I just blogged about this very thing today. I just want drugs. Not really, but I'm that desperate.

Yeah I know what that is like being a chronic insomniac myself. Establishing a strong circadian rhythm...am exercise and light, and no caffeine after 4pm are the tips that have helped me the most.

I plot stories in my head. Have been doing that since childhood.

I get in my "sleeping position," close my eyes, relax all my muscles and then start "storytelling." It seldom takes more than a couple of minutes for me to drop off.

Wow that is a great tip! Thanks for sharing it

I found that by cutting caffeine out of my diet completely, except for a single cup of coffee that I drink when I get up in the morning, I improved my ability to sleep.

I always have problems with my mind not turning off, but it usually helps to do something completely mind numbing before bed.

Getting the TV out of the bedroom was a big help for me. Generally re-associating the bedroom in my brain with sleep was all it took.

I find that I usually sleep quite well unless I am worrying about serious issues.
Then I find I will wake in the early hours. to combat this, in my head I imagine things and have about three scenarios:
    1. Is to imagine I am walking through a wood in the spring time...I imagine the trees, the sound, the smell. I concentrate on imagining the dew of the grass and what it looks like, the sun a little mist....
    2. Another one is the night sky and I conjure up all the stars one by one and then give it a beautiful big full moon and concentrate really hard on trying to turn it into the sun.
    3. The final one is if I am very disturbed and struggling with my imagination, then I simply conjure up the sea and watch the waves coming in and going out ......... coming in and going out....
You get the idea ;)A phsycologist would probably have a field day, LOL

Chrissy, I have several friends who are psychologists. They haven't figured out their insomnia either!

Nothing works for a real insomniac. If simple remedies work it means it was just stress-related insomnia or triggered off by something that upset the metabolism.

well just shut my eyes. If it's not working then Xanax or stesolid is very helpfull

I take a Paxil before bed. It's the only thing I've ever tried that helps me sleep. There are some annoying side effects, but it beats not sleeping.

Great sleep tips. I definitely notice that I have more trouble sleeping if I eat chocolate right before bed (which is sad because I love my chocolate). I've recently had trouble sleeping because I end up with my brain spinning a mile a minute mulling over updates to my blog and possible blog posts. Who knew blogging could cause insomnia? Sometimes I wonder if I should just get up and blog, but I'm too lazy and too attached to my sleep. Usually I just lay there and start counting in my head while thinking about relaxing specific body parts. Eventually my brain gets bored enough to fall asleep.

i concentrate for a minute and in that minute, i lost my presence and falls into dark sleep.
this is the best thing or another way is to remember your love one with the thought of giving your soul to him.
practice this it will sure help

Just do a little bit of exercises ..take two glass of beer before going to bed.All bedroom light must be switched off(advised by a professor while I was in Italy for an official duty). Also very important ..NEVER watch TV till late night while you are on bed..Your body will be programme to stay up..
