I was messing around in my kitchen last night in a vain attempt to concoct a dish to work with the blackberry compote I made. Vanilla ice cream was getting..well...too vanilla. I found that a citrus pound cake worked out very well but instead of making a cake, I used the batter to make muffins! I love muffins.

Do you love muffins?
Do you find the shape of muffins alluring?

    I luv fried muffin tops!
    1. cookingasshole
      fried? like deep fried?
    2. Jaybetee
No. what i do is get a big muffin...like really big...and cut off the top. Then simply butter the bottom of the muffin top and fry on a skillet.

It's really good with berry muffins because the berries get all hot and squish, or chocolate chip muffins because the choc gets all warm and melty.
    3. cookingasshole
      that is an awesome idea!
    4. Jaybetee
don't you feel like a dumb f#$k for not thinking of it your damn self!
    5. cookingasshole
      I actually do...
    6. lingoslinger
Wow... That IS a good idea!
    7. FreakSmack
@jaybetee What do you do with the stumps?
    8. cookingasshole
he probably gives them to homeless people...
    9. FreakSmack
Wouldn't surprise me one bit. They are great for bread pudding. I was a baker for years when that seinfeld episode came out we were actually flooded with people wanting just the tops.
    10. cookingasshole
      that is freaking hilarious...
    11. Jaybetee
      i fry the stump too!
    12. cookingasshole
no way! both sides or just one side?
    13. Jaybetee
just the top side where it was cut
    14. cookingasshole
man...I need to get an oversized muffin tin so I can make muffins and then fry them

Muffins, yum! Any kind, especially blueberry with almond pieces. The shape always reminds me of the mushroom cloud after an atomic explosion.
    1. cookingasshole
      those sound really good

...I never thought of muffins that way
  3. dbowles1017
I love muffins, but the shape reminds me of girls wearing jeans, and a shirt too small.
    1. cookingasshole
that is a terrible mental image
    2. dbowles1017
I know. It gives muffins a bad stigma.
  4. avisiblespectrum
I made boobie muffins once. but usually I like muffins because they bake faster.
    1. cookingasshole
haha! What kind of boobie muffins?
  5. cookingasshole

    2. cookingasshole
It was tearing me apart inside
    3. FreakSmack
looks good, and you black berries go good on anything, ok so maybe not bacon
    4. cookingasshole
I bet they would go good on bacon! Good idea!
    5. FreakSmack
I don't know about the bacon, but I'd put money on it kicking ass on breakfast sausage patties.
    6. cookingasshole
      mmm...sweet meat
    7. legbamel
      No, sweet potatoes!
    8. cookingasshole
      NO sweet potatoes!!!

Hey FreakSmack - I thought you only liked peanuts LOL
    1. FreakSmack
Mainly peanuts and peanut accessories, but I like to branch out now and again

Hey Monkey on your back - I am on your site now, if I could only learn how to work the oven I might tackle blending ingredients next!
    1. cookingasshole
      yeah that knob is confusing
  9. faithsju243
I'm not a huge fan of muffins but these sound interesting enough for me to try over the weekend.
  10. legbamel
Is it really pound cake (pound of butter, pound of flour, etc.)? That stuff will kill you, but you'll enjoy every minute of it. I'm trying to resist the urge to click over and print the recipe right now. They sound fantastic.
    1. cookingasshole
no not true pound cake but there is a stick of butter and a cup of flour involved. Plus orange and lemon juice and zest.

I love citrus pound cake muffins!

Oh, I just bought a pint of blueberries and a pound of strawberries.

CA, tell me what to make with them.
    1. cookingasshole
I have not made one but a friend of mine made a "dessert pizza" that was slammin'

For the strawberries I got a tub of those bad boys so I have a bunch of strawberry recipes:
      cookingforassholes.blogspot.com/2009/04/strawberry-banana-muffins.html
      cookingforassholes.blogspot.com/2009/03/strawberry-rum-drink.html
      cookingforassholes.blogspot.com/2009/03/strawberry-reduction-sauce.html

      and my personal favorite:
      cookingforassholes.blogspot.com/2009/04/strawberry-lemon-pie.html
If you make this I would slice up the strawberries and layer on top rather than the way I did it.
    2. cookingasshole
as for the blueberries I would just eat them as is...or put them on top of stuff.
    3. dbowles1017
So... many... links... my... eyes... they...burn

I like the strawberry rum one. Pretty damn good.

The lemon pie looks good too.
    4. cookingasshole
I know right? I copied them all on my clipboard in case this gets deleted for obvious reasons!
    5. dbowles1017
I thought about reporting it. But decided you would enjoy that too much.
    6. Stillthinking
I am tempted to try the lemon strawberry one. Can I substitute a graham cracker crust? I know this is evil to suggest, but I would like to use a *gasp* store bought crust.
    7. cookingasshole
I am sure it would work out fine
  12. FreakSmack
I bet those flavors would be good morphed into pancake batter, topped with the blackberry compote blog.blogcatalog.com/ (just in case any of you missed it), with a side of sausage patties
    1. cookingasshole
      not a bad idea!

Cooking Asshole I was in Barnes & Noble and I saw a book that made me think of you - it was called "Bacon - A love Story"
    1. cookingasshole
I love bacon! What was it about? Bacon? and Love?
    2. DollinNYC
OK I said I thought of you and your blog- it didn't interest me enough to pick it up and actually LOOK at it! I was probably distracted by a book about cats.
