I have moved my blog from

techtheman.blogspot.com

to

www.techtheman.com

with a custom domain purchased from Blogspot for $10 annually. The hosting is still done in Blogspot.

With the new domain, all old blog posts and new blog posts seem to work without an issue. But I don't know if I need to apply a different site-id from google webmaster. So far, I don't see any crawler activity to my new domain. Any idea on how to set up correctly so as not to lose index in search engine. Do I need to find a different site-id for each engine and place in meta content in the header

I find that my custom domain has no automatic forwarding to my new domain. Maybe it takes longer for it to happen. When domain forwarding start to happen, the crawler will reach my new domain.

But the question still remain whether I need to get a site id with google webmaster or yahoo site explorer so that the crawler can identify the new domain. Your thoughts are very welcome.

You need to add your new domain to your account on GWT and verify that domain.

As it turns out, it takes 72 hours for the custom domain to take place where redirection happens from old to new address.

With the custom domain purchased through blogspot.com, there is no need to set up the CNAME record as it is done behind the scene for you.

It would have been a more pleasant experience if users are informed of the duration.

I am not sure but you need to submit your new domain name to google or search engines.
