Catalina Island, Vacation Resorts, Do they live up to the hype?

So, I have a decision to make as to whether to go to Catalina Island this weekend or not. Have you ever been to a vacation resort, and is it all that, or just a lot of hype? I don't care much about the beach, nor do I care about restaurants or hotels. I'm more about experiencing the local flavor, but I don't know if there is going to be any of that there.

What have been your experiences of vacation resorts and resort islands?

    I've sailed to and stayed offshore of Catalina, but never stayed at a resort there--or anywhere. For me the Catalina flavor was like tourist trappie.

      Yeah, I'm kind of leaning against it since that's the vibe I get too, atleast from all the photos and e-tours and stuff.
