I stumbled across this post today and thought it was a great story to share. This is a great example showing democracy at work. How kids can significantly impact the lives of others, impact the political process and make a difference. She is setting an example for us adults. If you believe in something, then do something about it. www.gardeningnude.com/gardeningnude/2009/09/children-can-make-a-difference-...

Thanks! Yes, I truly believe kids can make a huge difference in the world. Our responsibility as parents is to teach them to right from wrong - being active in our community and showing them how to care for each other is part of that. :-)

How do you think children can impact our communities?

Getting them involved in non-profit organization activities or starting their own campaign of fund-raising for a cause they believe in that has a local impact are a couple ideas that come to mind.

Yes they can, but it's also up to the parents to instill that in them.

      Very true!

A lot comes from the parents and they way they are raised.
    2. tcinvestor
That's true. Many parent don't spend enough time really getting involved with their kids.

Are parents really the only thing that influence children though?

    If Children

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate.
If children live with fairness, they learn to have faith.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with acceptance and friendship,
they learn to love the world.

It is worth remembering that children are fragile as they are. They may see the doom in life unless we realize how our actions can make or unmake them.

The beauty of children is their simplicity and compassion. That's why they can make such impacts on people and their environment.

They don't concern themselves with all the what if's? that adults do. They don't care about the political games that we do, social standing, or really what anyone thinks of them.

A child will see that X is wrong, and will then work to change X if they feel strongly about it.

    Example(s):

Littering is yucky. Pick up your trash.

    Bullying is mean. Stop it.

Kittens are cute and need to be taken care of. *Starts a movement to help stray kittehs*

They just think simple. It works. I wish we could all do that.

"The beauty of children is their simplicity and compassion"

It is also generally frowned upon when the cops beat them up for having a cause. (unlike adults, where it is an expected part of living in a "free country")

@ Anok. Much agreed. The world and humanity itself would be much better off.

@ Agit8r. Parents should have the say in whether or not they choose to reprimand and how not the government. Not to say that beating a child is acceptable at all but my generation got spankings occasionally and we turned out ok.
    3. Agit8r
perhaps I was unclear. I meant that it is expected that cops will beat adults who have a cause.
    4. tcinvestor
      Got it. Good point.

"Kids are the best!" I love this quote by Dean Winchester on an episode in Supernatural first season, episode #2.

Children have such a gift for taking steps we as adults would often feel a bit afraid about - doing the right thing!
