I recently wrote a case study of Ashley Qualls, an inspiring 17 year old high school dropout who made over $1 million dollars with her website. She currently makes $70K a month and her site gets 60 million page views per month as well.

Here's the link:

Have fun reading it.

Wow. I loved that article, both of them, yours and the Fast Company one. That's the kind of thing that my blog wants to inspire, how to create something out of virtually nothing, but offer that hope to everyone, not just people online. Although, online seems to be the way to do it!

Thanks so much for that. I even sent it to my teenage daughter who lives on MySpace!

I'm going to link to it in a future entry on my blog, if you don't mind.

I don't mind at all, purdles. Ashley is a real inspiration, considering how she turned a part-time hobby (designing layouts for friends) into a million dollar business.

I love how in your article you state, you have ideas and strategies on how she can "improve her income" as if $70,000 monthly is not quite enough for Ashley. Gotta love the web. Another interesting thing about this story is how Myspace has made millionaires out of other people besides the founders. The great equalizer.

You can always make more money with any website if you really want to...Ashley has a great site and a loyal audience but I see so much more she can do with it.

it was bitter me talking. but technically and logically speaking yes! there are untapped monetization methods still available to her and her site. amazing but true.

such as the (direct ad route) you mention in your article, that is major money potential for the site. not to mention the exposure it would bring in to advertisers, as her traffic is massive.

I really want to add, that for those of you who don't know MAKI or are not regular readers of his blog, this guy has loads of solid information if you're wanting to learn the art and science of blogging. Lots of good stuff.

Well, I'm going to be brainstorming tonight!! It's these simple ideas that are blowing up and you're just kicking yourself! My daughter designs MySpace layouts so I sent that to her to inspire her to do SOMETHING!

I'll be checking out makimaki regularly!

Awesome article. Ashley's got a great look and feel to her website -- it's no surprise that she's doing so well for herself
