nothingprofound - I understand notingprofound, but remember as you speak God is listening and will continue to listen to every word and meaning you have for life as long as your given light to breath. The gates will open when the mis-understoods finally realize to understand God's purpose & real meaning.

Achempire. How can anyone even be sure that Heaven or Hell exists? Maybe we just die and go nowhere.
I don't agree with the premise of your question, so I can't give you a satisfactory answer. -

Hell isn't so bad. The theme park will be completed by October, we are upgrading our jet skis, remodelling some of the buildings. Hell just gets a bad name.

aspotofblog - Why would you say you're going to Hell? Have you done so much bad, you think God will not forgive you? If the
1. Serial killers
2. Rapists
3. Etc.
can be forgiven and allowed in the gates, then why can't you? God forgives those who forgive themselves from their vicious acts bestowed upon others to cause shame, harm, or etc.

When I die I'm going into a box that will be put in a hole in the ground. Nowhere else. I'm of the same opinion as Nothingprofound and Cookingasshole on this one. Heaven and hell do not exist after death. They are not places, but states of mind. I do not believe there is a God, so if he's listening or not makes no difference to me.
Besides, you said earlier that God forgives everyone, even serial killers and rapists. So what difference does it make if he's listening or not? If he really forgives everything, I could call him an asshole, and he would just go "Oh, it's ok, don't worry about it" anyway. -
Rainhat - I said God forgives those who forgive themselves. You are apparently not forgiving yourself from your opinion because you don't believe in God. Sometimes your punishment of wrong acts maybe in the form of a job loss, or etc. So God works in mysterious ways, never forget that if anything else.
-
Why would I need to forgive myself for doing something that I think there is nothing wrong with?
I'm unemployed at the moment because I had a limited time contract, and I haven't found a new job after that contract expired. So if God is "punishing" me by keeping me unemployed, he would have needed to create this global financial crisis to pull it off, putting the rest of mankind in distress just for my sake. That would *really* make him an asshole. -
Rainhat - Hi you mis-understood my point, & I'm very sorry for your job loss. I will pray for you. What I'm trying to say is nothing is wrong with your opinion but you said:
If he really forgives everything, I could call him an asshole
Joking about calling out God in that way is not healthy, and punishment could be in the eyes of a job loss, etc. Get my point?
You have good deeds & bad deeds. If I send you money to help you pay your bills because you lost your job, and you take the money and go party with it, God will take over the situation, because it was God who sent the one from beginning to help you understand? -
Joking about calling out God in that way is not healthy, and punishment could be in the eyes of a job loss, etc. Get my point?
The problem with this argument is that it assumes as a fact that God exists. Since I do not believe there is a god, I'm not even remotely worried about joking about god. If he doesn't exist, it can't be unhealthy to joke about him, and a creature that doesn't exist can't punish me either. See? Speeches about me being a sinner who's going to hell, etc. are completely pointless, since I don't believe there is a hell to go to, so why should I worry about it?
If I send you money to help you pay your bills because you lost your job, and you take the money and go party with it, God will take over the situation, because it was God who sent the one from beginning to help you understand?
Well, again, this assumes that god does in fact exist. But I'm curious: How would god "take over the situation"?
The reason I don't believe in god or take anything written in the bible as truth is the fact that both God and the bible are incredibly full of contradictions.
You said earlier that God forgives everyone who forgives himself. But Exodus 20:5 says "You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me"
Well, it can't be both.

I'm thinking I'm going with Bollocks. I think there's as much probability of beaming up to another planet as there is of being put on an escalator to heaven or hell. Actually probably a better chance to be one with the aliens.
I think our heaven and hell are here on Earth now based on our awareness of the blessings in our lives. I don't think there's a big old chalk board tallying up our actions to ensure us a spot on the rosters of heaven or hell later.
-
I'm going to hell because it seems like an interesting place. I'll probably interview all the rapists and so-called sinners and write a book about it.
-
Neither, and I don't care if "God is listening right now." I'm not a duplicitous coward. If there is a god, I'll tell him the same thing I tell everyone: Organized religion is a force of regression, pain, and suffering on earth and should be eradicated.
-
voodooKobra - I can't speak on your comment, because it involves too much wrong & shame in the wake of God. I pray God will re-guide you by his light & direct you as one of his children by his light as he has done the rest of us. God works in mysterious ways, you could suddenly have something occur to you in away you are confused, remember that.

OK, being an atheist I don't think either exist. BUT. I'm not a bad guy, a few blasphemers like sex before marriage, but who cares about that? So I reckon, if I'm wrong and all this stuff exists, then heaven - I'm banking on this possible God not being a ego-centric ass...:D

Pfff... This thread seems to be degrading into attention seeking and trolling again. We're being preached to by a person who doesn't seem to know the ten commandments, and who seems to be provoking responses by constantly "not getting it". Keep in mind that a thread that gets more than 200 posts increases the blogrank of the person who started it. It also makes the thread visible on the BC front page, giving the initiator loads of publicity. A bible thumper who doesn't know the decalogue? C'mon guys, she's doing it on purpose. I for one am ducking out of this thread now.
-
Rainhat - I could care less about my blog rank. I create threads from my mind & what I want to voice. First you say my men threads were provoking & causing debates. Now I'm doing death threads & you are saying the samething. Honestly I have my rights to say what I want. If you do not like what I say or talk about, then honestly comment else where. I would NEVER be-little others for my own personal gain.

Some Of US Are Going Six Feet Down, While Some Other Will Be Eventually Turning To Ash. All Rest- The Heaven & The Hell, Are Only Two More Of Those Grand Mom Tales. If You Want, Indulge In Them Whenever There Is Nothing To Cheer About!

I believe that there is something and here is why
1. My mother was dying of cancer she died and came back to tell a tale of a garden where she met a child. She begged to the child to give her two weeks where she was aware and able to handle her final wishes with her family. She got exactly two weeks, but during those 2 weeks she was afraid she wouldn't get back to the garden when she died. The child also told her she would come back in her next life as a boy that couldn't walk. Mom was very critical of people's appearance. So is this her lesson in her next life??
2. My late husband died of cancer. For a month he made an area in the house smell like his cologne. One time I ignored it and he changed the smell from cologne to burning wire. He was an electrician. As soon as I said I knew he was there it stopped. He hung around for about 2 months.
When I was in high school a friend of mine lost her mother. Her mother's favorite rocking chair rocked for about 6 months. I thought she was seeing things until it happened to me. -

The original question is interesting. But many of the answers are for a want of simple logic and sound reasoning. For example: Some have said, we just do not know if a person dies if something of them self continues on in existence or goes into a non-existent state. And then they say (since we are all going to die), eventually we will find out when we die. However, this statement is making an emphasis of implication based on faith that there is an afterlife. For if when a person dies he goes into an non-existent state, he would not have cognition or awareness of anything. So, you see, we are still left with the question because we may not ever find out, ever come to know if there is a afterlife, IF in fact we go to a non-existent state. The question cannot be answered by science (knowledge) for there is no physical evidence to derive a satisfactory answer or any answer for that matter. Those in science admit this.
The question can only be answered in the realm of faith. This does not mean blind faith or even a leap of faith, but genuine faith, belief, or trust based upon evidence from and in the realm of testimony. Even our law courts accept testimony as evidence to persuade jurors (judges) to arrive at a verdict of persuasion. Many of those in this discussion thread have no business voicing their opinion if it is based on science alone, only if they are willing to admit this is their faith. If they are willing to admit that, pray tell, what is your evidence that persuades you to believe that there is no heaven or hell? What strong weight of persuasive words do you lean on? Remember, the original question deals with a realm that is invisible. No one here has been able to show anything physical that there is or is not an afterlife.
Maybe we are looking at this the wrong way. Maybe the question can be answered by what would be most logical and reasonable. There is a book called the Bible that is full of testimony. It doesn’t appear that many people on this thread know anything about it because I have not seen its testimonies quoted. There may be some quotes, I just didn’t see any. Isaiah 1:18 says, “”Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord, . . .” NASB. Everyone here on this thread wants to reason with one another. How many want to reason with the Lord? Now time and space will not allow me to show why this book should be trusted. The only thing I can say is don’t knock something you have not read completely with understanding and without prejudice and bias. It has been proven by scientists, archeologists, linguists and others that the Bible is a collection of writings, written at different times (over a period of 1500 years), in different lands, and by different writers (about 30 or 40). And yet its claims of authorship are by a being called God, the One and only God, the Almighty. Now, you must treat the investigation of bible information on these terms and claims, otherwise, you may be found to be a dishonest person and prejudiced. In my investigation there is only one theme of the bible, that being Jesus Christ. There is no way that any one man or collection of men could have produced this book, unless they were somehow guided divinely. This is just what 2 Timothy 3:16-17 teaches. It is here in this book that speaks about heaven and hell. Other books may talk about it but never with the seriousness and soberness as the bible, but that is just my opinion. You see, I have investigated it without prejudice and bias and I have been persuaded that it is true. -
