I'm sick of it. Negative news. It's not just the mass media - it's all of us!
Take responsibility. Read putting the "social" back into social media

I know exactly what ya mean...I have to turn the news off or I will literally get depressed. Just like hearing of somer being found dead....I almost feel guilty because her parents are NEVER gonna have peace again...and I sit here with both of my girls and could never FATHOM what they feel and wouldn't want to.

I feel it is necessary to know about all of these things, as it educates me to the dangers that are out there. I learn from these things and use that knowledge to do the best I can to protect my family from these risks and dangers. If I were to ignore these things, I put my family at risk by choosing ignorance rather then acknowledgment and then preparation.

Yea,but do u not ever feel a personal connection with these stories? I for some reason put myself in their shoes and ends up making me depressed

Of course I feel a personal connection, which is exactly why I feel that hey that could be my wife and/or kids. It is very real and personal. I need to know about these things so that I can make the right preparations to protect them. I have to be able to recognize the dangers. It is part of the father and husbands duty to protect his family, it only follows that he must know the risk to be able to effectively prepare for them.

It's about balance morgantj.
And this is about bloggers, tweeters and social media-ites taking some of the responsibility. It's not all about mass media.-
I understand. It pollutes our minds.
A lot of people report and share the problems of the world, but few offer solutions. Those that do offer solutions, it is usually a short term solution, and really doesn't fix the problem. I would like to see more collaboration on coming up with solutions to the worlds problems. However, you always have those that deny these problems, say they don't exist, or want to ignore them, this too doesn't help the cause, it only prolongs it and prolongs the attention that these things get that you feel is damaging.

for a split second it was almost like a description of my blog since I have covered each of those topics haha. I do agree that the negative news is draining, but I think its more the pitch than the actual news being reported that does it. For example, the Ft. Hood shootings, I just wrote a rant on how all of this coverage on the guy wouldh ave been better focused on the victims, their families and how we could help. I think people would feel less helpless and/or depressed about the news if they were give the chance to make a difference in the lives of those affected. People are going to get personally involved regardless, I think it's just a matter of wither feeling overwhelmed or feeling empowered... but thats just me

I literally hadn't read a newspaper in 30 years. During the Iraq war I got curious and started again but soon found it a complete waste of time. I think it's just a lot of fear-mongering. I don't notice my family or myself being in any more danger for not being informed of all these daily catastrophes.

But it takes some broadcasting for something to be heard. Also, before somebody can be inspired to help, they must know there is a problem that exist that is in need of some help. Do people need to be "inspired" and motivated to help or can't they just hear the negative news and naturally want to help?
