It's Canada Day on July 1st, and MacLean's magazine just published a few articles on how Canadians differ from Americans ... and of course I did a post about it too.

Here are the highlights:

We have more adventurous sex & less teen pregnancy
We're healthier
More of us live common law
We travel the globe more

The difference in teen pregnancy stats is remarkable. The article I read recently quoted that Canada's is 1/4 that of the US.

"As of 2005, the median family in Canada was worth US$122,600, according to Statistics Canada, while the U.S. Federal Reserve pegged the median American family at US$93,100 in 2004."

That's odd, the median family income in the US in 2006 was only $48,201.00, almost half of what this article quotes it to be in 2004? Hmmm...

Well, what you quoted didn't actually say 'median income', it said 'median worth'. I think it's more than median income - I'm guessing it's either net worth, or a combo of net worth and a per-capita measure of collective social services and utilities etc provided by the government. Or it might be a per-capita measure of the GNP or something.

Oh! Well then that makes more sense.

Canadians seem to be pretty cool people, so I am not surprised at these statistics.

Honestly, all of the ones I have met who venture down here are extremely nice and friendly, but we do make fun of their driving hehe.
    3. DrowseyMonkey
Of our driving? Do we drive funny too? LOL
    4. offendedblogger
Haha I have no clue what it is, I think Canadians are just fair game and are no better or worse at driving than the locals. We just need someone to make fun of because Americans are mean like that!

WOW! Thanks for this info useful to me and Happy Canada day in advanced...

I can't get over the adventurous sex life though, is it really true?

Canada as of what I learned is one of the best place to live though.
    1. DrowseyMonkey
well, as I said in my post ... they didn't consult me for that particular survey
    2. earthlingorgeous

    3. earthlingorgeous
yeah DM that's what I've heard NS is a pretty place. See you in NS in the near future?

ooopsy wrong place should be down there:D

You Canadians are silly.....with your stupid lower infant mortality rates, lower teen pregnancy rates, your dumb lower poverty rates, higher education rates and standards, dopey lower murder rate etc

You guys are so dumb (and Fox news reminds us of this) that with your socialized-style health care, I bet there must be sick people dying all over the streets and you probably have to travel 100 miles to even find a doctor. And with your stupid gun restrictions, I bet only the big, mean criminals have guns and I bet the average Canadian is afraid to even leave her house. I bet your house is being busted into every night.

    Stupid dumb Canada.
    1. DrowseyMonkey
lol ... yeah, Fox news wasn't even available here until last year I think. Gotta go, my apartment is being broken into
    2. earthlingorgeous
LOL DM are you living in the Slave Lake area? I was told there leave your stuff in the car and in less than 5 minutes they are gone, compared to NS they can even leave the keys inside the car. LMAO!
    3. DrowseyMonkey
I live near Toronto ... my family is from Nova Scotia tho. It's beautiful there.

Where I live is very safe, I never lock my car. I do lock my door to my apartment tho, altho a few times I've forgotten and got up in the morning & realized it was unlocked.

"I bet your house is being busted into every night." - actually people don't lock their doors where I live. cars are left running when people run into the store and kids run free without much worry here in Nova Scotia Canada!

This of course isn't typical of all of Canada.

Its so hard to generalize on this topic.

But I am Proud to be Canadian, eh!

I once had the good luck to be in Montreal at the beginning of July and we caught an amazing fireworks show with classical music. We didn't know anything about the holiday. Just blind luck.

There's a real country called Canada??? I thought it was a made up one like Utopia, Lilliput or Belgium.
    1. offendedblogger
It is real, but I didn't believe it either until I snuck over and back into Canada once when I lived next to the border.

Funny, it looked almost exactly the same as Montana, who knew!

No wonder Canadians are fat, happy, and sassy. They have untold wealth because they are sensible about developing their natural resources. They are the number one exporter of oil to the U.S., and a big exporter of natural gas. Here, in the U.S., while we're sitting on bigger deposits of oil than the Middle East combined, the politicians won't let us develop these deposits.

You can set low standards, then consistently fail to achieve them. That's what we do in the U.S.
    1. DrowseyMonkey
Actually, according to the health survey less of us are fat, lol. But I still represent for the chubby community

But to your real point ... I don't understand why we rely on middle east oil ... it's very confusing to me. Well, it probably has to do with money I guess.
    2. aningeniousname
Hey always remember men like chubby women, but not Canadians, sadly.
    3. janeycatte
No, it's us Aussies who are the fat ones now...
