I give my son sweets,ice-creams and chocolates once in a while but my husbands is against this.He is saying this because my son's two front teeth have cavities.

He feels that sweets are bad for children. I dont know what to do when my son request for sweets once in a while. I feel bad to say "No" to him. My son's brushing habbit is good.

Need some suggestions from all of you

It does pay in the long term for a child to not develop a taste for sweets or sweet foods. Too much sweets could harm a person's health and spoil one's taste for culinary adventures.

Too much of something for a child could spoil his personality in the long run.

U only live once,1 treat a day doesn't hurt anything. Just make sure he brushes @ least 2xs a day.

Of coarse, don't let him not be a kid. I'm mean that in the most "not trying 2 tell u how 2 raise ur kid way"

We call sweets "sometimes foods". You can have them... sometimes rather than all the time. We don't make a big deal out of it; I think that can backfire in a lot of kids. My friend was like that in school. His mom wouldn't let him eat anything "unnatural", so when we'd walk to the 7-11, he'd stock up on the nastiest crap they sold

I think a lot of parenting is a balancing act and you pick and choose your battles. My son has dessert every night... provided he eats his dinner and has done his chores. Dessert tends to be something sweet, but he's picked fruit on occasion. As for brushing, if he brushes well and still has cavities, check with your dentist. Kids can have "weak enamel" which makes them more prone to cavities.

I have also had this in my mind. What if we refuse to give him and he tries to get it from else where, may be from his cousins, uncles or aunts.
