Shameless blog promotion. I just finished writing an article about Chemo Brain (it's a cognitive side effect of chemo). I also share my own experience. Please pass this link to anyone you might think find it interesting

Thanks, Jack. I was not warned of it, so I originally assumed I was just being psychologically overwhelmed by everything that went on that first day. Later I found out it is common and then I did some research. Happy a Happy New Year!

Chemo brain is real. I struggled with it for a year.

I'm a stage III-B melanoma survivor. My chemo was a month of daily iv infusions followed by 11 months of 3x-a-week injections. My doc warned me about chemo brain and a high likelihood of chemo-induced moderate-to-severe depression.

Luckily my boss and coworkers were supportive. I had big problems with short-term memory and cognitive tasks. There were a handful of folks I drafted to read every email and document I wrote. They also reviewed every analysis and calculation I completed. Some days a trained monkey could've done my job better than me. It was tough at home too. My family had a hard time dealing with my chronic exhaustion and ongoing personality changes.

The good news is that my side-effects started to subside as soon as I finished treatment. I've rediscovered my sense of humor and my will to shop. I can also stay up past 7:30 at night. ;^D

Reading your blog, you seem strong and informed. As my mom says, "Forwarned is forearmed." There are many survivors in the BC community. They are very supportive.

Best of luck to you. Hugs.

You were "put through the ringer," that's for sure. Glad to hear you are done with it and reclaiming yourself. Tell your mom that she's a very wise person! Hugs back at you and thanks for sharing!

This is a nice article that you wrote. I am at the end of my chemo and definitely suffering some of the symptoms you outline, though I am not depressed -- I think it is a side effect of the many drugs. Hope so anyway -- because it means there's an end in sight. My kids keep telling me it's just old age!

Wishing you a deep and speedy recovery.
    All best wishes
    Orna

Thanks for reading my article. Now you have something (besides old age) to blame stuff on! Send me private shouts about your progress and what's next! All the best to you!

Yes, that chemo and the chemo brain that comes from it is bad stuff. We should start a chemo survivors club here. Best wishes and warm thoughts to all who know the hell of chemo. Just remember -- we did get through it!

I made a copy of your post and am giving it to a friend who I think is experiencing this, it may help her to know this information.. Thanks so much for sharing!

Glad I could help. One of my goals of this blog was to help people not feel alone and cover info that's not in the pamphlet the doctor gives out.
