Have you ever had a close call with danger, harm or even death?

As far as I can remember, I have had a pretty hard life. But, I have missed the bullet on so many occasions, that I have to consider myself lucky.

Just last week I was baking some chicken nuggets in a pyrex baking dish. They I was too lazy to take out a frying pan and do a quick fry to them. So I added a little oil to the pyrex dish on top of the stove. I went out to the deck with the puppies for a moment to let the oil heat up and then BOOM! I run back to the kitchen I had a fire going and the shattered glass was all over like a fragmentation grenade. If I didn't go to the deck, that would have blown up in my face.

And that was just last week.

Have any of you had close calls?
What were they

Yup, almost drowned in a pool on vacation once when I was about seven. There was a lifeguard there who just stood there and didn't help.

My mother, who wasn't a very good swimmer, had to dive in to get me.

    I've had better vacations.

Drowning can be scary, I'm not good with the water element and had a few moments when I thought I could be. Mostly embarrass and looking silly. Though 1 time upstate NY in a lake, I had to be rescued. Good thing the lifeguard there was getting paid.

I can't believe the lifeguard just stood there, useless bastard.
At least the mother instincts took over and saved you.

Yes, it definitely shows the importance of taking a few swimming lessons, or at least wearing flotational devices when you're a kid.

I'm glad your lifeguard was on-the-ball!

Actually he was pissed off. He was waving me in and I kept going further out like a idiot. After he dragged me ashore I was only allowed in the shallow (knee deep) part, while my friends were diving off the raft in the middle of the lake. I was 18 at the time, I never would have worn a flotation device at that age.

But the pressures on the chest, and the difficulty to breathe was scary as hell.
