Not that I'm really looking for help on this, I just want someone to do it all for me LOL.

But My blog's been down for 48 hours since I decided to change servers!!! LOL its not because the new server has bad service....its because I'm an idiot!

Just when I thought I was smart and figured out how to upload my zip full of files, they still want me to create a database and upload it LOLOL. They speak greek.

Anyways....just venting. Falling asleep and napping would be WAAAAY easier than figuring out how to upload a database.

Do you mean you want to set up your blog?
I could have done everything for you, if you have sign up the Hostgator account from my blog.

Login to your Cpanel and click the mYsql Database than name your database- next choose a user name and the database and assign all privilege.

Now note down the database name, user name and password.

Supply them in your Wp-config.pgp file That's all

Hmmmm too bad you didn't tell me this earlier. I did sign up with hostgator. Their customer service is awesome, its my old host that is sucking LOL. The database they gave me is apparently empty so I'm waiting on them to send me the correct one.

I'm coming up on THREE DAYS downtime now. Totally frustrating.

I will come to you next time!

Sorry to hear you've run into snags! It is frustrating when something that seems like it should be so easy turns into a nightmare. I hope you get it taken care of real soon!

Yah its frustrating since I'm kind of a techno dummy LOL. For some people changing servers appears seamless!

Today is the 4th day of downtime and the old host won't even answer my emails anymore. Do I just bend over and take this one up the tailpipe, and accept that its all gone?

You can access to your control panel right?, I think you got the login username and password. I don't think your host will likly upload files, create database for you. You got to do it by urself or hire someone or get help from someone you trust.

Oh I did all that myself. But the database in my old cpanel was empty so I HAD to rely on the old host to provide it to me. Now they've given me the wrong one, an old one that stops at June 2.

I give up and think I'm going to point my blog back to the old server.

Your blog is back! Happy blogging!

Yah its back up but the old host didn't provide the correct database.....notice the last post is June 2? UGH.....I feel like throwing something.
    2. weblogian
Don't you have a backup copy of your database?
    3. JamCan
I have a backup zip file of all my files. Through the old host I had no access to the actual database. The files are no good without the database...blog posts are kept in the database.

I have a doubt you have lost all your posts, your database should be exported or back up before switching server.

Man I just tried posting an update and I can't even post in Wordpress anymore. They really screwed up my blog.

What happened now? What is the problem? Can u see ur dashboard? Why don't u upgrade to new wordpress and use ur old database backup and config files.
    1. JamCan
Yea I can get into my dashboard but can't make a new post. It won't allow me to post. I have NO idea what's wrong with my WP now. When I try and make a post it says I need to save it as a draft first. So I do that and the post disappears.

Also the database my old host provided is outdated, it only contains posts up to June 2 so I'm missing 1.5 months worth of posts.

I don't want to upgrade or do anything til I know everything is good and functioning properly.

Check the permissions of your directories via ftp client, especially wp-content folder.
it is a problem of ur database only.

I'll try but all that is greek to me LOL. I'm not very technically inclined. This stuff is hard.
  9. techhgyan
No it is really easy. Use filezilla or fireftp firefox icon, login using given ip address and username and password, nd check the folder under root directory and change the file permission to 755.

Thanks but I'm not sure its that easy. I actually hired a professional this weekend to try and sort it all out and even he is having difficulties! Its day 2 of him trying.
