Oh, hey yeah I DO have a pet related question.

What can a renter do when owing a dog - to prevent the landlord from having any liability with regards to the dog's behavior?

Essentially, the law states that a landlord can be held financially liable for injuries etc to a third party under certain circumstances.

    ACK my post was eaten!

Anyway, can renter's insurance keep people from suing landlords over dog's bites and such? Are there waivers that can be filed?

Good question! btw .. what state are you in?

Read and commented - great post!

Polybore's cat is terrible at catching mice. It catches them in the garden then brings them into the house and lets them go, alive.

I want the cat to catch and kill mice in the house and garden. Not bring in mice from outside and release them in the house.
    1. PetLvr
Hmm.. well it seems your cat is GOOD at catching mice Sounds like a good question for the PetLvr Mailbag.

Is Declawing a cat a good idea. I have people giving both sides, and although I think it is sad, what are the alternatives to torn up furniture?
    1. PetLvr
That's a good topic ... we actually declawed our own cat and there were many arguments for/against.

      Here is your answer!

(although - you've already commented on the post Tony.. thanks :D)

I've got two.. why does my cat insist on tearing up every piece of paper lying around on the floor? He's 3, far from being a kitty. Also he is chunky. We got him that way, and have since only fed him what he needs, nothing more, yet he isn't losing weight. What can I do to help him lose weight? Hes a strictly indoor cat since he is declawed. So I wouldn't feel great about him being outside. Dang.. one more. What kind of cat would be best for him in our home? We're thinking a kitten will keep him running around and busy, perhaps shed some weight too.

Thanks for questions! Our cat is not skinny (sometimes a little overweight) and he still can move like lightning playing with our two dogs. Personally, I've seen young kittens play and keep the older cats healthy and active, and other times the older cats just get jealous and ignore them, and treat them like gnats

See that's what I was thinking! i had a little dog though, and they both got a long somewhat, but they always played and exercised with each other too. We can't decide whether to get a female or male too.

PS.. I won't be answering these questions .. our "PetLvr Fanatic" writer - Jelena - will be answering all of these "Dear PetLvr Mailbag" questions in upcoming and future posts ..

You can see read about her bio here: www.petlvr.com/blog/writers/jelena/

I've got one too.. (may as well post it here to get in the line-up)

When we got our 2nd Papillon dog, Sophie .. it was mid September as a puppy (she was born late July). We then had the coldest winter and earliest snowfall that year and she didn't get outside socializing much.

Now .. with her 'super-Krypto-like-hearing' .. whenever she hears other dogs with collars that jingle, she goes crazy and barks and barks and barks. If she's off the leash outside, she will run out 'close' to where the dog with noisy collar is and just bark. It's quite annoying, and not only because of the noise levels .. sometimes a bigger dog with the collar that jingles might not take a liking to that. I'd like to know how to get her 'cured' of this. Most other times she's the cutest thing since sliced bread of course.

You might want to address what it means when a dog won't eat, and at what point that requires medical attention. Apparently, it's a burning question, because I get about ten search hits a day to each of two different blogs on variations of this question (which my blogs do not answer).
    1. PetLvr
Thanks MadameX It's in the queue!

My cat is allergic to fleas, and she nearly went completely bald www.tabbysblog.com/2008/08/flea-allergy/ a few years ago when she could go outside each day. She is NOT going outside at all now and hasn't for years, but her stomach is starting to go totally bald again! Are there household items/allergens that do the same thing?

    Thanks!
