    Congrats for Rio!

Did you do a little happy dance when you found out?
    1. dbowles1017
Not really, but I really want to go there some day
    2. TJlubrano
      Just asking ^_^.

Good for them! I want to go to Rio! By 2016 I'll be old and decrepit.
    1. dbowles1017
Me too, but not for the Olympics
    2. TJlubrano
Aspot! You won't be old and decrepit!

I also want to go to Rio!

I have friends that have been to the Rio Carnival. They loved it. It's on my bucket list.
    1. TJlubrano
That is indeed one of the things I want to experience as well. Rio Carnival, dancing, sunny atmosphere ^_^
    2. dbowles1017
I want to go there and train on the beach. Then get drunk on the beach, maybe some sex on the beach

I was disappointed, but I'm happy Rio got it over Madrid.

    *sigh*

I was really disappointed that Chicago was eliminated first, rather than being one of the top two.

    What happened there?
    1. dbowles1017
      Rio>Madrid>Chicago>Tokyo
    2. Stillthinking
No, Chicago was eliminated first. I watched it live and heard the collective gasp across the city.

Tokyo was eliminated in the second round.

What was that sound? It's the sound of more jobs going down the drain...
    3. dbowles1017
Being eliminated first, 2nd or 3rd, does it really matter? End result is still not getting the bid.

That's the sound of life going as normal. What would have happened if Chicago wasn't even in consideration?
    4. Stillthinking
Chicago has been preparing for this bid for 4 years now. Of course, 4 years ago, we didn't have 11% unemployment and climbing.

A lot of people in the construction industry (thousands and thousands of architects, engineers, general contractors, construction workers, plumbers, electricians, hvac, carpenters) not mention vast numbers of service industry workers and retail workers were counting on the games to boost the economy.

The games would have meant 7 years of steady economic stimulous and a massive influx of international investment. You don't have to be directly involved with the games to benefit from the investment in the economy.

Jobs, jobs, jobs. Now, that the decisions been made, I have no reason to think that the situation here is going to improve.

Might as well move somewhere else.

Rio=awesome indeed! I'm looking forward to that opening ceremony more than the London one, jajajaja. I'm guessing a lot more color and fun!
    1. dbowles1017
Lots and lots of half naked women dancing on floats, I'm guessing
    2. cathy13
Rio should be fun. I think they will inject a lot of energy into the Opening Ceremonies (my favorite part)
    3. TJlubrano
Cathy! I'm happy to see you again here ^_^!
    4. cathy13
Thanks TJ. I am just checking in while coming up for air from all the moving.

I suppose Rio can do a much better job than my town, Chicago, anyway. Carnival looks way better than city street parades! LOL!

Wow Rio's bagged it, nice selection I should say, I have been following anxiously this particular news since morning. Obama personally dropping in at Copenhagen meeting to woo the IOC but I think Rio deserved it more. It will be fun in Rio.

Brazil is beautiful. Probably what happend in Chicago with that kid the other week had some play in it. It was shown all over TV. I was born in NYC and never seen nothing like that go on. How come Chicago can't control the problems?
    1. crawler
I saw a documentary about Chicago some ten years ago and I am still scared. Why is there so much problem ?
    2. Stillthinking
Chicago is very, very safe for 98% of the people who live and work here. It's a beautiful city with a gorgeous lakefront and a thriving downtown.

We do have our problems, but every city has their problems.

It's not like we're St. Louis or Detroit. Those are cities with PROBLEMS.
  9. mikeny07
I don't know why. I'm never going there until they fix the problem. NYC has a record low crime rate, and we have like 8 million people there of every race on the globe.
    1. crawler
I have heard a common friend getting killed there way back in 90's. Me too not going Chicago until they really fix things....
    2. Stillthinking
No, really, why do you think Chicago is so dangerous?

Tourists don't get kidnapped and held for ransom here like they do in Rio.

    Wohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Olympics in Rio de Janeiro! I am going!
    1. TJlubrano
      Haha! Lucky you!

Who isn't going to choose Pelé over Oprah and the President? If Chicago was serious about winning they should have sent Ditka. Ditka doesn't ask, Ditka gets!
  12. drjay1966
Let's just hope they do it up like Carnival...lotsa nudity...
  13. mikeny07
DrJay, Brazil also has the 2014 World Cup. They must be pretty happy.
I love Brazil because they are big soccer fans. Soccer is the best.

It was brazil? ahah, the need to be careful, security isn't the best...
  15. Merago
I suspect it's going to be a wild atmosphere...the usual Olympic village shenanigans and alleged bed-hoppin' will probably only be magnified in Brazil.
  16. FredSr2009
    Yes, I second that.
  17. Larissa31
Woo hoo Brazil! As a Brazilian, I am very proud.
  18. clioandme
    High time. Good for Brazil.
  19. polybore
    Brazilians all round to celebrate.
  20. siralmo
    Thats awesome :D
  21. Friday13
I'm glad they got it. They were great hosts for the Pan American games two years ago.
  22. tcinvestor
    Right on. Go Rio.
  23. flavorsofbrazil
Last year I moved from Canada (host of the 2010 Olympics) to Brazil (host in 2016). Somebody told me I should offer to move to any county that wants to bid for future games - I seem to have the magic touch.
  24. newblogmogul
From the looks of it if helicopters keep getting shot down Rio maybe destroyed before the torch gets there.
  25. drjalee52
Just because Chicago loves pizza, hot dogs and Da Bears and Cubs dose not mean that Brazil should win it because of their hot chic situation. I do wish them well. London has had 15 billion in over-runs. This Chicago dose not need.
  26. crazyTsu
Wonder where we would all be in 2016
    1. crazyTsu
      We can never say!
