Custom Header

I'd like to change my design to include a custom header which I just created.
I'm not sure if there's a way for me to just swap it in for the graphic that's on there now (i.e. take away the flowers and cows and balloons)...
Or, should I start with a new template which will let me put in my own header.
Help!

First, you need to make a back up copy of your template on your desktop. Make a copy of that, so you have two versions of the same template, one to play with and one to have JUST IN CASE.
On one version of the template, locate the header image (should be in images folder) and open it up using a graphics program like photoshop. Paste your new image directly on top of the old one, so that you know that it's the right size and that it looks the way you want it to. Save. DO NOT CHANGE THE FILE NAME OR FORMAT. Yes, you want to replace the existing file in it's current location.
Then, you need to remove your current template. Switch to a Blogger default template, temporarily. Delete the old template (with the old image) off your blog. Load the new version of your template. Unfortunately, you're going to lose your widgets and stuff. You're going to have to reload it.
If this doesn't work, then you're just going to have to switch your template to something else entirely because you don't have access to blogspot root directory. -
Yeah - I've been messing around with it and this template is just not being cooperative.
So it looks like a brand new template which is fine. Any recommendations for free templates online which allow for custom headers?-
Bloggerbuster.com has a huge selection of free templates. Take a look there.
