I want to congratulate Team Sweden for their fine win over Team Greece in the opening round of Euro 2008. It was a fair played game and the Swedish side made the most of their opportunities. Good luck to both sides as the tourney continues!

Woops, should have mentioned it... Soccer (or Football).

      :-)

It's football! I refuse to call it soccer. We use our feet, ergo it's FOOTball.

Ah yes, we call it soccer. It's not terribly popular in Canada, but I know it is in other places.

I had bets on Greece ffs! This is the weirdest cup ever.
First England and Norway don't qualify, then Holland beats Italy, and now Sweden beats Greece 2-0 WTF! Stupid Zlatan. =(

I think this is the sign of the apocalypse. :O

That is the beauty of the game, it's democratic! Anything can happen, which is exactly what happened 4 years ago when Greece won! Keeps things exciting.

    wiki.answers.com/Q/How_did_the_word_soccer_come_about

English thought of the word Soccer. I see nothing wrong with the word. It actually sounds fit toward the game. What do you call the NFL then?
    1. greekgourmand
Well, here in North America the name 'football' applies to a modified form of rugby otherwise known as American Football. The Australians also have a sport called 'football' which is another modified form of rugby, so soccer is a term that is largely confined to the Anglo-American world, whereas the rest of the word refers to 'soccer' as 'football'.

"What do you call the NFL then?"
Europeans never discuss NFL or any other American sports league, so we don't need to call it anything.
We only discuss UEFA and FIFA.
But if we -had- to call it anything, we would say "En-eff-el" or "american-football league".

Greekgourmand: Thank you very much. Greece 0-2 Sweden.

It's a serious game for Sweden.
    1. greekgourmand
Kirewass: At this stage, every game is critical and both Sweden and Greece are good teams, so the victory was well deserved.

This is probably why i left Sweden..

I really couldn't care less. (which is a statement which would earn me a parking spot in the Stockholm Harbor wearing concrete slippers)
    1. greekgourmand
Well, you must care a little bit... after all, you did respond hee :-)

Magnifico, it all started with Ibrahimovic's goal, and imagine rumours are Mourinho doesn't want him at Inter next season. Jose wants to break all links to the Calciopoli scandal, and his trade from Juventus was one of the fallouts.
    1. greekgourmand
Frankly, I thought Ibrahimovic's goal was quite a good one, an excellent finish after a great pass.
