Cash for Clunkers ...a Real Clunker

The cash for clunkers program has given taxpayers a valuable lesson...
The lesson can be taken two ways.
1. How to get our county in more debt
2. Or how to put ourselves in more debt
Either way we lose.
I recently read of 5 different mistakes that were made with this incentive program and decided to share this

What is this "cash for clunkers" program to which you refer, please? And, which country are you referring to as "our country"?
If this is an American program aimed at assisting the poor to get old vehicles that pollute off the roads, and replace them with energy efficient vehicles then I cannot imagine why you are objecting to such a small expenditure of tax dollars for such a good purpose. In comparison, the Bush Administration(s) managed to rack up the largest military budget ever in America, while simultaneously creating the highest ever poverty rate. -
tt it is the USA. It is for buying back cars that are not energy efficent so you can buy a new one and go int debt over it-
Are citizens compelled to be in this program sell their old vehicles, purchase new vehicles, and go into debt to do so? Is it a federal program or a state sponsored program or a combination of the two?

it is the federal government. It is moe of a personal decision to join but if you had a carrot dangled in your face to get you new car for turning your old one in then people are going to do it and go into debt for it with out that much thinking

I don't jump for carrots. I'm an educated, cynical and eccentric iconoclast. Anyone can attempt to offer me a bribe or an incentive to go into debt and get a zero response from me. However, if I believed that it was in my best interest and the planet's best interest for me to enter such a program, and I was positive I could make the payments, and the interest rate was not usurious, then I might do so.
Edit: I live in British Columbia, Canada. British Columbia's BC Scrap-it program (www.scrapit.ca/) takes an approach that many people think gets it right on the environmental front -- and the economic one too. -
it is a Keynesian scheme to reduce energy consumption/emissions, and move cars off the lots.
I even heard that Obama is FROM Keynesia!

Thanks for posting that and expanding my awareness. I didn't click through on the link in the OP because this is not a Shameless Blog Promotion thread. However, I went on the net and searched the news for Canadian cash for clunker information.

timetheif ; It is amazing how you won't click through as you state this is a shameless blog promotion?
When in fact what is in this blog is direct from many of the sites you are probably trying to research. Why don't you get off the "blog promotion" kick you have and really educate yourself in many areas. A true educated person will get their hands on everything they can and read throughly and then make an informed decision. From the start of this blog you have done nothing but ask questions, thus you have not researched much of this at all. Plus this is referring to American issues that do not correspond with how Canada does things. -

I actually work for one of the dealers in this program. I think the idea and what they are trying to do is great. On many levels. It was and is the way they went about it that could of used some fine tuning. But in all if the goal is for a better planet and people do not just buy because... And make sure they can afford then this should work out for the best in the long run.-

An incentive plan that gives car buyers cash for scrapping gas-guzzlers and buying more efficient models sounds like a great idea. What's not to like? By doing this more cars have sold at dealerships and old cars are now off of the road. This means more people get comfortable buying a new cars! That helps the economy so much! It also helps the environment when people are driving "Green" cars. The total money spent so far on this program is = to 1 F-18 Jet. We are not at a huge loss....
