I'm curious as to the background/cross section of people we have contributing to BC on a fairly regular basis. I'd love to know if you have a degree (or several degrees), what they are in and if you are practicing in your field?
Call me curious - I know when people hear I'm an accountant, they are stymied because I've got such a "pick an adjective" personality as demonstrated in my posts LOL
I've got a B.A. in Business Economics, a Masters in Accounting and an MBA....

are y'all using your degrees for your current job/profession? for instance, my brother has a degree in psychology....and is running my family's truck driving school and testing sites. my older sister has a degree in restaurant/hotel management and is selling elevators and my little sister has a degree in sociology and is a school teacher (after moonlighting as a paralegal and analyst for awhile in manhattan). it always seems to be hit or miss if someone actually uses their degree(s) for the jobs/careers they have....

I was using mine until I got burned out and mad about an abuse that went on by a few other EMT's that could have laned us all in jail. I decided that is was not worth it. I maybe using my criminal justice soon or just opening a catering business

i feel ya on the burned out part - sometimes I wish I were just a librarian (me, a building full of books, match made in heaven!). I've purpusely NOT gotten a CPA because I don't want the personal liability that comes with it. it's bad enough I work in an information-sensitive position with a publicly-traded company - I don't need more culpability than I already have so I try to avoid any and all sticky situations!

I have a degree (BA) and two college diplomas (paralegal & library technician). I loved college and university too and I had great marks ie. honors. However, they did not prove to be particularly useful when it came to making a living.

Bachelors in English. Currently doing outreach work for a low-income weatherization program paid for by the Southern California Gas Company. Previously worked in office administration for a general construction company. I've utilized my acquired skills from my English degree in everything I've done since college.
Most people don't know what can be done with an English degree. The biggest assumption is that we can only write. The truth is, we specialize in research, communication, writing (technical and creative), problem/solution analysis, character analysis, situational analysis. The most common jobs for English majors include being lawyers, human resource specialists, educators, and working in advertisement and marketing. You will also find business executives who have English degrees.
I always joke that the ideal job for an English major would be being a spy for the CIA. Why? Because English majors can adapt to any situation. -
After 7 years, finally got a bachelors in PE after being kicked out of college for 2 years for being a bad boy. Went back twice: once to start a PhD program in European lit., again an MA in counseling and guidance-both times dropped out after the first semester. Mostly self-educated in literature, philosophy and psychology, although I did study at a private psychology school for over two years, doing hands on training with fellow psychologists and clients. My communications skills have definitely proved valuable in the meager amount of work I've done in my life.

Very impressive, everyone! I'm about a year or so from my Criminology and Psychology degrees. I also have a diploma in professional writing as well as in Criminology. I really would be a professional student if someone would let me.

I'm the exact same way - I'd love to go back to school, just can't think of what I'd like to major in! I've pretty much exhausted the business area. I earned my last degree online - absolutely loved the experience so I'd definitely want to go that route. If I'd want work to pay for it, though, it's got to be related to my field of study. hmmmm

BFA in drawing and painting. 2 and a half years in MFA program - finished courses, final art show, but walked away without writing thesis. By that time (I had also spent 3 years in other special art schools) I realized I had no interest in more academia - the only place where an MFA would be an asset. No specific goals in life. Wound up 18 years in journalism. Also did my share of mopping floors. A drifter basically. Seeing what happens next. Okay with it.

BA, MA, and PhD in History
I'm currently teaching history but am so poor that I might end up leaving the field. -
I have a Bachelor of Science with a specialization in Wildlife and Habitat Ecology. As well, I have an Envrionmental Certificate. Currently I am putting my schooling to good use as a Senior Habitat Biologist for the Canadian Government.
Pretty interesting to see what everyone's background is.
