I am a firm believer in the subconscious mind and the fears that lay there, most all of which were developed when we were children. As adults, many of them, we have no idea how they were formed, or even remember when they started, but yet they have so much control on our lives today.

I was terrified of lobsters-- they look liked cockroches, and mickey mouse-- it looked like one big damn rat when I was five.

shop mannequins really scared me, also the cracks in the wall in my bedroom! Funnily enough, the smell of brand new tyres at the tyre fitters too!

"Just wait until your father gets home!!!!"

That still gets me to this day.

I recall as a small kid being terrified of falling through the cracks of the boardwalk at the shore.

Haha -- ohhh my goodness.. me too! I would NEVER walk out on the pier because I saw my dad drop a lighter and it fell into the ocean.. so I was convinced the same would happen to me!

I am SO glad I'm not the only one! It was really frightening. And no amount of physics demonstrations (or candy shops on the pier) were reassuring.

I had a dream as a kid that I'd fallen into a pile of slugs....hate them to this very day. Oh yeah, and frogs.

I still have a thing about under the bed. I think it goes back to one of my first cats... she used to wait underneath my bed and attack my feet when I got too close. And I'll admit, my bathtub at night scares me. I think of the rotting old lady in The Shining... and I get the heebie jeebies. That and the hubby got poked by a non-existent finger through the shower curtain while in that tub... he used the other shower for months.

The images in the photos are striking and I think capture a lot of the kind of paralyzing fear we might feel in bad dreams-- even if the imagery isn't as intense.

I was really scared of Dr Who, I used to sleep under the hall table after seeing that. Amazing imagery - will have nightmares tonight!

The gasmask picture reminded me very much of a not-long-ago Dr. Who episode which was good and creepy.

I used to be scared of height. Unfortunately, I still am! Does anyone know how to overcome acrophobia?

Being unusually small & having problems with some doors, I was terribly claustrophobic. I was also afraid of the dark for many early years.
