby is much more of a metalhead than I, but I'm trying to think of some folks he likes. Celtic Frost? I'm having a block. I've long mocked his Manowar collection, but I'll admit to not turning it off when it pops up on the CD player. It's practically oldies by now, if speed metal can age.
    1. flamingpoodle
Metallica hasn't been metal since 1986's '.. and Justice for All'.

Celtic Frost is very, very eclectic. Most of it is very influential on the black metal scene. Some of it is definitely metal, some of it is more goth. They're in a league of their own.

Manowar is power metal. You don't get more metal than that
    2. Sway
Manowar is ok, you might like Himsa, Caliban, or Arch Enemy. Im sure you have heard of Black Dahlia Murder, they really good. Unearth was pretty good their first two albums, you might like them. If you want the really heavy stuff try out Dimmu Borgir. And ohh, check out Heaven Shall Burn.

I don't know what metal is, but Led Zepelin,Black Sabbath are mine

Hmm... depends what kind of metal you'd want to listen to. I'd recommend:

    Tristania (gothic metal)
    Charon (gothic metal)
    Nightwish (symphonic metal)
    Sirenia (gothic metal)
    Kyuss (stoner metal)
    Orange Goblin (stoner/doom metal)
    Fireball Ministry (stoner/doom metal)
Katatonia (now more depressive rock but still good)
    Alice in Chains (heavy metal/grunge)
Metallica (old stuff was thrash, new stuff rock)
    Opeth (progressive metal)
    Pantera (thrash metal)
    Agalloch (atmospheric folk metal)
    Amesoeurs (black metal)
    Mortifera (black metal)
    Turisas (symphonic/folk metal)
