Which kid's shows do you think are the creepiest or weirdest?

I vote for tellitubbies for all out creepiest show for children. It's by far the weirdest creepiest thing I've ever seen. Floating baby heads and strange characters with TV's in their bellies....*shudder*

I think either the Wiggles or Barney comes in at a distant second. The Wiggles are just too...random. They constantly cut scenes and change the focus so much it disrupts the train of thought, and the kids on the Barney shows are so fake and try so hard to act like angelic little kids (when it's clear they are struggling to even act nice) that it has a big creep factor for me.

Plus you know, you always figure that the guy in the dinosaur costume has some issues...

But are there any floating baby heads? I mean, that's a requirement, for sure

Is it a very popular show over there?
    2. crpitt
Big floaty things in the woods, very weird.

Yeah its very popular over here now.
    3. Anok
Have the producers of children's shows gone back to drug abuse or what?
    4. MadMadMargo
And guess who's one to credit for the success of Teletubbies? None other than Simon Cowell.
    5. Anok
      No kidding, seriously?

      Oooohhhhhhh
    6. crpitt
      Yes he is Tinky Winky

I would have to agree that the tellytubbies is right up there on my list of shows to have my Godson avoid.

For my own sanity I try to avoid Thomas not because it's creepy but b/c it's just bland as all get out. It's about as exciting as watching cheap paint dry. At least with cheap paint the fumes might put you into a state of slight high. Thomas just drones on forever.
    1. Anok
LOL, yes, Thomas is boring as is Caillou. But I find that from a parent/child point of view shows with one clear (albeit boring) storyline is far better than the seizure inducing flashy shows.

Sometimes I wonder if kids shows that constantly change up the storyline (or that have none) and use bright colors, flashing, and quick change subliminal type imagery aren't part of the growing ADHD epidemic. I mean, the kids don't have enough time to focus on anything, how can they keep a train of thought?
    2. crpitt
I hate Thomas, always did, bleck.
    3. faithsju243
@Anok you raise a good point they have nano second programming why would we expect their little brains to focus any other way?

And even though Thomas bores me to tears I would put that on before Tellytubbies ugh!
  3. sensico
I have to second that, Thomas the Tank Engine is just a pointless show and it is a bit creepy. I would also add Mr. Rogers Neighborhood on the creepy list.
    1. Anok
Mr Rogers always reminded me of an insurance salesman
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Mr. Rogers was a really nice man. I actually LIVED in his neighborhood for a while (his apartment building was down the street from my college dorm). He helped a friend of mine with his busted bike chain one evening.

I can't make fun of Mr. Rogers.
    3. Anok
      OMG that is awesome!

I've seen interviews with him, and he did seem very smart, and very genuine, which reduces the creep factor by a lot.

but he still looks like an insurance salesman
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
Yes, I know the show wasn't exactly written on multiple levels of depth or anything. But he definitely was sincere.
    5. Anok
I grew up on it, so I can't really say anything bad about it
    6. faithsju243
@Sensico...awl Mr. Rodgers...I loved him. As a kid I thought he was the greatest with his little land of make believe.
  4. ThriftShopRomantic
Yes, the Teletubbies scared the Earl Grey outta me when I was in the UK and turned on the TV... More even than the Japanese karaoke game show I saw there where the guy was singing Willy Nelson tunes.

That sun baby head thing is evil-- evil, I say.
    1. Anok
Isn't it? I watched it once, thinking, Oh, babies love this show, let's see what it is...erm...

Needless to say I've never let Punky watch it
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Just as well. Punky might have had nightmares... I know I did.
    3. crpitt
A child I babysat for was obsessed with it, so I had to watch it for about 6 hours one time. The next time the dvd player 'broke'.
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
Six hours of Teletubbies-- good gad, it's enough to make a person lose their mind!

(hey, maybe that explains some things!)
    5. Anok
6 hours?! What was a kid doing watching 6 hours of TV anyway?
    6. crpitt
      @Thrift Hey! you bugger.

@Anok, the mother had a habit of dumping child in front of tv, it took some reprogramming to get her out of the habit.
    7. crpitt
Which made me a very expensive babysitter because children loved me for some reason.

Oh yeah because I actually did fun stuff with them
    8. Anok
Speaking of dumping your kid in front of a TV...I should go grab Punky LOL. I think we've had enough TV for today....

There is one called Boomba or something like that. These odd creatures wander around going "boomba . . . . booooooomba."
    1. Anok
Oh I think I've seen that one. There's some giant purple thing or something like that?

      What are people thinking?
    2. ArsenicCookies
That would be Boohbah's and it is indeed creepy. My husband and I compared it to an acid trip many a time www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQ-nif4rXGs fast forward it to 1:50 and you'll see why, then just keep watching, you'll feel dirty, confused, afraid and traumatized. I'll take the teletubies any day

OMG but this spoof is hilarious www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1dAzJKkk3E&feature=related you have to see it

Floating baby head............are you guys referring the happy baby sunshine?
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Creepy floating baby head, happy baby sunshine... potato, potahto.
    2. Anok
Yes, that's it...the creepy floating baby head.
  7. aningeniousname
There used to be a kids show on in the afternoons over here and it was about a bloke that lived in a canal boat with two puppets called Rosie and Jim and every week he would have two kids come onto his boat and he would entertain them with stories of Rosie and Jim.
I always found it quite disturbing because the guy looked like central castings idea of a paedophile and it was like watching "grooming" in action.
    1. Anok
Oh my god, sometimes you wonder - do they realize how creepy that is?
  8. ekim941
Forget the teletubbies, what about romper room? I remember as a kid that woman looked through her magic mirror and said, "I see Michael". I haven't had a tv in my bedroom since that day.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Oh gosh, yes, and that stupid, "Romper bomper stomper boo, tell me tell me tell me do.." thing she used to say. Even as a kid, I knew that was silly.
    2. Anok
And yet, they never saw me...(That's because I'm a ninja!)

I used to imitate that bit with a tennis racket.

And what about Captain Kangaroo? As kids, they weren't creepy at all. As adults.....well....
  9. ekim941
Today it's illegal to spy on people through the tv. Unless you are the Government.
    1. lulubelleb
      ...or Nielsen.

A number of years ago Nielsen (the TV ratings people) were trying to develop a passive meter to determine how many and which people were in the room when the tv is on. They were looking at heat signatures! Beyond the privacy issues, the technology couldn't distinguish a 90-pound dog sitting on the couch from a 90-pound teenager.

    The wiggles, barney and teletubbies.
  11. calais50
The creepiest kids show of all time was Pee Wee's Playhouse. If you go back and watch it today, you will notice the double entendres scattered all over the place on purpose.
  12. MyohMy
You haven't seen Yo Gabba Gabba...my vote for the creepiest!
  13. PastExpiry
hA ha HA... I just did some Teletubby cartoons... They're not as INNOCENT as they first appear!

    Meet the Press?
  15. jeremyjanson
I vote for Smoochy's Magical Jungle.
  16. scifigene
Teletubbies definitely out-weirded by In The Night Garden.
  17. kdawg68
-Bindi the Jungle Girl (creepy because her dead father makes regular appearances).

    - Jay Jay the Jet Plane (the faces....CREEPY)

    -anything with puppets.
  18. melindaville
I agree that the teletubbies are weird beyoung belief. I think they send subliminal messages to kids too--my little nephew used to be totally transfixed by them.
  19. Stillthinking
Creepiest kids shows are the ones directed at young girls that over sexualize girls bodies like Bratz.

These dolls and cartoons look like kiddie porn.
  20. yourfindit
Sesame Street was out there with the weird tv shows. Wasn't the cookie monster a junkie? I forget which one it was, but one of them was a bum.
  21. stellak
Mr. Rogers was awesome, but the puppets on his show where quite creepy!
