My husband doesn't feel comfortable with me putting my mug (picture) on my blog so I chose the closest resembling cartoon I could find. I'm curious...how many of you dislike seeing a cartoon instead of the "real deal"?

I like your avatar. You are probably as cute though so either one is fine with me.

I am OK with whatever someone wants for their own avatar, but I am partial to pictures of the actual person. Gives a face to go with the commentary.

Your avatar are a good 'fit' with your blog, and, apparently, your persona.

I use that closeup of my right eye because it is unusual, readily identifiable, and 'personal.' I've found that it's an uncommon 'portrait' avatar/photo that stands out at small sizes.

And, cartoons make an excellent choice for an avatar (I'm not talking about established cartoon characters here, but 'cartoon' in the wider sense of a stylized picture). They're generally much more identifiable than photos.

And, a cartoon can illustrate a blogger's personality in ways that a photo can't.

Your avatar is distinctive. And we can all tell right away who it is that's posting. So-- it works well!

I like photos of the actual person, but caricatures and cartoons (the kind you make online) are good too.

I have some of each, and a few random photos I've taken here and there, on various blogs and forums.

I would have done a photo if I'd had one on my computer. Didn't, so used this. Now it might be hard to change.

I like the idea of using a real photo, too, and put one on my web site. But in an a forum situation, it gets too easy for people to make personal criticism just because they might not like what a poster says.

I use my real pic in here...but on my blog I have a goofy cartoonish pic. No coherent thought as to why I guess.

I don't think it really matters!
