Do you go often to concerts/gigs? Do you tend to be disappointed or impressed with the reality? Or are you someone who thinks a CD or DVD is more than enough?
I saw Pink recently in concert, and she was great. Have booked tickets to see Bon Jovi next spring and am really looking forward to that.
Next week am off to see Russell Brand, which is the first non-concert live show I will have been to. He's hilarious on TV - am expecting reality to be at least as good.
I don't think I have ever been let down so far at a gig. Am realising this is kind of my hobby!

ooooh and football matches. LOVE going over to Anfield to watch Liverpool play. Again, so much better in real life.

I love concerts. I've been to a few hundred. It's where all my "extra" money goes. I can't say I've ever been dissapointed in a show. There have been artists who do not interact with the crowd as much as others. But, that doesn't take away from their talent. I've seen county fair concerts with artists who have 1 hit, and I've seen arena tours like Tina, Elton, Bette, Streisand. They all give me a rush. I love it.

This is just cause for a discussion as to why the government has removed most of the artistic studies from the U.S. public schools.
You all see what concert performances do for you, and how much the artists reach their audiences. With music, art, drama, etc. removed from schools, the kids do not have the outlet to express themselves. This is why they act-out so unfavorably in public.
Bring art, drama and music back to the schools.
In reply to your question, I have been in many performances and concerts back in the day. CD's are intimate, play whenever you want, on-demand mini performances, but there is nothing quite like the being there, shoulder-to-shoulder seated audiences, seeing and hearing the actual instrument, the artist, giving you a part of themselves. Performing is a mini self-sacrifice of your emotions and life story that is shared with the world.
I have never much cared for crowds, but I do not mind calm gatherings to enjoy art in a refined manner. With crowds, I can never feel relaxed because one never knows what might occur.-
Interesting point about the school system. UK is similar in that the big push is towards English, Maths and Science and the kids who are considered to be doing well in their education are the ones who are doing well in those subjects. My best friend has a daughter who is incredibly talented and creative - good at drama and art in particular. But her teacher sees her as "struggling" because her English comprehension marks are middle of the road! The fact theat she seriously excels in other areas doens't seem to count.
And I have been at concerts with her too and she loves them!
