Yes, you can. It's your blog.

    [Is it frowned upon?]
    Who cares?
    1. Friday13
      Indeed.
  2. ekim941
    Yes you can.

You may find that you will lose some readership if you do. You will want to decide what type of audience you want to have before you decide to drop an F-bomb on your blog.

Profanity may be funny but only to certain readers.
    1. sharpodue
its cos im ranting about the anti-social bellends in Britain thats all, i dont know how well wankers or F-bombs will go down.

i wont be dropping any C's so no need to worry.
    2. ekim941
My Mom used to day that profanity shows a lack of intelligence so I choose not to use it.
    3. vmaster
      C's? ... please, do tell.
  3. ThriftShopRomantic
You can, sure-- many bloggers do, it's a part of their online character.

I actually try to avoid it because I think it's more challenging for me to write without it. I'm hoping that it will hold up well over time, that way.
  4. voodooKobra
Sometimes profanity is unnecessary. Never be inane or insipid in your writing. However, should the situation call for it, drop whatever class of -bomb you need.
    1. MarkPogue
That's where I stand also. Sometimes the situation calls for it...sometimes not.
  5. chrisskoyles
I'll swear on the rare occasion when there isn't anything else that will suffice, but it's probably a sad state of affairs if you can't get through a couple of paragraphs without effin and jeffin.
  6. jafabrit
It's your blog but as others said it may put some off, but then again it may attract others. I suppose it depends on what type of reader you want or if you care. I am general agreement as the other commentators here.
    1. sharpodue
i dont really want to, cos i always like to express myself in other ways but its just the type of people im writing about dont really deserve anything more.
    2. ekim941
Then you can beat them in a more intellectual capacity.
    3. jafabrit
I understand what you mean, but I agree with ekim, there are ways to describe those type of people that is much more cutting than a swear word. Perhaps, dare I say it, using a cliche
  7. rajf9598
sometimes it's called for, sometimes it's just inappropriate. and for some people it's just a natural way to express themselves. it's for you to decide how you want to express yourself. like evrybody else said, it's your blog, go about it how you see fit.
  8. CreativeJunkie
In real life, I have a potty mouth. On my blog, I will swear on occasion, but only if I think it fits with my blog post.

I absolutely can't stand it when bloggers swear just for the sake of swearing or for shock value.
    1. sharpodue
oh it wouldnt be swearing for swearings sake because I think that shows a lack of vocab or intelligence so it wouldnt be for that value at all
  9. sellytapgirl
I choose not to, but its your blog and you can do whatever you want (as logn as its legal...) on it
  10. cranelegs
    no f#%kin' way.
  11. dosox
I swear it in every line of my post. but no one really knows where it is
  12. JanelleV
I prefer not to.. I don't really think it's appropriate for my blogs.
  13. poisonapplesauce
one of my blogs is 99% profanity. I have a very bad mouth
    1. dosox
      relax... :-)
    2. poisonapplesauce
that blog is a PA Hardcore blog, if I didn't swear it would not be natural. We all swear there, and if someone is offended by it then that is not the type of reader we wanted in the first place. It's a subculture thing, not a mcdonalds play house. Besides the f word is the most diverse word in the english language. I have a shirt that says f**k you, you f***in f**ck. (only editing for the alleged pg 13 level here) and I think that is a fine example of how useful that word is
  14. henchmanmike
I do. Rarely. My first blog I cursed a lot. But I cut down. Cussing is like smoking to me.
  15. Theresa111
I really do my utmost to keep it clean. Because of the eclectic mix of readers, I wouldn't want anyone to be offended.
  16. Shiley
If I wanted to I could. I choose not to cuss on any of my blogs. My son is getting the grasp of words and I don't want him reading it. Before kids I had a massive potty mouth so it is a strong effort for me to keep myself from using them.
  17. tiggyblog
If it's the right word in the right context, then yes. But I swear less in my blog than I do in real life.

I like the f word, it's one of the most powerful words in the English vocabulary.
    1. Hangingonahyphen
Yes, my sentiments exactly. I used it once the motherf thing because it was necessary for the character on my short story (Scarlet Moon) but I was honestly feeling uncomfortable with it. In real life I don't swear. It's just not a habit I developed thank god, but I can live with people swearing as long as it is not directed at me or someone I care for.
  18. Arcticulates
No! I chose not too, but I don't swear in my real life either, I choose other more descriptive ways of getting my point across.

Swear words are so boring! And expected!

My blog is written for all ages, and I try to respect that aspect of it.
  19. melindaville
It's my blog. I can throw as many 'F-Bombs' as I want.

But cussing isn't that effective unless you do it very carefully--sparingly. A well placed cuss word can bring a point home--but not if you do it too often.
    1. RTBjr73
@mtyler77- Agreed, I find that sites such as yours, if you were to drop the F-bomb, it would really get your point across at that exact moment.

For me personally, My sports blog, I can not ever remember using profanity. I want that site to be read by children as well as adults.

For my Rubbish blog, all bets are off. It is solely intended for the adult audience.
  20. drjay1966
Allowed by who? Frowned upon by who?

Admittedly, I've tried to cut down on unnecessary profanities, simply because I've realized that they turn away some people who might otherwise enjoy the blog. However, if the best word in a given circumstance happens to be the f-word, I won't hesitate to use it.
  21. Sebastyne
I don't think about it. If my "cussing" offends someone, so be it. I only use profanities in maybe one post a month, but I have never stopped to question whether I should or not.
  22. DrowseyMonkey
I blog the way I speak ... I don't really swear a lot in "real" life and I find when people use a lot of it in their blogs (and in real life) I get bored pretty quickly. It's like they need a thesaurus or something ... once in a while for a rant or for humour maybe, but overall I find it a bore and not very effective.
  23. whiteline
I've read that to much of it and some search engines will put the "adult filter" on your blog thus reducing your chances of showing in search results... I have no idea what too much is from an SEO perspective though.
Yes I swear on my blog - depending on the post.
    1. earthlingorgeous
and yup that is a good idea if you cuss too much add adult filter so you don't get banned or something for violating TOS
  24. CrystalRaven
No, I don't in real life so why would I on my blog.
  25. earthlingorgeous
Yup you can and I do sometimes (mild cuss lol but wait is saying idiot, stupid, fart, effing, nucking futs etc a cuss? ) especially when I am PMSing. hahaha!

It's your blog, unless your platform bans you for cussing too much hehe! If others are offended well well that's their problem it's your blog anyway
  26. vmaster
Fuck yeah I can swear on my blog!
  27. kat822
I second that fuck yah vmaster, I use weekend words all the time
  28. kden
Good question Sharpo. I guess it does depend on the content of the post. I use words like damn and hell but just don't like the f word at all. I will use variations of the f word but not the word itself.
    1. sharpodue
Thank you! I do try my best :p!

I havnt dropped the f bomb yet, arsehole bastard and tosser is about as strong as iv got so far i cant see myself getting too strong tho
  29. annaswan
I had really intended to keep my new blog as professional as possible, and steer clear of the curse words. Then I decided to do a post on Gonzo journalism. A fan and advocate of the writing style commented in TRUE Gonzo fashion and let it ALL hang out! lol How could I not approve that? He was just going Gonzo - it was raw, it was powerful, it was genius. So - the curse words hit the page. And judging by the comments that followed - the readers loved it
  30. Profitimo
I dont think your audience are looking forward to a swearing blog.
  31. luvikavi
You can since its your blog, but remember that your blog reflects who you are. If you can swear in a tasteful way, it may work with your readers. Again, some readers may love it, some may not.
    1. blackzero85
      agreeable. ^^b
  32. tessybear
I could swear on my blog but don't as I prefer it to be totally family friendly so anyone can go and see it. I have no problem with swearing myself, but I know quite a few people who are offended by it, even though its totally common place and generally accepted these days.
  33. bradhart
People should quit trying to be something they aren't. If you swear, cuss, curse, use profanity and it is who you are by all means do it on your blog because your blog is a reflection of you. If you don't do it in your physical world a reader can tell, because it doesn't sound right if they read it aloud. Unnatural sounding F*cks make you look trite and pathetic because it was something you had to think about saying.

so true, so so so true
  34. faithsju243
I may let a couple fly on my blog from time to time. When I write my post I try to use a conversational tone as if I am speaking to one of my close friends, so you will find little faith-ism so to speak which are basically my combinations of different words that don't really exist.

Pretty much everything goes on my site I like the idea of free speech. If you don't like it, don't read it.
  35. kdawg68
I swear on my blog that I will not curse (aka "cuss").

Anybody else think of Mike Tyson's original mentor whenever they hear "Cuss" (he was "Cus", but still).
  36. mikodragonfly
I'm not going to waste my time and read a blog that's 90% expletives but sometimes, the occasion just demands that I let one or two fly. I try not to be too apologetic about what I post on my blog as long as it's coherent- it would ruin the authenticity otherwise.
  37. TOMDDiary
I respect my blog visitors too much to cuss on my blog. Depending on how a comment is make to a post, I may remove the cuss words or remove the entire comment. I don't need to use cuss words to get a proper effect on my blog.

In real life, I mostly curse when I'm alone. Occasionally I will curse on my blog. For the F word, I type F&#@ so as not to offend anyone. I only use curse words for comedic effect on my blog.
  39. juliegaffey
I think it depends on who you want your readers to be and how you want them to feel. I'd like to write about anything I want...but really don't want to offend my co-workers or my in-laws if they happen to stumble on my site, so I keep it clean"ish." The worst I've said so far was "crap" but I don't think that counts, I really didn't want to say what bears actually do in the woods. I digress, it is your blog, do what you want....but how do you want your readers to feel? If you don't care, the F&#@ em'!
  40. nultygoestopartick
Sometimes it embellishes the story so yes
  41. celticmusicfan
I try to avoid doing that no matter how i am tempted. well of course my other blog doesn't and will never have that because it deals with traditional music.
  42. sensitivemuse
I swear a lot on mine. It's good for emphasis
  43. Webster12
    yea sure. It's my blog.
  44. WhiteSockGirl
Can you swear on your blog?
Yes. I have a personal blog; I do regard my blog as pure self expression, so my blog reflects me, the bad, the good, the swearing.

    Is it allowed?
On my blog it is allowed!

    Is it frowned upon?
    Who cares?

What do you think of it?
I think too many bloggers are worrying about 'what others are thinking',..
