Discussions

Well, we have recently been discussing God. Who believes in Jesus Christ as their Saviour and if not, why not (and vice-versa)?

I believe in HIM as my Savior. I trust Him for every detail of my life. I allow Him to control and give power to my life.
  2. morgantj
If Jesus ever lived as a real man, he is dead and gone now. He didn't save me, nor can he while he is dead.
  3. nothingprofound
Why do I need to be saved? And from what? The whole idea of salvation makes absolutely no sense to me.
    1. morgantj
According to believers you inherited sin from your ancestors. So you were born a sinner!
    2. nothingprofound
I understand the reason Christians believe it and that's their business. But to me, it makes no sense.
    3. iratedog
Well that's convenient for Religions isn't it?
    4. dbowles1017
You are being saved from my evil temptations.
    5. KingsKid777
If you are confused there is a specific post on one of my blogs that explain who God is... It is CaughtInThrRush.com/who-is-god-part-2-2/ Take a read and see what you think.
  4. Rivy
The story of Jesus is one of life's stories. There are literally millions told and to be told. Today I am telling my own.

I just don't grasp the logic of how anyone can think a random Arabian man who thought too much of himself is a Saviour. Come ON people...
    1. angelshair
Random arabian:-))....would it be different if he was american?????
Not that I am christian or arabian, something in your sentence disturb me!
    2. dbowles1017
angelshair- You do know that Jesus is believed to be from that area right?
    3. angelshair
Right! And I also know that we have to be from somewhere.
But if you refered to me as a Random black woman in a discussion where my color has nothing to do, I would certainly not appreciate it, and might start thinking of you as a racist or as someone that has a problem with the color of my skin.
    4. SoftwareGal
Jesus was from West bank, yet I did not see his address yet on google earth.
    5. crazyTsu
@angel.. it's probably a good reminder that fosters good thoughts about arabians
    6. jeremyjanson
@SG: He was a Jew, however, but yes, Bethlehem is in the West Bank.
  6. LGramlich
    No. I'm not into superstitions.
  7. RoscoeAntHillz
    @ NOTHING PROFOUND:
exactly! what are we being saved from?
and what type of logical higher entity would blame us for the sins of our ancestors? really?
if thats the case, then i sure dont wanna be on this gods side, hes totally unfair and obnoxious!

and how exactly is a man suffering and dying going to save anyone from much of anything? i dont get it...

i do believe in higher powers that we dont tap into on a normal basis (that can be external or internal) but the whole christian sense of things are wacky...
  8. brianomaracroft
Just haven't grasped it myself...but to each their own.
  9. nikkis09
    Obviously I do... hehe.

Now, to all who say, "to be saved from what"... Jesus saves us from ourselves. We sin, we are far from perfect. Without Him, we are nothing. We would all be bound for hell.

You ask Him into your life, and you are saved.
    1. nothingprofound
Nikki, I respect your beliefs and I have no wish to change them. But from my perspective I don't see anything wrong with not being perfect or even with being nothing. It's fine with me.
    2. nikkis09
That's fine. I was just answering your question from a "christian" point of view.
    3. crazyTsu
Why dont you let big brother do it
  10. carsonfb
I am a Christian, but I don't think Jesus came to save us (as I am a universalist and don't believe in hell).

I think he came to teach us how to play nice with each other - something, by the way, that we still haven't figured out how to do if the news is any indication.
    1. nikkis09
I have a question for you...

You say that you are Christian, but do you really know what Christianity is? You say that you don't believe in hell. How is that? And you don't believe that Jesus came to save us.

The 3 basic beliefs of Christianity are that you believe that Jesus is God's son, He came here to save us and die on the cross, and that he rose from the dead, creating the holy spirit (father, son, and holy spirit)...

      I don't get it...
    2. carsonfb
Not all Christians believe the same way. I know many Christians who believe in universal salvation and that Jesus came to teach. Including several friends of mine who went to seminary with my wife (one of whom was one of her professors).

If it's good enough for ministers, its good enough for me.
    3. nikkis09
I mean Christianity is Christianity... all with the basic beliefs... not including those about salvation.

      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity
    4. carsonfb
There is no one Christianity with basic set beliefs. Differences include the following (and many more)

      1) premillennialism vs. postmillennialism vs. amillennialism

      2) pre-tribulation vs. post-tribulation

      3) transsubstantiation vs. consubstantiation vs. memorialism

      3) universalism vs elected salvation

      4) trinitarian vs. unitarian

There are many different Christologies. There are also numerous theologies (Liberation Theology, Process Theology, etc.).
    5. nikkis09
Yes, that is correct. There are many debates about the trinity, raptures, and all of that good stuff... but still that has nothing to do with the basic beliefs.

Christianity wouldn't be Christianity without some basics.

It's needs some solid grounds, then you work your way from there. Christianity is not a religion, but a set beliefs. Jesus is God's son. He died on the cross so we could be forgiven of sin. He rose from the dead. That's it.

The other stuff that you mentioned, nobody is ever going to agree.
    6. carsonfb
      >> It's needs some solid grounds, then you work your way from there. Christianity is not a religion, but a set beliefs. Jesus is God's son. He died on the cross so we could be forgiven of sin. He rose from the dead. That's it.

But not all Christians believe that Jesus died so that we could be forgiven of sins. I believe that all Christians do believe that Jesus died (I am not aware of anyone arguing against that), but many Christians do not believe that Christs murder was necessary.

I think that the only thing that can be definitively said is that all Christians follow the teachings of Christ in the manner that that individual understands these teachings.
  11. SoftwareGal
Err.. Jesus means Christianity, and Christianity has been formed by his followers so many years after Jesus crucifixion. So, why should I believe in Jesus since Christianity is not the idea of Jesus himself? He has no power, it is only us who believe he has the power.

Also, Jesus was born to a jew mother, which all jew believes that they are the single and only special holy bloodline of humankind. I am not jew so I can't enter the jew holy team. So? How Jesus then can help me?
    1. nikkis09
Hmm.... Well it does say that Jews are God's chosen... But not being Jewish doesn't mean that you cannot be helped.

And for Christianity, it is a "man-made" belief. I was raised that way. There are a few religions listed under "Christianity", but I am not much of a religion person... I just take what I bible gives me and I go from there... I am not up for traditions and all of that.

This thread is like giving BC herpes and should be deleted.

      No, herpes are worse.
    3. carsonfb
      I don't doubt that.
    4. nikkis09
Well... now your infected then too. You posted a reply. I think if you have nothing to say about the question, then just don't bother.
    5. MissSuzie
How do you ask for an opinion and then shoot it down. Wow!
    6. dbowles1017
      Criss Angel is Jesus Christ!
    1. nikkis09
Well we are should know that... Christianity didn't even exist in the time that Jesus was on earth.

Jesus is the great Lord from Arcturus, the ultimate white magician, the sage of sages and showed humanity what is the true potential of the human species.

("Jesus" (pronounced /ˈdʒiːzəs/) is a transliteration, occurring in a number of languages and based on the Latin Iesus, of the Greek Ἰησοῦς (Iēsoûs), itself a Hellenisation of the Hebrew יהושע (Yehoshua) or Hebrew-Aramaic ישוע (Yeshua, Joshua), meaning "YHWH rescues" or "YHWH delivers".[25] "Christ" (pronounced /ˈkraɪst/) is a title derived from the Greek Χριστός (Christós), meaning the "Anointed One", a translation of the Hebrew מָשִׁיחַ (Messiah). A "Messiah" is a king anointed at God's direction or with God's approval, and Christians identify Jesus as the one foretold by Hebrew prophets.) This is the interpretation of apparent falsification. How can a man live with such first name and last name? In fact, his name was on the other. And he came into our world not to save, but in order to show us the full potential of human capabilities. But certain persons did not like that and he was declared a criminal and executed soon. And then these same people have perverted everything and they written in the Bible that he died for the sins of mankind. Also these people invented a story about that he was the son of God and etc. Read the Bible carefully and you will find so many inconsistencies and oddities
that will be seen with the naked eye that most of this book is distorted and falsified in order that would rob us with impunity and control our minds. That`s my opinion briefly. Who wants to know more about Earth, Universe and Nature contact me, I'll be happy to share useful information with you.
  17. time2getdown
Religion especially Christianity has been responsible for the lack of human progress. One thousand years of the Dark Ages with the Spanish Inquisition and another thousand years of the church considering people to be heretics if anything went against their system of ancient politics.
The concept of Jesus is wonderful and makes for a great story to learn from, but what has stemmed from its roots has created millions of gallons of human blood being wasted for the sake of believing in him.

Every time I see the title of this post, I picture some redneck getting mad at Jesus like "Christ Jesus, your hair's always cloggin up the shower." Or, "Christ Jesus, it's December. Take off them damn flip flops and git a pair 'a boots!"

So.. what is the conclusion here?

What are the options regarding sin? Is there any other answer to sin? Did anyone every give their life for the sins of the world?
  21. Onchong
He is not only the Savior of mankind, but the greatest teacher of all time. The vast and opulent empire of the Romans who crucified Him today no longer exists, except in history books and museums, yet the teachings of Jesus Christ live on in the hearts and minds of billions of people.
  22. petalmaker1
Someone asked "So what is the conclusion here?" The conclusion is that we all need to be born-again. We all need to know Christ. Jesus Christ came to earth to take our sins upon his shoulders and die for us in a very cruel manner so that we could be redeemed if we chose to be. Jesus Christ now sits at the power of the right hand of God and acts as our advocate - so in order to pray to God, we need to pray through Jesus.
Without salvation, we cannot enter into Heaven. What must we do to be saved (from destruction) and gain eternal life?
    1. Recognize who is knocking on the door of your heart. That person is Christ! Stop running away from what we all know in our hearts is the truth.
    2. Repent and acknowledge that you have been wrong. Do a mental U-turn.
    3. Reflect on who [Jesus!] is coming into your life. He has died for the forgiveness of your sins. He will be Lord of your life, and this will demand changes.
    4. Receive Him, as His Spirit enters your life. It's as simple as saying, "Come in, Lord Jesus."
Come to the Lord with a sincere heart. "The Lord does not look at the things man looks at . . . the Lord looks at the heart" (1Samuel 16:7).
Jesus is LIFE. "Even the fool in his heart knows there IS A GOD!"
And that my dear BC friends, is the conclusion. The choice is up to us.
    1. Onchong
I say, Amen to that Sister!

To each his own opinion or belief. After reading all comments posted- I silently recited, "The Apostles'Creed" and The "Our Father". I won't risk my Roman Catholic faith for a mere discussion. Thanks fellas!
